Sharks head coach Ryan Worsofsky just made
his intentions clear about his little lineup shake last night
and speaks out about the loss against the Edmonton Oilers.
So in this video, we're going to break down everything
that Worsofsky had to say, Nurse had to say,
and what Worsofsky had to say about Dickinson's game lately as well.
So you're not going to miss this episode of Sharks Digest.
But before we dive into everything here, I just want to say around
the world for 4,000 subscribers here before the season starts.
So if you're new here, you want us to have a date
on the latest news around the San Jose Sharks,
we're home for it here on YouTube.
So down below, hit that subscribe button.
It's completely free to do so.
But yes, today we're back talking about
the San Jose Sharks after another loss.
Unfortunately, the San Jose Sharks lose
to the Edmonton Oilers at home yesterday.
And it was kind of, you know,
a game where I think we had a lot of effort.
I think we could have won this game if the puck bounces went our way.
And obviously, Mack and Celebrini comes back into this lineup.
We have Sherwood is an out of this game,
obviously, with his day-to-day.
We didn't know what was happening.
He does play in this game, and we have a full lineup,
and we do lose to McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.
But there are some things to take away from this,
and this is kind of what Worsofsky had to say about the criticism
of moving Igor Chernyshov down to the fourth line
in yesterday afternoon's matchup.
So let's just dive into everything here.
We'll talk about that.
We'll talk about what he had to say about Dickinson.
We'll talk about what we need to do going forward to win some games.
So, you're not going to miss this episode.
So, let's dive right into it here.
And let's just talk about, obviously, Worsofsky first.
As, obviously, Worsofsky explains Chernyshov's role.
And this is kind of what he had to say, which I found very interesting.
He said, we don't really number the lines as a coaching staff.
So, he doesn't really run the system as, like, line one, line two.
He kind of goes, like, a Mack line, you know,
a Wenberg line, a Misa line, and then a Stopchuk line.
And I think last night they've seen how, you know,
I'd like to see Chernyshov getting more minutes.
There's no doubt about it.
He's my favorite player on the team.
And I think he has a lot to give to this team this season
and a lot of offense to give to this team as well.
But I do think that this role was kind of just like,
okay, maybe this could work.
Maybe this could just give the shakeup we need to,
like, get this win, you know, against a tough team.
And you get Chernyshov down there with Goodrow and a Stopchuk.
and this is a line the fourth line like
in the games where we played really bad
look the best right they those are the lines
that you know they're down on the
forecheck they're getting the puck
out and when you have guys like a Stop
chuk and Goodrow they're great defensive players but they don't have
anybody to finish but when they win these forechecks and
they have a guy like Chernyshov on their line
they come down through the middle late
as they you know get a forecheck and
find him in the middle to score
a goal yeah i think the recipe for success is
there but i just don't think they're going to
get enough minutes a night to like make
this recipe work we might see it
like every now and then but I definitely think
Chernyshov works better on the line you know
either with a Wenberg or a Misa right like I definitely think
so so we'll have to see what
happens there going forward for Chernyshov
but you know obviously we kind of see his line results so
far this year when we see him on Misa Toffoli's line he's two goals
for one goal against and then
when he's off and any other five on five line he's two goals
for and then three goals against so
his best line is clearly with Misa Toffoli
and this was just something that I think Worszowski was
just testing last night to see if it would work
and you know I know I think it was all right but
it wasn't like something that jumped out
at me right like he had he has three points through
five games this year two goals
so he's having great production through the first five games
of the season so you know obviously he's dealing
with you know bumping up and down trying to build
chemistry with these different line mates I think just getting him
on one line and keeping him there
would be way better for Chernyshov at this point
because, obviously, he just wants to play.
He just wants to, you know, have a line,
build some chemistry with these guys,
and then just find out where he needs to be,
what situations, where he needs to be on the ice
to make himself effective,
and getting more ice time with a line
will help him get there.
But I definitely do like the test of this last night,
and we just kind of just take a look at Worszowski.
You know, what he's balancing,
offensive opportunities, defensive assignments,
opponent matchups, flexibility through the lineup.
Like, he's just trying to, you know, juggle all these things right now,
and he needs to just find a balance.
He just needs to say, okay, this is the baseline.
If the baseline is not performing, then we'll change it, right?
So, we just kind of need to see him.
Obviously, with Celebrini coming back
in the lineup was kind of a game-time thing,
so we kind of had to throw something
together, and, you know, it didn't work.
You know, we lost.
But, you know, I think what I've seen from Worszowski,
I'm not losing faith in him.
I really do like Ryan Worszowski as the head coach.
And obviously, you know, can his line spend more time attacking?
Like, that's what we kind of got to think about
when we're talking about Igor Chernyshov.
Do flexible assignments give him chances to create?
And watch his usage as the lineup gets healthy.
You know, we just need to see him in a situation where,
you know, if this line isn't helping him produce,
okay, that's not it.
You know, is this giving him more time
in the offensive zone where he can go to work
and be that big guy in front of the net?
Okay, that's the line we want him to be on, right?
Like, this is kind of what we're saying here,
just finding the right fit for Chernyshov right now
because I think we're just trying to find that fit for Toffoli
and Chernyshov at this point.
And, you know, once the lineup does get set,
we'll be fine going forward.
But this is what one commenter had to say on one of the videos.
I thought it was great from JJ Gunn.
He said, I love sticking Toff with Misa.
Forces Misa to elevate his game.
Perfect for a 19-year-old to learn.
Don't really understand the Toff hate at all.
The guy does score goals.
he's the perfect guy to help and lead
and chew up some minutes while the young stars get some rest
and I appreciate you JJ Gunn for leaving
the comments here on the video and I just wanted
to highlight it because I think
this is great obviously we're seeing Chernyshov move down which
you know I mean as a Chernyshov fan doesn't really like
but I get to get I really do get
the intention behind this by Worszowski
but also you see here you know you get a guy like Misa or
Toffoli who moves up with a young star like Misa
who we really do need to perform this season and
Toffoli's a guy who can score goals right like he
scored he's already scored a few goals this year
and uh you know when you have a guy like Misa
who's a great playmaker like that obviously Graf
on this line as well I think
these guys could really have some great success together and just
like J.J. Gunn says I don't get the hate he scores goals
and I agree with you J.J. so I appreciate
you commented that on the video
but the next section we're going to talk about here is Worszowski
praising Sam Dickinson you know uh we were kind
of waiting for him to get into this lineup this
year Nolan Allen kind of got the first couple of starts
and when he got in you know he didn't look
he looked all right in his first game
the second game he obviously gets a huge assist to Graf to
tie the game and last night Warren Worszowski said he thought he
was strong again really good so it
seems like going forward Sam Dickinson
and Truba is going to be the pairing which you know I'm all
for to be honest with you just looking
at the pairing yeah they might have four goals against
as a pairing which they need to tighten up
and they need to be better defensively uh but you
know that's just growing pains right these guys
are just trying to lock it in with each other
trying to uh you know find a balance to figure out how
to you know make a good line out of their
games because they're glaringly
and glaringly different Sandikin more offensive uh Trouba way more
defensive way more stay at home
so once they do get that chemistry and find out where they both
need to position themselves
to be a successful line I think it will happen like I said it's just
growing pains at this point Dickinson like I said he has one point
on the year so far he has two
blocks six hits and I've liked what I've seen
from him obviously when the puck's on his stick
I think he's making some great passes there hasn't really
been a game I've watched where I've been
like oh that was a bad Sandikin game I don't think
so I think there may have been some like
just some moments within these first couple
of games that I was like ah you know yeah maybe he
should have made a different decision
but he's still young he's still trying to figure it out
get more experience and playing
with an experienced guy like Trouba will help him get there for sure
and if we just take a look here you know
his progress behind the points his cleaner exits
under pressure winning loose pucks defending
without extended zone time you know Sandikin
just got to be able to whip a pass up to like a Celebrini
or a Marchman or a Stenberg or something
right and just find their stick to get out of the zone
and not just make these little flip outs
everybody change and then we're back
into our own zone right we just need to have some cleaner
breakouts and obviously a guy like Sam Dickinson
who has the passing ability he does will be able
to help us out with that for sure
and we just gotta reap the praise you know coach obviously
He praises his performance, but don't take that too much
and don't get an ego over it.
Just, you know, take it and just try to build off it
and try to be, you know, a better player the next game out.
And, you know, pairing totals cover multiple games
and early samples can change quickly, 100%.
Like I said, you know, right now,
four goals against on this pairing is not good,
but I definitely think that will go away
once these guys, you know, get more time together.
I think they definitely have a better opportunity.
Obviously, we got to see Macklin Celebrini return last night,
which was great.
He returns with a goal in this lineup.
coming back from injury looked fine
to me he looks very fast was looking uh like Macklin
Celebrini was making some great plays happening
he has six points now uh through I believe three
games because he missed two if I'm correct
or we might only yeah he missed two uh so one goal five
assists for him through three games six points we're taking
that from Macklin Celebrini all day
long 45% on a face-off dot he's having a great start
to the year it's great to see Mac back in
action back in form and you know not really wearing
that injury at all at least in my eyes
I thought he looked good last night.
And what Warren Borsowski had to say about the entire team last night,
he said, we got to win more pucks.
This is something he reiterated in the last game where we lost as well.
Just, we got to win those puck battles.
We can't just, you know, be in our defensive zone
and let them come up with the puck.
We need to win those battles, get the pucks out to the red line,
dump them in, change, or whatever we need to do, right?
Like, we've got to get rid of this dumb chase action for sure.
Like, now that we have Celebrini bringing back,
we can kind of start chopping them up
through a neutral zone and taking it in.
I really like the, like, going in just over the blue line,
you know kind of give and go that we've kind
of been doing I really like that so hopefully we can
see that going forward because it has been working for us
and right now we just need to build some
more pressure recover the pucks after
the first chance extended offensive zone possessions we
really need to start hemming our opponents in the zones
which I think we'll be able to do because
if we look sorry if we look at our next couple
of games we have the Bruins we got the Panthers
the Red Wings the Maple Leafs these are all games
that to me are winnable the Bruins are playing
very well but i definitely think these are games
that we can win i think obviously now we're you
know back on on the losing end of it
but uh we only won that big game in overtime we'd love to
see regulation win so why not against the boston bruins
that would be great to see that that's
coming up on tuesday i believe uh
so i'll be live for that one with you guys so make sure to
subscribe with the notifications to watch that watch along with me
and one more thing i did want
to talk about uh before we wrap up is darnell nurse facing
his former team and this is what he
had to say about playing his old team
in the Edmonton Oilers just kind of says you know that
part of my career is over I'm looking forward
to my time here in San Jose and really what he needs
to do going forward is just be Darnell Nurse get
the hits get the blocks and just you know be that
player that we all know he could be kind of step up
a little bit be a veteran right like we can't
you know we've seen games where he struggled you
know you know every player is going to struggle
at some point during the season so hopefully
that's behind him hopefully he can be more
disciplined and hopefully he can
be a more defensive player just like Jacob Trouba as well
I think these guys really need to step up,
get behind the young talent here,
and just say, hey, yeah, we're here to, you know,
have your back when you make a bad decision, right?
And these are the kind of players we need on this team,
and hopefully we can see that going forward
because obviously the veteran support is going to be huge here.
They've got to support the young core.
They've got to win the battles.
They've got to, you know, move the pucks.
They've got to give young players reliable outlets.
And when you're not doing that, we're going to lose games.
We're going to get hemmed in our zones,
and we've seen that in the games we've lost
and even the games where we've collapsed.
you know you know we need to see these defensemen win
the battles along the boards that's what we
paid them the big money to do so they need to go out there
and do that for us to win games so
hopefully we can see that going forward obviously
turn defensive stops in the offensive possessions
i feel like when we have done that you know
when we're helped when we have a you know not
hemmed in our zone shift we have been doing
that so we just need to stop getting hemmed in our zone
so much and obviously what do you think about Chia
in the shutdown role do you think they should
keep moving them matchup by matchup
do you think they should stick them to the line me i think we
should just stick them to the line
and let them build some chemistry with some guys but i can
really see him being a swiss army knife player here uh
for the San Jose Sharks so hopefully we
can see that going forward but what are you guys thoughts
on everything we talked about today do
you think Dickinson deserves the praise he's
been getting from Warsawski do you think Celebrini
has been playing a great season for us
do you think he should stick to a line let me know what
you guys think about Darren Nurse do you think
the veterans need to step up love to hear from
all you guys, down in the comments section
while you're down there, leave a like, subscribe to the channel
