This just revealed a lot about the Pistons...
Sep 10, 2026
As the Detroit Pistons continue to navigate their current situation with
All-Star and All-NBA big Jalen Dern still not signed, heading an inching closer to camp,
we get a report coming from Brian Windhorst revealing a key update coming out of the
Sacramento Kings organization and DeMantis Sabonis, as another report reveals a key
detail between the Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings. We're going to break down everything you
need to know on updates around Jalen Dern, an update coming out of Sacramento and so much more
in this episode and you're not going to want to miss it. So let's just dive straight into it today
where of course Brian Windhorst dropped a report on the Sacramento Kings saying the Kings are not
interested in extending DeMantis Sabonis' contract and he is a leading candidate for a trade
according to Windhorst. Now of course with DeMantis Sabonis, a name that pops up quite a bit
around the Pistons organization and was popping up quite a bit as free agency first opened when it
seemed like the Sacramento Kings and the Pistons were on both sides of two guys that were unhappy
in the organization and we've seen a lot of these reports be shut down as it seemed like Langdon was
not even open or willing to do a signing trade with another organization. Now of course with
reports coming out and even falling back to Jalen Dern and the reports coming out around him as well
as not only is this a big man that is miles apart when it comes to the current contract talks where
we of course have seen reports come out that the Pistons are standing strong at 35 million dollars
and Jalen Dern and his camp continue to express that they're not willing to go any lower than the
40 million they're asking and even going into Brett Siegel who put out another report that Jalen
Dern and his camp don't necessarily want to be in Detroit long term because they do not feel
valued. Now this report alone is pretty terrifying as a Pistons fan and of course might have changed
the mind on how Langdon views this situation but before we truly get into the reports coming out
from other insiders and of course another one from Brian Windhorst, I want to give a huge shout out
and say that this video is sponsored to you by Calshi. On Calshi you're trading directly against
other users, not the traditional sports book. You're buying yes or no contracts on the outcome
of events across sports, politics, or even the weather. For example you can go into Calshi and
there's so many great things that you can trade on. The first thing being of course Detroit
baseball when looking at this you can trade on Detroit winning the game $25 would net you $44.74
and again you're not trading against the traditional sports book so this continues to
fluctuate as time goes on. And of course our Detroit Pistons another great one to trade on
you can go more or less when it comes to total wins 45 plus wins if you trade more on this $25
get you $37.03 there's so many great things again you can go in with sports you can get the weather
politics anything over on Calshi the best thing with Calshi if you're interested in using it
use the link in the description trade $25 with code digest NBA on your screen right there and
get $25 added to your account instantly so if you're trading on of course Detroit baseball
you can go all the way in and use that $25 that goes into your account to trade on over 45 wins
go check Calshi out if you want using the link in the description and shout out to Calshi once
again for being a sponsor of this video but let's continue on now of course looking at Brian
Windhorst and the report that Sabonis is not looking to be extended or at least the Kings
are not looking to extend them this is where a second report came out from Brian Windhorst
speaking on Sabonis and his trade value around the league oh no I want to be clear there are
definitely teams that would take Sabonis it's just about whether the Kings would want then
there's a whole factor well you got two years left on your contract like do you want an extension now
so again looking at DeMontis Sabonis and exactly what his cap it is 45.4 million dollars 48.6 a
very luxurious deal when it comes to DeMontis Sabonis a very good center around the NBA of
course having flaws when it comes to complete protection of the rim but DeMontis Sabonis a
great passer and of course someone that has been linked to the Pistons quite a bit in the past
going into even more reports on the big this is a player that would be super interesting in Detroit
of course you lose a lot of that rim protection coming off an injury-plagued season 19 games played
putting up 16 points 11 and a half rebounds four assists a great passer when it comes to a big man
54 18.5 I wouldn't look at the three percent too much and one steal per game but again looking at
Sabonis over the years that he spent with the Sacramento Kings and Indiana Pacers there's a lot
to look at of course the three points percentage just last year or sorry the year before shooting
41.7 on nearly two and a half attempts the game we can see averaging around 37 38 over the past
couple of seasons but the big thing with Sabonis is the rebounding sitting at 11.4 and always being
an incredible rebounder 11.6 12.8 13 12 12 and a half nearly leading the league every single year
but the biggest issue with the Pistons is of course doing a sign and trade for DeMontis Sabonis
doesn't make a ton of sense if you're looking at of course keeping the cap close so you do not get
into the second apron and this is where a second report during the same broadcast with Brian
what the kings want is a sign and trade for Jalen Dern and to send Sabonis to Detroit but that is
not happening so of course with all the reports floating around on DeMontis Sabonis this feels
like it's been completely axed out from the Pistons side of this trade as not only has Langdon
made it clear that he doesn't want to go out and sign and trade Jalen Dern but it doesn't seem like
it makes any sense and again Sabonis someone that can add stretchability someone that's a good passer
an elite rebounder but it seems like with both sides coming out this is not going to end up
happening especially when you're looking at the cap of course Jalen Dern very young someone that
can blossom into a top five center in the NBA if he continues to build and of course the regular
season the playoffs need to get better but putting 45 more dollars against that first apron then
you're getting into a very hefty luxury tax then if you push yourself with the Sarah Thompson move
and you still want to add another ball handler adding 48 million dollars after this season for
DeMontis Sabonis adding 30 plus million for Sarah Thompson getting another guy you're going to be
stuck in that second apron and we can see what that does to teams I mean look at the Denver Nuggets
once again so if you want to commit to 40 million dollars you might as well just give that to Jalen
Dern at this point yes I understand those playoffs were terrible but teams schemed in a certain sense
this is a very young big man that's going to continue to progress and of course teams are
going to continuously be linked we've seen the report coming out interesting thing where Jalen
Dern now sits is there's suddenly a very obvious 2027 free agency bid the Clippers who are motivated
to overpay if they can't find a middle ground because of course they just got stripped of all
their caps half their front office just got suspended and again if there's teams and Jalen
Dern wants out like we've seen from reports coming from other people including Brett Siegel
that they don't necessarily want to be here long term then yes you need to explore some offers you
cannot let them take the qualifying offer lose them for nothing in next year's free agency but
I don't think Sabonis is the right one to pick up especially at that cap that you can go out
if you truly need to get another young center but moving on from Jalen Dern totally doesn't make
sense and again Brian Windhorst and multiple other people spoke on it and kind of shut that
down fully Benz what is your thoughts on all the rumors around this Detroit Pistons team how much
you think Jalen Dern truly gets what is your thoughts on this team heading into the next
season let me know your thoughts down in the comments I've been your host Marc by go check
out Kelsey if you want use the link in the description once again shoot huge shout out
do all the stuff they do go Detroit basketball and I'll see you in the next one
