Right so we've just arrived in the Lake District and today we're going to be
trying to do two wainwrights in one day and we're going to be going up to
Stillnots and also Hallin Fell so it's only just starting to get light outside
and we are starting to see that there is a lot of snow on top of the fells.
Okay well that was possibly one of the scariest things that's ever happened
coming up this hill and the vans just completely sliding skidding on the ice
so we've just had to pull the van over safely get the kids their boots on and
we're gonna have to walk the kids down. Rick's just gritting at the moment so
we were basically just sliding backwards in the van and Richard had to just ease
us onto a patch where there was no ice. I just sat in the van with my hands over
my mouth the whole time because I didn't want to say anything and I was a little
bit terrified to be honest. There we go so we're now walking up the little hill
side and Richard's heading back to the van to try and get it up the last little
bit. Well after this morning's ordeal we have arrived just up in the car park
here at St. Peter's Church Martindale got Hallin Fell just up there and the
beautiful St. Peter's Church behind us here so you might have seen we got stuck
a little bit on the way. Last night it dropped to minus one, a little bit of
rain yesterday. On the way up I was assessing the roads seemed fine but if
you've ever been here there's a series of hairpin bends just at the end just
before Hallin Fell or just before you get to the parking here at the church
and the last hairpin I got stuck. Hit the ice, slid, wheel spun, got stuck, parked up
it's taken best part of an hour to grit the roads by hand and then get up here
luckily there was a good a good local Samaritan that has helped us out that
helped me up there as well which was good but safe and sound, kettles on, happy
days. Kira got a bit worried, I was a little bit worried at one point but we're here, time for tea.
Okay so we're finally out for our first walk we're actually going to be doing
steel knots first that one's up there so we'll give it a go. So there's two
ways, you go around this way, nice gentle walk up to the top, you can then come
down this zigzag which is obviously steep, or you can continue on that ridge, there's two people up there, you continue on that ridge down and then just walk back up to the car park, they're not
steep so I think let's let's just go around the way we should be going.
There we go. Not far off the top now, I've had to borrow Jack's hat so he's got my gloves on
because he's got them absolutely soaked and I've got his spare hat because I can't find mine.
Looking good babe. I know, looking good, it fits me.
Adventure Jack, Adventure Jack, he does whatever an Adventure Jack does. Ready, one, two, three, fire!
It's Adventure Piper, Adventure Piper, she does whatever an Adventure Piper does.
All I know is I need to be somewhere else to set me free, I don't know what to do now, need to figure it out but I don't know how, I hope the wind...
I think we're nearly at the top guys. I don't know, I think this is the biggest one they've done.
Okay we are at the very top guys, yay!
Yay, well done guys.
So we're now just making our way back down to the car park where we parked the van for some lunch.
So that's those guys there just off. Back to the van which is just over that bit there and I'll just show you guys what we just came down.
You might just be able to see the route, the sun's just coming out as well but we've just climbed down from the very top up there.
Looking back up now at that mountain in this snow makes me feel like we're a little bit crazy but it was pretty good.
I'm really impressed with the kids, they did really good using their feet in the right places to scramble down, well not scramble but walk down carefully.
So yeah really really impressed, they did amazing.
So we're now back in the van, we've decided that we are going to call that a day after doing Still Not because it's been quite the adventure today
and we don't think we're quite feeling up to doing another Wainwright.
So we'll leave Hallenfeld for another day.
So Still Not, we managed it, definitely a good challenge.
I think the kids felt the challenge, Piper got a little bit scared at some points but she did really really well so we're really really proud.
Yeah that was our first Wainwright of this year, we have got 11 more Wainwrights to do as part of our little family challenge
so there'll be plenty more videos like this with different Wainwrights throughout the year.
Thank you for watching and don't forget to click subscribe.
Bye.
