There is no way they just did this. The San Francisco Giants just made one of the funniest moves
they could possibly make before the end of the season and a familiar face and
fairly popular face of the former Giants is back in the orange and black. I'm gonna break down the latest involving the San Francisco Giants
bullpen here on SF Giants Digest. If you're new here, welcome to the channel.
I'm your host Michael Monreale, and if you've been here before, welcome back to SF Giants Digest.
We're so glad you found your way back to the channel. Now before we get into today's video,
we do have a word from today's sponsor. Look, if we're being completely honest,
it has been a disastrous and extremely underwhelming
2026 campaign for the San Francisco Giants, and if you're like me watching close to every single game,
I'm sure you get stressed out watching this team play baseball at times.
That's why I have to tell you guys about
If I'm being completely honest, at times when this team is playing poor baseball,
I would genuinely throw this thing on when watching because it helps me calm down.
Recently, I've been using it as part of my nighttime recovery routine.
It's a small wearable you place on your neck and control through the app with programs for things like stress, sleep, focus, and energy.
Sessions are only around four minutes, so it's really easy to work into my day.
Personally, I've noticed that it really does change my sleep and helps me fall asleep much quicker
heading into bed. As someone who likes to go to the gym a lot and working out is a big part of my life,
I do place a lot of stress on my body throughout the course of the day.
That's why sleep is extremely important to me. I've been using this thing for bedtime,
you know, over the last few weeks and it has drastically changed my level of sleep throughout the night.

you know, it's getting later in the day. I want to calm down before, you know, getting into my nighttime routine.
But we're also heading into a really stressful offseason in Major League Baseball. A lockout is looming and we're all typically
underwhelmed with the offseason the San Francisco Giants put together. Make sure you grab a Pulsetto. Use my link below to get 10% off.
Thank you so much.
Now, Pulsetto is actually a perfect sponsor for today's video because the pitcher we're talking about was known for being extremely calm.
He got the nickname Tranquillo Camilo for a reason. And what do you know, Camilo Duvall is back with the San Francisco Giants.
This was announced by the Giants.
So one of those rare cases where it's not reported by a beat writer, by a national insider.
This comes directly from the Giants Twitter account. Earlier today, SF Giants roster moves right-handed pitcher
Camilo Duvall was claimed off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Right-handed pitcher Blade Tidwell was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Now, this comes shortly after the Pirates did DFA Camilo Duvall. This came on
Tuesday, it was, as you can see from Robert Murray, the Pirates designated reliever Camilo Duvall for assignment.
And I actually retweeted this saying, wow, the San Francisco Giants have the chance to do the funniest thing ever.
And it is official. Camilo Duvall is back in San Francisco.
He's back in the orange and black and, you know, obviously last year he went to the Yankees at the trade deadline and now
all of a sudden the Giants basically got
Jesus Rodriguez, Parks Harbor, two of their more intriguing prospects, as well as two other arms towards the back end of the system,
for completely free from the New York Yankees, because obviously Camilo Duvall is back in the organization.
Now, since going to the Yankees, it's been a relatively
interesting career for Camilo Duvall.
He's gone a little bit downhill in terms of his stuff, which we'll get into in a little bit.
But in terms of his production, it's been an up-and-down roller coaster for Duvall since leaving the Giants organization. As you can see,
he got to New York, posted a 4-8-2 ERA in 18 and two-thirds innings last year.
Then this year with the New York Yankees to start the season, 39 and two-thirds innings and a 4-5-4 ERA.
So, not the best run of success for Camilo Duvall with the New York Yankees. Maybe it's the crowd there.
I don't know what it was, but he just really struggled in that environment.
He went to the Pirates right before the trade deadline.
I believe a day early, actually, compared to when the actual deadline happened. In 19 innings,
he was relatively better. In 19 innings, a 3-7-9 ERA, 0.1 wins by replacement, and he was striking out
10.9 hitters per nine innings, which was one of his better marks in recent years. The one downside,
which has always been the biggest downside with Camilo Duvall,
he was walking 6.63 hitters per nine with the Pirates in that small sample.
It's been an intriguing career for Camilo Duvall, but we know that in the tank, there is a very talented reliever.
Look at what he did in 2022 and 2023. Back-to-back seasons of 67 and two-thirds innings, a 2-5-3 ERA in 2022, a
2-9-3 in 2023, and he was striking out 10 to 11 hitters per nine
every single year, and the walks weren't as big of a problem as they are now.
He was walking, you know, three and a half hitters per nine innings, which isn't the worst mark in the world. Recent seasons,
it's been up above four, it's been above five in some instances,
so it's been more of a downhill slide for Camilo Duvall over the last few seasons,
but I still think this is a good flyer to take if you're the San Francisco Giants, because if you can somehow get Duvall
to re-tap into what made him an all-star years ago,
then that is absolutely the right move for what we've seen this bullpen look like over the course of this season, and heading into
next season, we know that there's gonna have to be some significant additions to the back end of that group. Now,
I did mention that, you know,
it's been a pretty downhill ride for his stuff over the course of the last few years, and you can see it here.
Stuff Plus basically tells you how nasty a pitch is by a lot of the metrics, a lot of the underlying numbers, and his sinker
and cutter have gone downhill pretty significantly over the course of his career.
You look at what it was in 2022. The sinker had a Stuff Plus rating of 109, and the cutter 106,
and then the next year in 2023, when Duvall was an all-star, a Stuff Plus sinker of 110, and the cutter
113. Now, the one constant for Duvall has been how nasty the slider is. You look at that number down the road entirely, the Stuff
Plus on the SL, that's been
125 to 135 basically through the entirety of his career, which is awesome. You love to see that.
We also know that the biggest thing with Duvall is if that slider is in the strike zone, or if it's even starting in the
strike zone, because if it's starting on the outer half against righties, they're not gonna swing at that.
They can read it pretty, pretty easily, and they can tell it's gonna be a ball.
But if it's starting in the strike zone, or if he's landing it for a strike, then he can be a dominant reliever.
We just haven't necessarily seen that very consistently since the end of the 2024 season, I guess, maybe even the 2023 season.
So again, it's been an inconsistent few years for Duvall, but who knows, maybe coming back to a familiar place can bring him a little bit,
help him tap into what made him so talented earlier years of his career. Again,
I talk about, you know, earlier half of 2025 before the trade deadline. There were glimpses of that talented reliever.
Now, yes, there were some blow-ups,
but we saw a little bit more consistency out of him in the back end of the bullpen, which obviously, of course,
came before the trade deadline. Now,
I do want to talk about some of the money stuff, some of the contract stuff with Kamil Duvall.
This comes to us from Alex Pavlovich of NBC Sports Bay Area. Kamil Duvall is ARB eligible and a non-tender candidate.
He'll make seven plus million dollars this year, but he's the type of the Giants were planning to add to the bullpen mix this
offseason anyway, so he could still be a fit if he wants to be here. Either way, a fun wrinkle for the final weekend.
I know a lot of you immediately are saying there is no way I would pay Kamil Duvall more than seven million dollars heading into
2027, but the Giants have talked about adding guys with
experience in the back end of this bullpen heading into 2027. Buster Posey has already come out and said, you know,
yeah, we need to make the bullpen a focus this offseason.
We need to add guys who have experience in the eighth and ninth innings who have done it before and those guys can also help
kind of, you know, train some of the younger relievers that have been part of that group in
2026. So from that side of things, bringing Kamil Duvall back for 2027 does make a lot of sense.
However, the numbers over the last two years at that price range do not make a lot of sense.
So if he's here for, you know,
just the next three days and then is, you know,
non-tender this offseason, that would also make sense for the Giants because I'd understand if they don't want to pay him over seven
million dollars this offseason.
However, there is no doubt in my mind that Kamil Duvall is a much better option than some of the guys we've seen in
the Giants bullpen over the course of the 2026 campaign.
I do think that the Giants had to make that trade in 2025 because they were obviously going nowhere in terms of, you know,
winning, contention, even a wildcard spot last season.
So that deal makes a lot of sense. And now you have Park Sarber,
who's one of your more consistent hitting prospects in the farm system at AAA.
So he could be a big leaguer in the very near future. And now Kamil Duvall is back.
So at the end of the day that trade meant absolutely nothing and you win that trade at ten times out of ten now.
And also I just think this is the type of addition that could be a lot of fun heading into the offseason.
I know a lot of you are gonna think that Kamil Duvall is washed. He doesn't have the stuff anymore.
He's not a very talented reliever anymore. But at this point in time, we know the Giants aren't gonna spend, you know,
40 plus million dollars on a reliever. That Mark Melanson deal back in the mid 2010s
absolutely scarred this franchise from spending big on closers.
So if Kamil Duvall can give the Giants 60 innings at a 3-5 ERA next year,
I think you absolutely take that,
especially if he's striking out close to 10 hitters per nine innings because at this current moment a lot of the guys heading into the
bullpen next year have lacked swing and miss stuff and have lacked, you know, the ability to rack up strikeouts.
Now this also opens up a bigger conversation for Buster Posey because
his biggest goal this offseason is going to be to build up the bullpen, of course, and the rotation.
The Giants have two starters locked in their rotation and in the bullpen, it's wide open right now.
I think Trent Harris is locked into that role that he's in, you know, maybe the 6th, 7th, 8th inning next year.
I think Randy Rodriguez will obviously be locked in once he's back from Tommy John.
He should be ready to go by opening day. There's a few names that you can mix in there. Keaton Wynn,
maybe Tugboat Wilkinson. There's a couple arms that have showed the part in
but for the most part, Buster Posey has to rebuild an entire bullpen, has to get some late inning guys because
we've seen all 2026 and actually a lot of 2025. The Giants not having a closer has been an extreme
problem and one of the bigger reasons why they've been so significantly below 500 throughout the
course of the 2026 campaign. That is going to do it for today's video. I just think this move is
hilarious. I think it's so funny, especially when the Pirates originally DFA'd Kamil Davol. I said,
the Giants have the ability to do the funniest thing ever, bring him back after trading him
at the deadline a year ago. It's really funny. The circumstances are pretty hilarious but
at the end of the day, this is a really intriguing move and I wouldn't be surprised if Kamil Davol
is part of that opening day bullpen heading in to the 2027 campaign whenever that officially
starts. If you enjoyed today's video, make sure to go down below, leave a comment your thoughts on
the Giants bringing back Kamil Davol and if you enjoyed the video, make sure to like, subscribe.
