We have a mother and we're presuming babies because the customer has seen them. We haven't
seen the babies yet. They're underneath a deck but inside a window well under the deck and she's
protected because there's a bump out above her for a window on the main level. I'm not really
sure how this is going to go because it's going to take some time to open those windows and there
might be a screen on it so we're going to have to work fast but I have a feeling that she might
actually be able to get a baby if we don't chase her off and the glass is broken so that could
complicate how we open up the window and that. And we're opening the window to the basement so we
don't want her coming obviously to the house. She should be scared but we'll see what happens. Let's
go uh explore our opportunities. It's serious you're looking at us here. Okay.
You know the glass is broken here right? Oh yeah. Okay. There's a little lock on the left. Yeah I
just want to make sure this doesn't break. Okay see the lock. Hey mom. Yeah I see it. Hey mom.
What's going on? We want to watch carefully that she doesn't pick one up. Yeah you come in close if
It's pretty calm just looking back at us.
I might have to go through the screen because I don't think that screen will
open up for me. I know you're watching me carefully.
Okay I want you to go go go go go go go. Okay she went. Is she moving? Yeah. Okay go go go go go. Hey
give me something because I need to get the grabbers. It's sitting right there.
Oh yeah she's staying very close here. Zoom into her there.
She got out of the window well but she's behind it right now. Yeah we're just
our biggest fear is that she takes a baby away from us and we can't get it back. Nope nope nope okay.
Okay so she's kind of backed away a little bit. She's still under the deck and we're going to get
these babies now. You're gonna have to grab a little bit.
There's one little guy. I'm keeping an eye on whether she's coming back or not.
They're plump healthy little guys. I got him. He's hanging on to my club. Got him? Yeah.
They're noisy. Gone somewhere over there.
Many fat little guys. They're certainly being fed very well. How many? I think three in total.
But the mother was very bold. She stayed close by. This one guy's trying to get away and he's
kicking his brother. You know he grabbed and he's falling over. Good little spot for her though. She's
well protected. See above is the room above so no rain is getting on her here.
And it's like a big playpen for the babies.
So we'll let's go and grab another guy here. Let's grab this guy. Come on baby. Come on.
There he is.
Got a little girl here. A girl.
I know this guy's eyes are open so he's exactly 21 days old.
There's her mama. She's right there. She's looking back at us.
We're gonna grab this guy. We got two more so I'm gonna
I'm just gonna grab these guys before she gets too anxious in this here.
Okay another one. His eyes are open too. Look at that. What do we got here? Another girl.
We like girls because they put away. Go go go go. She's down a little bit up in here.
Okay we got all the babies away from her right now. We'll lure her out.
And another girl. Wow. Yeah again we like girls because they produce more babies and give us more
work. Okay so let's um we can vacate this area now.
We don't want to stress mother too much at this point. Okay. Close the windows. Go ahead grab her.
He's just clinging. All of their eyes are open. They have another tongue.
That first one didn't have his eyes open did it? Yeah yeah all their eyes were open. Oh I
didn't know. So yeah I was a little concerned that the mother would grab a baby and head off with it
but she uh she stared me down quite a bit even from outside the window well looking at what I
was doing and then the whole time I was working she was only two feet away and she the babies
were quite noisy so she probably was a little anxious but she didn't growl to the very end of
the process of taking the babies out. So we have all the babies. Mom's under the deck. We should
be able to lure her out. The area where she comes out is a little confined so it's going to be a
little complicated but we'll see what happens when we get out there. Follow me. Isn't he cute?
He's only three weeks old. Yeah their eyes open at 21 days and you can tell their eyes like just
open so. And there's four of them. They're in here too. Now so we have to try to get the mom
to come out. I think she will because they're so loud and she was paying attention the whole time
so we'll go put one in the backyard and get her to hopefully take them for a mouse. She's out!
I just saw her. Mom! Oh baby. She just went to the neighbor's backyard. I saw her across the driveway.
We just saw the mom.
Hi baby. She went to this deck. Let's just see if she'll come.
She might have gone down that deck. So I was getting some tools from the truck and then I
look across and saw the raccoon running across the neighbor's backyard and saw her hop up under
that deck and then I grabbed a baby and put it right there and she came and got it. That was
so perfect. So now she has one of her babies which is great and we can try to give her more here now
that she's not under the deck she's a lot more comfortable going to get her baby. That was good.
I just happened to see it and she got her baby. Come over let's see. So she was going up over the
deck there so just quickly like I we ran and she came as soon as she heard the crying
grabbed her baby. She was hesitant like she looked like look at her ears. That's so cool. Yeah she's
got big ears. We want to make sure she I mean she went in that deck so I don't think she's...
It was the hammering down the board that I took off. And that's what scared her. Well it's because
it was quiet. We weren't there. She ran and Spencer had to run over the camera there.
Oh it's gone. That's very cool. Perfect. So it took us about half an hour to try to get her out and
then when everything calmed down she decided to make a move on her own. Couldn't ask for anything
better. So now we can close it all up set up the rest of the babies in a baby box. Yeah we might
even see her come back while we're working but we should get that hole closed. Okay we are currently
screening the deck and the mom has one of her babies on a in a deck a couple doors over which
is good it's not her permanent next spot it's probably just temporary because she was scared.
So we're just going to screen this deck get it closed in and then we have the baby box there
we'll place all the babies in there and we'll see if she comes back one more time but if she doesn't
we'll just leave them there for her to come back later. Okay so we have all the babies here
mom has one of them oh mom has one of them and we're going to put the rest in the box and mom
will likely come back later probably tonight but maybe later today. Oh they're so noisy
and we're going to watch for mom because we haven't made them cry
We haven't made them cry since we gave her one so she might come but we'll keep an eye out while
we place them in the box it'll be heated for them. So there was four total there's the last little guy
Just keeping an eye out for mom maybe let them cry for a minute
Hey bud it's okay they're so much cooler when they're always cool but they're so much cooler
when their eyes open because now they're they have personality they can see what's going on
they want to climb around
so they're about 21 days of age
You're so cute
So go with your siblings calm him down there we go good job it's okay
and we don't currently have any cameras with us but I'm hopefully going to come back later with
one so that we can see what's going on all our cameras are on other jobs at the moment oh he's
sleepy your siblings are on top of you and we'll plug in the heating pad so they're warm
it's pretty warm today but it's a little cooler overnight so that's why we'll do that
okay you wait for mom she'll be back and we're going to place it over by her entry hole so that
she knows where to find them. The whole deck is now screened and mom is out so we were able
just to close the whole deck in and we're going to place the box I don't know hopefully it'll fit
over there but first I'm just going to attach the extension cord before I get it in there
just so it's easier right here just so they're warm if she doesn't come back till later today
they'll stay cozy in here I'm gonna plug the extension cord in we'll turn it on
going to be four and we'll make sure it stays on shove the cords down there
so we want to put the boxes close to the entry hole because that's where the mother is going
to come back to try to get to them she might think they're still inside the box into this
tight space so that they stay in the box but yet she'll stumble across them so we're placing it
sideways I don't know that I've ever configured the box like this okay bye-bye
we're just moving you a little bit enjoy the sunshine where you can
a few months before you see it again okay
mom will keep them in the den they wouldn't be coming out yet
okay I just need you to lower it into this spot that's why come right over here that's
yeah I guess you better explain
but they wouldn't have left this done den for another month or two so that's why that's why
she's going to take them into another dark space and they won't see the light of day until they
get big enough and mobile where they're actually going out to forage with her but uh let me show
it looks good so that's how we got it it's on its sides wedged in between the air conditioner
and the wall and this the her entry hole is right in behind there which we now have screened
so she'll come back come this is the way she would normally exit the hole she'd go into this alleyway
and then go out foraging for the night so she'll come back here she'll go between the fence and
walk in and she'll either hear them or smell them and then she'll one by one
so as you can see the mother has returned at about 9 45 pm she is a little confused by the box
usually her entry hole would have been right there beside the deck so she's just getting on top of
the ac unit looking around kind of getting familiar with the surroundings until she finally goes up
to the front of the box where the opening is and right now she would be seeing her babies
she knows they're in there kind of assessing her situation and here she goes grabs a baby
and you will see here she starts to grab all her babies and this is just some mothers would
prefer to get all the babies out at once their eyes are open so they know what they're doing
and they are a little too young to follow her but she's just getting them out so she can start
moving them quickly so there she goes takes the one baby off in a second she has all three out of
the box right now she's making sure that they're all gathered together she's a very good mom very
maternal and she's taking care of all her babies so you can still see her on the right there she's
behind the fence dealing with her three babies
and see her tail and her eye in the bottom right corner it's a little dark but you can kind of see
her there and there she goes with a baby we did count she does did come back for all of her babies
there she goes with another and here she is for the last baby and off they go
