Multiple HUGE Patriots updates... Major Changes coming
1 Video View·Sep 23, 2026
We have multiple huge Patriots updates as they just got great news on an injury update from
Mike Rabel on one specific player, plus some major changes are coming with the offensive
line given the injury to Michael Wynjew.
Rabel gives us an inside look into what we can expect and who could take his spot.
We break it all down for you here today on Patriots Digest.
Welcome everybody.
I'm JC Anderson.
I hope you're having a great day wherever you guys might be.
Lots of interesting news, updates, and rumors from Rabes today gave us, of course, an inside
look into a couple injuries, specifically Draymond Jones and, of course, Michael Wynjew.
He didn't rule him out for the season, which, by the way, was kind of interesting.
You'd think that would probably be a season-ending injury, but he said that in the short term
we cannot rely on him.
And, of course, that just brings up the discussion of who exactly is going to take over his spot.
But let's get to kind of one-by-one here and break it down step-by-step.
Here it is on Draymond Jones, and this is some really, really good news.
Everything that Draymond Jones went through yesterday seems to be a little bit more minor
than what we expected.
May have been a shoulder dislocation.
We don't really exactly know the specifics of the injury, but he did say this.
Draymond Jones will do everything he can to be ready for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
I don't know how he's going to progress during the week.
I know that he wasn't able to finish the game, obviously.
He'll do everything he can to be ready, and if he's not, then we'll have alternate plans,
which alternate plans do involve Gabe Ackes, and he actually looked pretty good.
We'll talk about him in a second as well, but I'm actually kind of shocked.
I really thought with the injury that it looked like it was probably going to be a multi-week
absence for Draymond Jones.
The fact that he is trying to play this week at worst probably means we see him for the
Buffalo Bills game in week number four, which I will 100% take, given the situation that
we had yesterday with all the injuries going on.
Speaking of injuries, week two had a lot of them.
Week two will wrap up tonight with LA versus New York, and the Giants and Rams taking on
each other.
I'm going to trade yes on Cauchy for the Giants to win this one.
I'm going to buy into what they did last week against the Cowboys, and I'm going to buy
into the Rams not looking as good.
I know it's Aaron Donovan.
I know he's making a return.
That's great.
I'm putting $25, though, on a trade for yes for the Giants to win this game.
$88.07 will come right back to me once they win, and if you're on Cauchy, you're going
to be trading directly against other users, not the house, like an additional sports book.
You're buying yes or no contracts in the outcome of events across sports, politics, or even
the weather, for example.
If you are interested in trying out our presenting sponsor, Cauchy, well, boy, do we have the
deal for you, because if you use the link in the description or on the pinned comment
of today's video, and then you use this code, DigestNFL, you're going to get $25 added
to your account, which you can't find anywhere else.
So go check them out.
We appreciate Cauchy for sponsoring today's video.
Huge news.
Andre Mongeau.
I mean, that is such a big thing for what this Patriots defense kind of means.
I think that he has been really as advertised since joining him, 15th in terms of PFF grade
for the defensive edge rushers, 13th in his pass rush grade.
The red defense grand just middle of the pack, 45-ish.
One sack, two assists, two tackles.
I am thinking that this guy is kind of the Harold Landry replacement, without Harold
Landry at the moment.
Obviously, we could get him back in week five, and once you have those two, along with what
Gabe Ackes is doing, I'm going to say that it's going to be a pretty good addressing
group.
Now, I do want to focus on Ackes real quick before we turn our attention to the offensive
line, because there was some interesting things that were said yesterday about Ackes.
Obviously, I do think there is some really intriguing reports about Ackes out there,
some people saying that he's an unblocked merchant, or that he has gotten kind of lucky.
I'm going to go with the fact that he's played well, and the stats are there, and I'm going
to just run with that.
I don't know that I'm saying that he's going to be the defensive rookie of the year, but
he's looking really solid out there right now, and I think it was interesting, because
yesterday Aaron Rodgers, future Hall of Fame quarterback, right?
He said, great effing job, man, when he went up and hugged Gabe Ackes.
Ackes obviously was the guy who picked the ball off the kind of errant pass from Bernhardt,
bounced off his hands, and then if it weren't for the head Aaron Rodgers, he would have
picked six for Ackes as well, so I did find that interesting, but I'm excited to see what
he's able to do over the next couple of weeks, especially if Draymond Jones is not able to
go this week.
A lot of pressure is going to be put on him, and there's going to be a lot to diagnose,
and guess what?
They're going to put the better blocker, and there's a lot of things that go with that.
They're going to chip him more.
Over his first two games, I'll take a sack and an interception and say that it's pretty
solid.
Seven tackles as well in very limited snaps throughout these first two games.
He's actually played Gabe Ackes a lot, has had some pretty high comments about him, and
I think that right now, you've got to look at him as a really prioritization piece given
what this outside linebacker room looks like and what exactly you could be left with if
Jones cannot go this week against a very talented Jaguars team, even despite the loss yesterday
to the Broncos.
That all being said, that was one of the minor injuries when it comes to all things said.
The bigger injury was obviously to Mike Owenu and kind of what happened there, and that
is where we go to Mike Grable.
Knowing that Owenu, I mentioned, is not technically out for the season just yet, at least Mike
Grable didn't say that, yet he probably will not be available in the short term.
The question became, who's going to take over at the right guard position?
That's where first round pick Caleb Lomu came up as a potential option, and here's what
Mike Grable had to say on that option.
Quote, there's a lot of things we could look at.
Caleb's been trying to predominantly practice and be there and be ready to go playing tackle.
Excuse me, we've got some guys we can move in there and Caleb would be one of those guys
that we can possibly do that with, but again, we just have to make sure that we have the
best five available.
Just my take on this, we know what Greg Van Roten brought to the team, we've seen their
PFA grades, they're not solid.
I can't see a better player to take over in that right guard slot than Caleb Lomu.
We knew that he was taking a lot of, you know, snaps across the offensive line this training
camp.
Most of the time he was backing up Morgan Moses, but he also played some snaps at guard
because they were thin there.
Walter Roos was a guy who wasn't on the roster before when training camp started.
Greg Van Roten was a guy who wasn't on the roster when training camp started.
I think the best situation is to put Caleb Lomu, because listen, you want to put the
best five out there?
Okay.
Walter Roos, Ben Brown, Greg Van Roten, Demetri Kronover, Kronover was hurt by the way, Ben
Brown was too.
There's no other player that's better than Caleb Lomu on your active roster to replace
Michael in you for.
But that's just my take.
And I think it's the right one.
Maybe I'm wrong about that, but I can't see it being a whole thing.
And it's been an injury, you know, written game two, it was a very unfortunate time because
you had a when you of course suffered the major injury, Raritan left, Jones left, Pettis
left, Jones, he left, he did return, but just all over the board, there was injuries galore.
And I do think that there is, you know, some options for the Patriots to in-house fix their
guard situation.
They've got Ben Brown, Walter Roos, Greg Van Roten.
I just can't see anything being better than Caleb Lomu unless you decide to go outside
the organization.
And that's where, you know, maybe we'll make a video on that tomorrow about potential trade
options, signing options for a guard option.
If you do not want to go out and sign and you truth be believed that Michael, when you
could return this season, then I'm 100% putting Caleb Lomu at the position because he was
your first round draft pick, right?
You got to go put him in the fire and let him work.
And, you know, we talked so much about moving Will Campbell in the tackle, honestly, with
Morgan Moses, I understand the goal long term was to put Lomu over the tackle.
But now with the potential, you know, snag of not being able to have when you and we
don't know what's going to come out from injury and this contract going to be that we have
no clue.
I'm putting Caleb Lomu like 10 times out of 10.
Let me know what you think in the comments section.
Do you think Caleb Lomu should take over right guard for the New England Patriots?
If you believe so, and you agree with me, then type Y for yes.
If you think that is not the case scenario, the better option is either one of the other
players or you think that they should go out and sign or trade for somebody, then type
in for no.
But let us know down in the comments section what your thoughts are on Caleb Lomu taking
over that right guard position.
I'm personally of the mindset that, you know, that's going to be the best situation.
But as of right now, of course, we really don't know and kind of the best position moving
forward.
Now, Lomu has not played in the NFL just yet, at least effective snaps enough to be, you
know, greater than PFF wise, but he had really great grades across college.
He was one of the best pass blocking guys in all of college football.
His run blocking grade and his overall grade were both really solid as well.
So given you want to protect Drake May, I just I can't see a better option than this.
But maybe there's a guy out there.
They want to go trade for me.
Maybe there's a guy that they've had their eye on knowing that this could be a possibility
and we'll wait and see when that happens.
For now, though, guys, we appreciate you watching and we'll see you next time on the show.
Peace out, guys.
