MLB Insider Drops SURPRISING Jays Report...

Insider has just dropped a surprising Jays free agency report and ahead of what's going to be a
very exciting offseason. The Jays have a ton of needs, a ton of areas to improve, and an insider
just dropped an interesting report revealing the Jays have interest in a veteran lefty reliever.
We're to break down who it is, discuss what it means going forward, as well as a bunch of other
updates including some notes surrounding Spencer Miles and his role going forward into next season
as pertains to being a potential starter. A lot to go over today, but before we get into it,
now, ladies and gentlemen, we have a lot to discuss on this episode. Now, obviously,
a lot of the talks this offseason are going to be, I mean, I've already started about the
offense where they need to improve, but an area where they are going to make a move is in the
bullpen, and an interesting new report has dropped surrounding Taylor Rodgers, reportedly, you know,
viewing Toronto as a serious option in free agency. Now, you might be saying, who is Taylor
Rodgers? Taylor Rodgers is, of course, Tyler Rodgers' brother. So, Bob Nightingale dropped
a report saying his other preferred destination would be Toronto, where he could reunite with
his twin brother, Tyler, in the Blue Jays' bullpen. So, Bob Nightingale dropped a report
essentially saying that Taylor Rodgers, Tyler's brother, would be interested in joining Toronto,
and there could be some mutual interest there, and the Jays would be interested because of the
a, he's a lefty, b, obviously, the relationship to his brother, and it's an interesting one for me
because I like talking about the big bats, but at the end of the day, they are going to need
some more bullpen arms. Taylor's coming off of a down year, right, by all accounts for him,
and he is not a high-velocity guy, almost similar to his brother in some ways. You can see here,
doesn't allow a lot of hard contact. Last year for the twins, a 4.33 ERA, but if you look at
the previous two years, 3.38, 2.40, and if they think they can kind of, you know, dive into and
get him back to where he was, he's 35 years old. I actually don't hate this as a buy low guy,
and I know a lot of people don't necessarily love the move because you look at the initial stats,
and they need more of a, you know, Jeff Hoffman dominant type, not that Jeff Hoffman was
necessarily dominant for the Jays, but a high reliever. I think as a supplementary piece for
cheap, it could make some sense. I really do believe that only because he's had really elite
seasons in the past, and of course, there's the fun little tidbit. I don't think this can be your
only free agency move, though, and let's have one he could potentially make. So obviously,
his contract last year, a one-year $2 million deal. Obviously, we don't know yet what the offer
will be for 2027. Of course, the Jays haven't offered a deal yet reportedly, but it does become
interesting, right, because you look at the way that Tyler Rodgers performs, like his brother,
and he was fantastic for the Jays last year, and it does show that, you know, it's possible to
throw low velocity and kind of rock it, and you can see here, the other, you know, left,
you obviously have Tyler Rodgers. You can see how Taylor fits compared to his brother, but also
compared to Mason Flaherty, who is one of their other key lefties, and last year, Rodgers' fourth
of three array, 1.59 whip, pitched 60 innings, didn't strike out a ton of guys, whereas Mason
Flaherty was really, really solid, and I think this could be maybe a solid option behind Mason
Flaherty, because you look at the bullpen and the rest of it, you have Brendan Little, you have
Mason Flaherty, maybe Ricky Tiedemann factors in a little bit there, and you can kind of figure
that out, but I don't know, I don't know how you guys feel about it. I actually don't hate the idea
of the Jays going after Tyler Rodgers' brother, Taylor, and would this be the one move that I
think makes a ton of sense? Not necessarily, like it's not the number one option, but following the
new reports, again, he, it's already coming out, clearly, probably from Taylor Rodgers, that he
would be interested in reuniting with his brother, and I think there is something there, like it's
kind of fun, right, at the end of the day, it would be a fun conversation to have, especially when you look
at the rest of the team's kind of bullpen, and the way that things kind of have looked out there, so
comment down below what your thoughts are on this, and when you look at, you know, some other tidbits
here, there's another avenue to this, and it's why I think it makes a little bit sense, and that is
Mason Flaherty's workload last year, so he obviously led the league in appearances, and he's going to
have, obviously, you can see here, faced a workload reset, he needs to pitch less next year, it is,
there's no if, ands, or buts about it, he pitched in 83 games in 2026, he led the MLB in appearances,
and obviously, he was really, really good, like we showed earlier, a 3.3 ERA, he needs to pitch less,
and I'm not saying you need to go out and get Taylor Rodgers in order for that to happen,
but I do think they should probably add some more bullpen pieces, and maybe more elite ones,
I'm not saying Taylor Rodgers, necessarily, potentially more elite ones, just to kind of
supplement this bullpen, because you look at it from, I mean, this is an old screenshot,
but I want to bring it up anyways, and you can look at the way the bullpen usage was, right,
you had Louie Berland, you had Taylor Rodgers, you had Jeff Hoffman at the time, Braden Fisher,
Mason Flaherty, you know, Spencer Miles, look at all the guys, I mean, Jimmy Garcia didn't pitch,
you had Adam Mako for a while who didn't pitch, who pitched, tons of turnaround, this is an old
screenshot, but I wanted to bring it up because it shows how crazy the team has changed, your main
lefty, and only, really, that I trust, and maybe you can argue Brendan Little, and if you're all
in on Brendan Little, where you don't think you need Taylor Rodgers, fair enough, I think adding
more depth pieces, and one thing Taylor will be is somewhat reliable, like he's never been an
atrocious reliever, you have to manage Mason Flaherty's workload next year, now, on that front,
that also brings up another question, could Spencer Miles become a starter, and move to
the rotation, and that's the other part, not necessarily of this specific, you know, potential
signing, but it's another part of this whole, whole conversation that needs to be had this
offseason, because obviously, we can look at some of his stats from last year, if you move
Miles to the starting rotation, obviously, you can see the strengths and weaknesses, the weakness
would be, you don't know exactly what you're getting out of him, and you're, there's none there,
but you're losing an elite bullpen arm, but obviously, his ERA was elite 2.63, his whip was
really, really good, he pitched similar innings to a starter who would be sheltered, right, like
almost 100 innings, I kind of like the idea, though, of keeping him in the bullpen, and we've
heard from John Schneider already before, that they view him as a potential starter, right, when
you're talking about Spencer Miles, so it is going to be a very interesting offseason for this reason,
you have tons of bullpen arms that need to pitch less, there are a few bullpen arms available,
and I think the Jays are going to be interested in, I could see them also making a huge splash
on one of the top bullpen arms, but when you're talking about guys like Taylor Rodgers, it almost
seems like these are the type of arms the Jays like to go after, names that are coming off of
down years, that don't necessarily have the same, you know, flashiness as some of the other ones,
and, yeah, I mean, it's going to be a wild, wild ride throughout the entire offseason, and I think
when we look at Spencer Miles, and what he could do going forward, again, he's coming off of one
of the best Rule 5 draft seasons that we've ever seen, right, we think back to the start of last
season, when I was covering here, I was covering Spencer Miles, okay, is he actually going to go
out and be able to be a good reliever, are they going to pick, I remember it was between Chase Lee
and Spencer Miles, obviously they went with Spencer Miles, ended up to be the right decision,
but there's just so many decisions that they have to make, right, is it going to be Spencer Miles
starting, if he isn't, okay, your bullpen's in a bit better shape, do they need to go out and get
another reliever on top of Rodgers, does Rodgers even make, you know, sense, I'm talking about
Taylor Rodgers, there's so many avenues, and I'm excited to get it rocking, because, let's not
forget here, I mean, Ross Atkins has a ton of work to do, they need to add a ton of off-season
bats, like bats are the number one priority, I would probably arrange it, bats, one more bullpen
arm, starting rotation, those starting rotations probably ahead of the bullpens, because I'm sure
there are also a lot of guys, and I had a video yesterday on it, in the MLB pipeline, that need
some role at some point, and I think they could probably factor into the bullpen, so leave your
verdict down below, would you like to see him on a cheap deal, I would not do it on an expensive
deal, I just don't think it makes sense, would you like him as bullpen depth, only after bigger
upgrades, or would you target a reliever, comment down below, A, B, or C, again, he's coming off of
a down year, but compared to some of the other bullpen arms, he'd be okay, right, he'd be okay,
so let me know down below what your thoughts are on this, and of course, more moves are going to
be coming on the horizon, we'll keep you up to date, every step of the way, thank you guys for
watching, and I'll see you in the next video, take care.
