Video Summary
AI GeneratedLogan Stankoven is emerging as a premier offensive threat for the Carolina Hurricanes. Following a strong finish to last season and a key role in their Stanley Cup victory, Stankoven has carried that momentum into the new season, highlighted by a career-first hat trick against Vancouver and reaching 100 career NHL points.
This is what Hurricanes fans are talking about
when we say we're the best.
The Hurricanes are getting hot and as their offense begins to cook,
one player jumped
back into the spotlight
and showed why last season was not a fluke and how scary this
lineup is becoming.
A performance like the Hurricanes forwards had last night is special
and this player
owns the hearts and minds of Caniacs everywhere welcome

when i'm coming at you reminder we're over

for more over there you'll be glad you did promise
you that Logan Stankoven is becoming a problem
for the rest of the National Hockey League and
If you think his three-goal performance
against Vancouver came out of nowhere,
you haven't been paying attention
because this didn't just start Thursday night.
It started last season.
Stankoven finished a regular season on an eight-game point streak,
carried all that momentum into the Stanley Cup playoffs,
and helped the Hurricanes win that cup.
And now, the man's just picking up where he left off.
a natural hat trick against Vancouver four goals to open the new season
and an offensive surge that
goes back months the scary part if Stank
is developing into a consistent more consistent
goal scorer the defending Stanley Cup champs are getting better
and better and that's great news
for all of us but for the rest
of the National Hockey League well dry your eyes because it's
pretty much done this dude continues
to get hot before we get into Thursday night's hat trick I
want to go back to last season
because there's a much bigger story here Logan Stankoven didn't
suddenly discover how to score goals
in that game against Vancouver he was already becoming one of
the Canes most dangerous offensive players during
the stretch run last year look at the numbers
Stankoven finished 25-26 regular season
on an eight game point streak eight games during those
eight games seven goals four assists 11 points
that's an incredible way to finish the regular
season but what impressed everyone even more was what happened
when the playoffs started
because there are players who can score in March
and April and then there are players who can
produce when the games becomes tighter more physical
and every single mistake can cost you
a playoff series Stankoven showed
that his game could translate into postseason hockey
during the early portion
of the Carolina championship run he extended that scoring
streak to 11 games across the regular season
and playoffs 15 points over that stretch 10 goals
and he wasn't just scoring meaningless goals he
delivered important goals in important situations
and that's when i started we all started looking
at Stank a little differently uh because this
wasn't just a young player having a good couple
of weeks this was a player beginning to establish
himself as a legitimate offensive weapon
and now we're seeing that momentum carry into the regular
season um here's why i think last year's playoff run
was so so important for Stankov it his
confidence and not just confidence
in his shot confidence in knowing that he belongs in the
biggest moments think about what Carolina accomplished we won
the Stanley Cup and Stank
was part of that championship run he experienced
the intensity of playoff hockey he played against
teams specifically trying to shut
the Canes down he learned what it takes to produce when the
pressure is at its highest
and when you look at the way he finished last season you have to wonder
whether we're watching a player
who has taken that next step in his development remember the
chemistry he developed with Hall
and Blake that line became a major part of Carolina's postseason
success Stankoven provided
the finished ability Hall brought experience playmaking offensive
creativity Blake brought speed energy
and the ability ability to create opportunities together
they gave the Canes something every championship contender needs
a scoring line that opponents
cannot afford to overlook
because here's the problem for opposing coaches you already have
to worry about Sebastian Aho you already have
to worry about Andrei Svechnikov and now you have to
worry about Logan Stankoven
and Stankoven is developing into another higher level of legitimate
scoring threat for a very powerful Canes forward core good luck trying
to match up against all of
them and just you wait till Jarvis comes back uh fast forward
to thursday night carolina absolutely
dismantled vancouver seven to two sorry pie Stankoven delivers
the first hat trick of his NHL
career think about that what makes this performance
so impressive isn't simply that he scored three
goals it's how he scored them first
was shorthanded Sean Walker creates the opportunity Stankoven
attacks the net finishes the play
then late in the second Carolina gets another power play
opportunity Hall delivers a beautiful no look backhanded pass
and Stankoven buries it because
that's what they do that's what they do that's two
that's two if you're counting if you're keeping
score here then the third period Stankoven finds himself
in a dangerous scoring area between the
circles he gets the opportunity he shoots there it
is hat trick his first ever hat trick of his
NHL career and he was wearing red not in Dallas
in Carolina baby hanging out in Raleigh scoring
a hat trick amazing it was also his 100th career NHL point
that's a big night for him for anybody
for any hockey player got to 100 first career hat trick
and he's a hurricane this dude's a
hurricane for life and a performance that puts him
into some pretty exclusive company Stan Coven
becomes the fourth player in franchise history
to score at even strength on the power play and
shorthanded in one game that puts him in the category
of Sandis Ozilich Eric Cole Sebastian Alho
and now you got Logan Stankov
and hanging out there that's a pretty impressive list
you gotta admit it
but here's the biggest takeaway this isn't just a demonstration of
scoring ability it was a demonstration
of versatility he can score five on five he can
contribute on the power play he can make you pay
and cry while he's killing a penalty and that
makes him extremely difficult to defend extremely difficult
to defend now i want to give you one
stat that i think i think really puts
this entire conversation into perspective according to the
nhl back to march 31st of last season including
the stanley cup playoffs logan stancoven has
scored 22 goals in 32 games 22 goals 32 games
that's nearly seven goals every 10 games let's
just be clear here that includes playoffs
and it's a selected stretch of his career i'm not going to
tell you he's automatically going to maintain
that scoring rate for the entire you know however
many games, well they have game five
so we'll say 79 more games, maybe my math's wrong i don't know
let me know um but what i am going to tell you
is that this is no longer just about one hot night
We're talking about a player
who found his scoring touch late last season, continued
producing during a championship run,
and now has opened the new season with four goals
in four games, five games.
And he's doing it in different ways.
He's finding open ice.
He's getting himself into dangerous scoring positions.
He's real good down front.
He's sneaky and small.
He gets in there.
What does Mike scream talk to me, Shorty?
He gets in there.
He's using speed.
and most importantly he's finishing
his opportunities that's the difference between
a player who creates chances
and a player becomes a consistent NHL goal scorer and right now Stan
Koven shows signs of becoming both of those without
a doubt both of them now here's something
that caught my attention after the game
when Stan Koven was asked about his success he talked about
confidence preparation and the contributions
of his line mates it feels awesome just preparation
and work that i've done over the summer shows each year i try
and come back and be a little
bit better version of myself that's important
because confidence is huge part of scoring in
the NHL when a player
is struggling sometimes they start thinking too much they hesitate they
pass up shots uh try to make you know a perfect play
but when a player gets hot everything starts
happening naturally they trust
their instincts they shoot without hesitation they anticipate
where the puck is going
and that's what Stan Koven looks like right now he's playing with
the confidence of someone who knows he can score
against NHL competition and after he accomplishes
what he did last season he's already proven he can produce
in the Stanley Cup playoffs
the dude's a tank all right he's already proven he can contribute
to a championship team and now
he's showing that he wants an even bigger role
on this team that's the kind of development that
Canes should be extremely excited over now here's the bigger picture
when things become interesting
The Carolina Hurricanes just won the Stanley Cup.
And what does every defending champion want?
They want to be better.
Stan Stankoven is still developing.
And if he continues turning into a reliable goal scorer,
the Hurricanes don't have to depend entirely
on their established stars to get goals.
Now let's just take a look at this from
the perspective of the rest of the NHL.
Then I'll let you go for the day.
How exactly do you defend the Hurricanes
if Logan Stankoven gets even hotter?
You focus your top defender on Sebastian Aho, fine.
Now you've got to deal with Svechnikov.
You focus on Svechnikov.
Okay, now Stankoven and Taylor Hall and Jackson Blake
are getting more favorable matchups.
And eventually, Seth Jarvis is coming back.
Now what?
That's a problem.
That's a legit problem for the rest of the league.
You know, because a hot Logan Stankoven,
because it makes the Hurricanes a lot deeper,
it makes them more dangerous
and it gives opposing teams one more
player they have to find a way to stop
and they try to focus on him
Hall and Blake are there man
that's great news for us
Canes and potentially
terrible news for the rest
of the league reminder we're
over on our socials we're on

Logan Stankoven is the man
Jarvis is coming back
good luck NHL and if they do get Connor Hellebuyck good luck NHL
if anything else comes down I'll be
the first to let you know until
then for Hurricanes Digest I'm Jeff Tastanero let's go Canes
