AI GeneratedThe Minnesota Wild have officially signed General Manager Bill Guerin to a multi-year contract extension. This move signals a \"win now\" mentality for the franchise, reinforcing the leadership stability between Guerin and head coach John Hynes as the team aims for deeper playoff runs and a potential Stanley Cup.
The Minnesota Wilds have made a huge new signing as they have officially extended Bill Guerin after multiple moves over the past couple of seasons, which has set this Minnesota Wild team in the right direction.

But I want to get straight into it, because obviously this was another move that was rumored to be made throughout this offseason, but now officially gets underway with the preseason.
Just about over with, with the shortened one this year and an 84-game regular season, Bill Guerin has been extended by Craig Leopold and this Wild team.
This certainly puts us in the right direction. I think it tells all of us Wild fans what the plan actually is, because there seems to be a lot of uncertainty.
Obviously, it is win now. That is the plan that this Wild team is going with. A win now year, that is it.
They traded for Quinn Hughes because of that, and there was a lot of indications that this team may have wanted to go in this direction, may have not, but right now with this extension, that's all confirmed.
You see this here, of course, from multiple sources at this point, but Emily Kaplan saying that they've signed him to a multi-year contract extension, and for the former GM of the year, he's very deserving of it.
I mean, no GM in the NHL is really going to go out and risk a lot to make a move for Quinn Hughes like Bill Guerin is, and I think that is a big reason as to, obviously, why this extension happened, plus so much more.
We're going to touch on those here in just a few minutes, but with his years with the Minnesota Wild, I think that it is probably in the entire history of the Wild, the best GM, president of hockey operations, that we have seen.
You see his accolades go up and up throughout the years, and now the most recent season with this Minnesota Wild team getting to the second round, the furthest we've gone in a long time.
That right there, I think, says everything you need to know about Bill Guerin as a GM from the Minnesota Wild standpoint, but also from an NHL standpoint.
He is one of the most respected GMs across the league because of how he conducts his business.
He's not scared to make a move. He's not scared to take risks, and that is really shown from his playoff history with this team.
Going back throughout the history of, I guess, the Minnesota Wild, we haven't seen this much consistency from them in a long, long time, and we have never been this close to a Stanley Cup in the franchise history.
You see this here from Geno Hart on the bottom. Since taking over in 2019, Guerin has led Minnesota's six playoff appearances, including the first series win in 11 years, and won 2026 NHL GM of the Year.
Like, throwing that into your accolade, you know, cupboard, or whatever you want to call it, that's a huge accomplishment, especially for a team that has been on the way up for a long time, not making the second round for 11 years.
These are all things that have led to, once again, Team USA's GM in the Olympics, the World Championship, the Four Nations, and among players as well, is why he is such a respected GM.
I mean, if we go ahead and look at what we've seen all summer long surrounding Dylan Larkin, there are so many reports saying that because of Bill Guerin, that's why Dylan Larkin has Minnesota on his list.
That's why Quinn Hughes feels like an extension is needed for him in Minnesota, because of how much he appreciates Bill Guerin for taking that risk on trading for him.
There was only a handful of teams that were really willing to do it, but the offer that Bill Guerin gave up was accepted immediately by the Canucks. There was no negotiation, it was just a yes.
You see this as well. Kind of talking about why this makes sense from Eric Stratton. Guerin's extension makes sense when you consider the multi-year extension from head coach John Hines last week.
A clear signal that the front office and coaching staff are aligned on the future with camp underway. The contract questions now turn squarely on Quinn Hughes.
I think a lot of people were wondering if that would have been the first domino to fall before Bill Guerin, I guess you could say the final domino to fall before Bill Guerin was extended.
But regardless of what happens in that situation, and although I still firmly think and stand on the fact that we're going to have Quinn Hughes here at least for three more seasons,
the team trusts Bill Guerin for whatever he's going to do with the Quinn Hughes situation, but also for the foreseeable future with this Minnesota Wild team.
With the way that John Hines and Bill Guerin have worked together, it was really something that we all expected, something that made sense for this team to do.
You know, they think the exact same way. That's a big thing that John Hines spoke about and Bill Guerin spoke about in the extension for Hines just last week.
And the fact that they think the same is obviously a huge reason as to why the Wilds have had the success they've had over the past 11 years, I guess we could say, even really without making another playoff series.
But the past couple of years have really stepped those up with these two together. John Hines said he was honored by the Minnesota Wild to trust in him, signing a multi-year extension,
and Bill Guerin, who has known Hines for 30 years, is a big believer, saying they think in similar ways and aren't afraid to challenge each other, which you need that in today's NHL.
You know, there's really not very many easy decisions, and when those easy decisions come, there's a lot of bumps along the way that are going to have to be worked out and ironed out, and these two trust each other.
That's the best thing. Iron sharpens iron, and that's why you're here in this case, that both of them are working together to ultimately make the best team possible, especially when you're looking at this Wild team right now.
I'm completely willing to say that this is the best lineup that we have seen in a long, long time, and you know, you see Mats Zagrelo here on this one, a little bit older of a depth chart here,
but with Maxim Chabonov, willing to take a risk on him that a lot of teams were also trying to get in, but knowing that that is something you have to do, knowing that a centerman is something that you're going to have to get,
those plans aren't out of the way yet. You want to make sure that you're going ahead and getting Quinn Hughes extended, then you have more business to tackle.
It just makes sense. It rounds out the Wilds even more than they already are, and I think even gives them a better chance of going another round, like we haven't seen in a few years at this point.
So, folks, give me your thoughts on this down below, the extension for Bill Guerin. Are you excited about this? Give me a why in the comments for yes and for no, and let me know if you think this may be a little bit too early,
and if Quinn Hughes should have been kind of the deal breaker on this. I'm still thinking it should have happened anyways, but I do want to touch on a few things before we do clue this video up over on the team side of things during this preseason.
It's going to be interesting to see what they look like, because Brodine in favor, modest version, but Ghosn and Brodine, no Quinn Hughes in the penalty kill, didn't think we would anyways.
Brodine getting two looks on that side, Eric Neck and Boldy, Nick Foligno, and Blake Coleman, Marcus Foligno, and Nico Sturm, Trenton McCarron, Yurov, in the next practice.
Those are going to be something to seriously keep an eye on, especially when you're looking at how this team is going to work off of last year, the ups and downs they've had in the power play penalty kill all season long.
Those are things that they're going to look at this year to try and make better, and you see this here as well from Michael Roof, so something I absolutely love to see.
The same thing happened with Daniil Yurov last year. Maxim Shabanov wanted to do the interview himself while Daniil Yurov was going to translate,
but I feel like you're going to see a very big connection between these two and Kirill Kaprizov to start the season.
So far, we've seen Maxim Shabanov play very, very good, some huge steps up from Daniil Yurov, and Kirill Kaprizov really locking things in, so give me your thoughts on that as well down below, folks.
But that is all I have here in this one. If you did enjoy, give it a like, hit the sub button as well, and give me your thoughts on all of the news down below, but that's all I got.
Thank you for watching. Hope you have a great day.
