Disastrous COVID Immune Escape Mutants (including E484K) | Global Watch | Dr. Sean Lin

The COVID-19 variant from UK (B.1.1.7 lineage) has drawn global attention. However, the variant fro South Africa (501Y.v2) was more disastrous, as it contains immune escape mutations that might make neutralizing antibodies ineffective. This variant has been identified in several countries already. And it will seriously challenge the efficacy of current vaccine products. In this episode, I will talk about recent studies (both in vitro and in vivo) related to escape mutants containing the E484K mutation that is in the Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) of the Spike protein.
