Red Wings training camp took some WILD turns today... | Red Wings News
Sep 24, 2026
Red Wings training camp just took yet another wild turn today as we get multiple new updates
on Dylan Larkin and his status heading into this new season. Sean Horkoff continues to make some
more roster moves as some players have been placed on waivers and sent down to Grand Rapids and we
have some new lineup decisions from Todd McClellan and updates from the head coach himself just days
away of the regular season kicking off. We're going to break down all of these new updates
from training camp what's happening with Dylan Larkin and much more in this episode of Red Wings
Digest but first thing is first thank you so much for allowing us to hit 5,000 subscribers it has
been our goal for quite some time and we finally hit it yesterday so thank you so much for the
support and all you guys watching the videos every single day we're going to keep you guys updated
here on the channel for everything that's going on with the Red Wings. Now first order of business
before we get into an update on Dylan Larkin is the Red Wings have made some more roster moves
today you can see these are all the players on waivers a lot of teams are starting to make some
cuts putting players through waivers sending them down to their AHL clubs or just through waivers
and they may get claimed and today the Red Wings sent Ronald Attard and Wilmore Skoog have been
placed on waivers so they've been sent to Grand Rapids if they're not claimed which I imagine
Mark that they're not going to be claimed and they join a few names from yesterday
and Bryson Dries Shine which Dominic Shine we talked about a little bit and I saw some comments
hard-working guy love the guy doesn't make the team but I'm sure we'll see him at some point
this season John Leonard Butler and Legason so those are all the moves that they made but
the Red Wings were on the ice today for another day of training camp they do have a couple more
games coming up here and we're going to break those down including some decisions on the lineup
as some cuts are being made but we have some injury updates first of all and I'll throw it
up to you now Mark you know Carter Bear your guy I've been talking about him a lot here on the
he is injured he's dealing with an upper body injury that's going to keep him out day to day
that could really affect his chances of making the team and I think with a short training camp
and a short pre-season it's hard for a lot of these guys to deal with an injury be out for a
week and then still find a spot in the lineup of course Carter Bear adds a lot his great play
where it comes to shooting his hands everything this guy brings on the offensive end plus his
compete it's an incredible player that's going to grow into a top six player I think it's without
a doubt at this point just watching his games from when he played in the WHL but Darius I think
now looking at this it's going to get interesting because there's a limited amount of spots they're
making their cuts Carter Bear can still make this team if he's impressed enough but I think with the
lack of games he'll get over the next week there's a chance we see them go down to Grand Rapids but
that's going to be a powerhouse team they were already good last season adding in a lot of these
young guys Trey Augustine taking the pipes that's going to be a fun team and I think it's without a
doubt at some point Carter Bear is going to be in this lineup it just might not be game one with
this update coming through yeah and it might have been he was looking very good and he was getting
an opportunity in different games in different situations but ultimately this injury as we've
seen around the league already could have serious implications on him not making the team and just
the team in general so we'll follow that closely over the next couple days see if uh you know he
does get sent down but ultimately if he does we'll see him back up at some point he's going to be a
huge factor for this team moving forward another update today Dylan Larkin was back on the ice
today with the team not taking line rushes he is not going to be playing in tomorrow's preseason
game he may be available and this was just the update that everyone got from Todd McClellan
uh he may be available to play on Saturday so again this injury is not anything that you know
even you know I made it sound like that first initial report uh that he was injured that was
like oh yeah he's injured they're looking for a trade still or whatever it is but no it does
seem like he is actually injured and he's working his way back from it so hopefully he is cleared
soon and can return to in-game action because uh for everything that's happened this summer they
are going to absolutely need him in the lineup so that'll be if they have any chance of making
the playoffs this year but uh so he will not be playing Thursday he may be back in the lineup on
Saturday now a couple other updates too uh on him it doesn't seem like he's ready to play on a line
yet and he was skating today as an extra he was also taking uh rushes and we'll get into the lines
in a second uh with some of the lines he was kind of in and out even though he was skating as an
extra he was taking part in battle drills along the board so mark it seems like he is very close
to returning again like we got a timeline of maybe Saturday at this point they want to try and get
him into that last preseason game so then he can get going next week in the regular season uh kick
off but what do you make of some of this uh obviously not ideal that this guy's injured
at this point in time but he's making his way back at least he's taking part in battle drills
and he is you know skating and taking some line rushes but not quite yet to be playing on a line
i mean it's going to be so interesting i think there's a lot to look at of course dylan larkin
getting healthy and back into the lineup is the first step but i think that opening game
for detroit and home ice is going to be very interesting to see not only how this fan base
kind of retaliates against dylan larkin and of course his demand to be out of this organization
but darius i keep thinking about and i was laid down last night overthinking about the situation
of what happens if dylan larkin you get into the season and a trade doesn't happen they look and
say hey this is going to be closer to trade deadline what if this team gets off to a hot
start and takes the top of the atlantic division takes the top of the eastern conference with this
lineup of course without dylan larkin it's kind of thin down the middle you have a lot of guys
that can take the next step of course danielson and casper two young guys that want to be full-time
nhls and be prominent forces in the future of this team but darius again with dylan larkin
not in this and with most teams not willing to trade the first line center is andrew copp good
enough because at the end of the day dylan larkin's a huge part of this team as much as he
wants out of course not only the former captain that's a little different thing to talk about
but i think it's going to be interesting watching him get back from his injury and if this team
starts hot man i don't know how this situation is going to unfold but there is probably a chance
that deadline is going to be when larkin gets moved it's pretty interesting that you bring
that up too because the conversation on social media has pivoted to what if the red wings
surprise everyone because they always get off to a good start right and even last season it
was a great start and then a disastrous again march uh that really sunk the team right so
that's something that we're obviously going to be keeping an eye on here as the season gets
underway and maybe it's a galvanizing moment for some of these guys the lines are also interesting
too because you bring up you know if you plug larkin back in i would imagine cot moves down
if cot moves down would you want to keep finney and casper together right that that's something
for i think todd mcclellan to definitely think upon and uh have to try out over the next couple
days because i think that's going to be a huge factor and that fourth line too is pretty interesting
where appleton is playing on the left side now instead of the right because nbn is going to take
that right spot and again these are not like the final final lineups we'll see what that looks like
as we head towards you know after the weekend and into early next week and what they kind of look
uh also albert johnson uh yesterday or johansson uh four points looked really good he's another guy
that could you know it may play a role with this team this season so that's another name to keep
an eye on as things can progress here so nothing is set in stone at all with this team which i
think is a good thing because it should just be you know survival the fittest whoever's showing out
should get those spots that is for sure these are the power play units right now nothing crazy i
mean arvinson i i'm not shocked to see him on the power play at this point a cop i wonder if he's
replaced with larkin when he returns the brinkett of course raymond we know that's uh you know what
was going to happen in cider kind of quarterbacking everything but it's going to be really really
interesting as we head towards the last pre-season games here mark like to see who you know really
takes these opportunities uh and makes the most of them because you know i don't know if you have
any thoughts on nbn specifically but we know he can be a great player he's going to have to do it
probably in limited minutes with the team but they're going to be relying on a guy like that
and some of the defense for two to produce some points and try to you know get this team into you
know being a competitive team if i'm todd i look at this group and you know who's going to make
this line of don't lurk and when healthy is going to be on the team mo is going to be on this team
but i think an interesting thing to look at now is who performs the best five on five again you
have a great power player a group of guys that can work on the power play you need those guys
to produce offensively five on five you've seen that be a reason they went out and made some
signings this offseason i think between all the young guys making that push if you have someone
that even shows flashes of hey this guy's a bit dominant when it comes to five on five i genuinely
think that's going to be a big point on how they decide the last couple spots of course you take
the best available guy you don't take someone just because they can shoot a little harder five on five
but darius at the end of the day i think there's going to be some interesting cuts here and i
genuinely think one of these young guys are going to not only shock us to start the season but be a
prominent force moving into the latter half of the season with the team and there's another name
in danielson that we're going to be all watching too because a lot of fans want to see
what he has and um again they're calling it the worst third line in all of hockey with rasmussen
conker and keegan kovacar but uh no we're just joking about that but on social media they are
having a lot of fun with that line as it's currently constructed that is for sure but
guys let us know in the comments how you feel about that new update on dylan larkin he is nearing a
return the red wings continue to make cuts continue to make moves and todd mcmullan has
a lot of tough decisions on his hands as we head towards the end of the preseason
