AI GeneratedThe Detroit Red Wings are navigating a period of instability marked by contract disputes and ownership criticism. While Dylan Larkin's leadership on the ice has helped improve fan sentiment, the organization faces a standoff with Simon Edvinson and is weighing potential free-agent acquisitions to bolster the roster.
Some big moves are coming for the Detroit Red Wings as multiple insiders and new reports have linked
them to some shocking free agent candidates which is really shocking because they have some big
orders of business to get done with some of their own players with one of their top defensemen still
remaining unsigned and their former captain still wanting out of the organization and the city.
They have a lot to still get done plus we're going to break down some mixed feelings from
the fan base as boos turned to cheers for Dylan Larkin in his season debut. He took on a bit of
a leadership role as well in the game. Very mixed feelings from the fan base. We're going to break
that all down and much more in this episode of Red Wings Digest. But guys before we jump into
all of that a quick reminder to hit that subscribe button. A large percentage of you guys who watch
these videos every single day are not yet subscribed to the channel so if you don't
want to miss out on anything that's happening with the Red Wings we're giving you guys daily
updates here on the team, trade rumors, what's happening with Simon Edvinson, ownership, all of
that stuff here on the channel so make sure you are subscribed as we head into the rest of this
season. Now there's a lot to talk about today. We have some new reports revealing that the Red Wings
for some reason are now in talks with Patrick Laine, his camp, and a familiar face in David
Perron as well. So these talks are continuing to heat up. We kind of talked about it in the summer
too and what a trade could look like but you can see this from Pierre Lebrun and again let me
outline this first. This is ridiculous right before we get into the report and what this means and the
type of players they might be signing. Sign Simon Edvinson. Why are you talking to Patrick Laine
and David Perron? You have good young players in this organization that you can call up if you need
from the Grand Rapids Griffins. Stop talking to these guys. Sign your guys. Why are you talking
to Patrick Laine and David Perron? Anyway, I digress. The Detroit Red Wings are another team
that had talks with Laine and his camp but the Red Wings, in case you haven't heard, have a lot
going on these days. By the way, we're going to do another video, a full video on this because
the truth is starting to slowly be revealed here. All of this is falling on Chris Illich.
You guys know that, right? Chris Illich is responsible for all of this and that kind of
plays into the reaction, I think, for Dylan Larkin last night. We'll get to that in a little bit too.
Now, Patrick Laine is a guy that barely played last season. He had one point, played five games,
hit six shots on goal at the Montreal Canadiens. He can be signed to a bonus-filled contract this
year because he spent so much time on the IR last season. If he does hit those bonuses,
it does go against your cap for the next season, so keep that in mind.
I think at this point, with what we've seen from some of the younger guys,
Laine might be more of a sure thing on the power play for some teams. Not for this team. You got
Alex DeBrinckit in that spot. This doesn't make sense to me, especially already being a couple
games into the season. This is not a priority at all. At all! This is not a priority. I mean,
this is actually ridiculous. Now, if you were to sign him to league minimum, this is kind of what
you're looking at in terms of the cap. The cap, $104 million. This is kind of what you're looking
at in terms of the cap after signing Simon Edvinson. Now, the report is, and I have in here,
$8.5 million. That's where the Red Wings are right now. So, just for hypothetical sake,
if they were to add him for $8.5 million, maybe at $95 million, they still have roughly $9 million
in cap space. So, there's a lot you can do with that. And then at some point, I would imagine
Dylan Larkin is going to get traded this season. So, this doesn't make any sense to me. And
speaking of not making any sense, David Perron is now being linked to the Detroit Red Wings,
who did end up on the Detroit Red Wings last season as well. So, Perron, by the way, both
these reports coming from Pierre Lebrun today, who is skating back home in Sherbrooke, Quebec,
staying in shape, had 13 goals in 65 games, split between the Senators and the Red Wings last year.
I wouldn't rule out the Red Wings as a potential reunion fit, but again, Detroit has a few things
going on right now. And I love the fact that Pierre has finished both those tweets with that.
So, again, linking, it's interesting, right? He said, I wouldn't rule out the Red Wings.
He didn't name any other team. So, it's interesting. This could be Perron's agent.
This could be his camp kind of putting this out there. Hey, don't forget about me kind of thing.
There is, you know, there definitely could be something to that. Perron, you know, had a decent
season, I guess, last year and offered, you know, leadership to the team. I think that it could be,
you know, again, like league minimum or something like fine. Lionate, to me,
doesn't make sense for this team. I don't think it does because he's a power play specialist and
you have a power play specialist in Alex Tabrenka. It doesn't make sense for me on this team at this
point in the season. Perron, interesting, he can play lower in your lineup. Leadership,
he's won a Stanley Cup. You know, he brings different intangibles to the table. I could
see it, but it depends what a contract looks like. And again, you have business you have to attend to
right now. Why are we talking about David Perron? What are we talking about? But again, he brings
different intangibles to the table, right? Familiar with the team, the area. There's a lot of young
kids in the org and on the team now that could learn from a guy like this. And he can offer
power play help and depth scoring as well. So this one makes a little bit more sense to me,
but again, it would have to be on a lower cap hit because I don't know if I play him.
Again, he can help some of the kids, but I don't know if I would play him over some of the kids
that are slated to, you know, continue to play on this team and would be the first call ups from the
Grand Rapids Griffins, right? So that to me is very interesting. We're going to do a whole video
on Simon Edmondson, by the way, but I do want to give you guys a taste of what's kind of going on
right now in terms of the contract standoff. This is where we are right now in terms of the
current contract status. So he left North America. He's in Sweden training. They are
so far apart on a contract that he actually feels insulted. So Elliott Freeman reported the other
day that his preference at this point is actually to be traded. He's over this and he feels like
he's been disrespected by the process and the organization because it was so easy to get this
done and they waited, waited, waited. He bought insurance. He went to camp, all of this stuff
out of his own pocket. We assume out of his own pocket and then most likely out of his own pocket
and then he just feels probably disrespected, right? And Detroit's, you know, priority that
they've stated is they still want to sign him. They don't want to trade him, but the player
would rather be traded at this point. The longer term offer, you know, they're talking about longer
term offers from the player's point of view, but the team wants a bridge contract. They're obsessed
with a bridge contract. They want a shorter term deal on less money. It's insane. I don't get it.
By the way. One thing to keep in mind now, as we head into the late stages of October,
November, the longer he stays unsigned, the longer he's in Sweden, there is an RFA
deadline to get signed. Otherwise you'll lose the season. And that is December 1st
at 5 PM. And we've seen that happen before. So, um, they got to get this done pretty soon. Get
him in, get him in, get him playing, right? Like at the end of the day or trade him. And I think
the end of the day, and I've said this in previous videos, this ends in him being traded. I hate to
say it, but this ends in him being traded because the team is so stingy. And I want to get to
ownership and a bit of that in a second too, but Chris Illich is running this team into the ground.
Now I want to talk about Chris Illich and how this plays into Dylan Larkin and what happened last
night. All right. Dylan Larkin makes a season debut, puts up two points, scores a goal early
in the game to put them up in the game. Very quickly, the overwhelming boost for this player
turned into cheers, which I'm not blaming anyone. Red Wings fans want to see wins. If you're at the
game, you bought tickets, which by the way, how many people were at that game last night? 5,000
maybe? Anyway, you bought your tickets. You want to see your team win, right? I get it. I'm not
blaming anyone, right? You're happy. You leave happy because they won the game, right? That's
a thing since the start of time, but they pick up a big win and he was a huge factor in this game.
One goal, one assist. He had four shots on goal. He played 20 minutes. Debrinkia was a big factor
in this game as well. And of course, Lucas Raymond, but he was a huge factor because he was
also standing up for his teammates. He got into scrums. He played a bit of that leadership role
and Dylan Cousins mocking him with the C on his chest and stuff like that by the bench.
He took a lot of that look personally and wanted to do something about that. And he got into scrums
and all that type of stuff. So he truly made a difference in this game and he put them ahead
early with his goal. Fans were cheering for the goal, of course. Again, I'm not blaming anyone.
The booze kind of turned to cheers because the team scores a goal, right? And kids don't know
about what's going on, right? And the kids are cheering and all that type of stuff. Anyway,
he also helped create Arvidsson's power play goal. Arvidsson, by the way, it was acquired
because he's a good five on five player and they were horrible five on five before and he's scoring
on the power play. It's pretty funny. But again, it was an interesting dynamic and a lot of fans
are kind of split on it, but it was a good performance from Dylan Larkin. And I'll give
credit where credit's due. They are a better team with him in the lineup. We did mention
this in the summer. You probably had to take the C away from him. But I think the reason
things are turning a little bit is because as the days go on, as Simon Evanson is unsigned,
like the longer he goes unsigned and Dylan Larkin is actually back in the lineup now,
and some of the new reports that are coming out that we're going to cover in another video as
well. This is obviously, obviously Chris Illich's fault, right? So pressure is coming off of the
player, I think a little bit where you go. I can kind of see where he's coming from,
where he wants to be moved because ownership's not giving this team the best chance possible
to succeed. And I want to succeed, right? So there's a little bit of that, I think,
turning in the fan base a little bit, just a little bit of it, right? So it's interesting.
Let me know how you feel in the comments below, because we were pretty hard on Dylan Larkin all
summer. Because again, I don't know if he went about it the right way, right? I can understand
now where he's coming from because it's pretty obvious Chris Illich is pulling all the strings
and he's not even allowing Sean Horkoff to do his job, right? And the whole thing with the
LinkedIn post just so tone deaf and all that garbage, right? It's bad. It's bad. So let me
know in the comments how you feel about Dylan Larkin, about that performance. And the weirdest
thing for me is he started a unifying moment for this team last night, right? There was the hit on
and he didn't like it. And he went after his guy and he started the scrum and that that's the type
of stuff that you want to see from a team, especially a team that's been labeled lifeless,
soulless, right? So it's interesting. He's going to continue to fight for his teammates, right?
He wants to make it known. And again, I respect this type of stuff. He's made it known. I'm not
going to turn my back on you completely, right? I'm still here. I'm playing games. And until I get
traded, we're going to, we're going to fight. We're going to play for each other. They're not
the most talented team, but far from it. But they pick up a win last night. And I think it just has
a lot of fans conflicted. But at the end of the day, if it's true, the last couple of things I'll
say here is if it's true that Dylan Larkin did want to be in front of the fan base when they
booed him the other night at the home opener with the healthy scratches and said he didn't want to
take a moment away from the healthy scratches. If that's true, like I said at the time, I respect
that, right? I respect the fact that he's suiting up for the team, right? Because we were all,
oh, he's injured and stuff like that, right? Of course, because there's a lot of weird stuff
going on. But I respect the fact that he's got back in the lineup. I respect the fact that,
you know, he went after his man for hitting Alex Dabrinka, right? And started a bit of a scrum and,
you know, didn't say we're going to roll over and die basically, right?
I respect that type of stuff. So it's interesting. The boos turned to cheers,
but still there's a weird vibe around this team. And I don't think anyone expects them to do
anything significant this season, but I think it all falls back on, again, we'll have another video
on this. It all falls back on Chris Illich. But guys, let me know in the comments how you feel
about them potentially going after Patrick Laine and David Perron and everything that's
happened with Dylan Larkin over the last 24 hours.
