Hello guys! Today we are going to talk about the topic of internet addiction.
Okay so now let's start with our key vocabulary words. So now let's go to our words.
What are our words for today? We got a lot of words right here. Number one is validation.
Validation means like a sense of value. So like if you send something for example a diamond,
gold, silver, bronze, those are all valuable. So that is like when you snip something or when you
touch something you will know that it's really valuable. So that is validation. That's called
validation. Our next word secondly is dopamine. Dopamine actually means it's a chemical that
makes you feel happy for just a short time. For example when you watch a movie you say oh this is
really fun, this is really exciting, I love to watch this. That makes dopamine appears in your
brain. So technically that is what dopamine do. Dopamine just makes you feel happy. Thirdly we
have the word interfer. Interfer means it's to get in the way of something. For example you're
working, you're typing, then a notification pops on. So that makes you feel distracted
or when you're working and your friend is texting you, you're curious what they texted. So that
makes you distracted. That is called interfer. Our fourth word is incessant. Incessant means
repeatedly. So it's repeated. For example if you say again,
for example you say notebook, then you say notebook, notebook, notebook. This often makes me feel
silly because I often mistake. If you say notebook, notebook, notebook, notebook, notebook,
notebook, that is actually incessant. That means repeated. If you try to say notebook
or like fast, it's gonna be really you know hard to pronounce. Then we have prevalent.
Prevalent means common or yeah it's just really common. We need colors to color.
That actually means that we need color to color something. That's really common. So we say that
it's prevalent. Let's move on to the next word which is distracted. Distracted means
taking a person's attention away where it should be. So for example if you're working on a document,
this is actually really funny but I just want to tell a story that this is just an example of
just an example of distraction. So if you're presenting like me, you're presenting,
then the bee comes by, then oh you're scared, I don't want to do it anymore, you run away.
So that is distracting. The bee distracts you from presenting. Okay our next word is
ailment. Ailment means probably it's an illness but usually it's not too serious.
For example, you have a fever, it's not too serious. You have a flu, not too serious. That's just me.
For example, if you sprain your knee, that's not too serious. You can just figure out and take care
of it on your own. But if you broke your leg or broke your arm, that is serious. Or polio,
that is serious. That's the most deadly illnesses I have ever heard. Then we have the word
compulsion. Compulsion means that it's basically a strong urge to do something. So if I urge you,
if I urge my friend to learn, I say I compulsed you to learn. And others will say that she just
compulsed my friend. Or that is a compulsion. That is a compulsion. I compulsed my friend
to do their homework. Next word is inferior. Inferior means it's like a feeling that we are
like a less important person than others. So I often get this like a celebrity. A celebrity,
I really love celebrities. And they have to be women. I don't like boys. I don't like celebrity
boys. True. For me. Well, for sure. I do know a few celebrities. I know a lot of them. I always
think that I'm not good or I'm less important than them because they make a lot of money,
they make full of success and etc. Our last word is virtual. Virtual means something that exists
online and not in reality or real world. So actually, I want to tell you a story that I
an app called Kalora. I don't know if you know Kalora, but I've heard of it before.
That somebody just actually don't know. They just post something. They convince
it's in reality. Well, yeah, sometimes it can be fake and they upload it on social media.
They convince us. That means that they're tricking us. I don't like being tricked.
Next, we have the reading comprehension. So let's start. Our first paragraph is this.
Do you feel a sense of validation? What does validation mean to them? Well, validation
is just like sense of value. So when you're online posting, linking or photoing,
receives a lot of attention, do you think it's valuable? Comment down in the section.
And according to some experts, when you send or receive information on the internet,
you experience like just you experience a short term high. Yes, you do experience that.
Sometimes you just experience a short term high thing. That is called the dopamine.
So actually, that the dopamine production in your brain is similar to the effects of drugs
for alcohol. Yeah, I would say that is correct. So I don't like using social media. But for me,
probably yes, I like using social media. But I do not like it when people hack,
trick or do other stuff that is bad. This is not good. Or I should say, not good.
And using too much social media can actually release a lot of dopamine because you always
feel like, oh, this is good. I will use this all over again, repeatedly, repeatedly.
And yeah, that is what actually dopamine do. Dopamine makes you feel happy and excited. And
you try to convince yourself that this is really cool. And it also is like a similar effect of
drugs or alcohol. When old guys or men drink alcohol or drugs, they actually do drugs.
They would even have dopamine because they're like, oh, this is so yummy. Or oh, I like this.
So that releases dopamine too. Our next paragraph, when a habit or substance
interferes, yes, our word here, with your daily life, it can be defined as an addiction,
so that you really like it, you cannot stop it, cannot take your devices out of your eyes.
Incessant email, checking and online chatting, so like texting online. And yeah,
are just a few examples of net addictions. Net addictions actually mean the internet addiction.
So that's what you call a net addiction. Online gaming and shopping are others.
These are also good. And you sometimes get addicted to them too. You don't want to go
shopping. You're like, I'm so lazy. I don't want to go shopping. I'd rather shop online.
Or this game is really fun. I like to play it. I would play it all day. Right now,
I love to play about 30 more minutes. The rise of mobile devices have made kids, children, adults
have fun. And yeah, they have addicted more prevalent. Common.
It is common. So yeah.
Our third paragraph, overuse of the internet can be a source of conflicts and relationships.
We can actually have social isolation if we spend a lot of time on the internet.
A child or spouse may feel jealous of how much time a loved one spends online.
They can be jealous, sad, angry, anxiety, a lot of emotions. So you don't want your friends or
your loved ones to feel like that, right? Sure. Why not stop using the internet too much?
People who socialize online instead of at home or at work risk losing their jobs because social
networks are too distracting. They never risk or they sometimes risk their job. They often risk
their job because online are too distracting. Instead, you should work in a company,
a business trainer, or an app, or an apartment so it doesn't distract you with emails, notifications,
messages like that. Our last paragraph, internet addiction can cause mental, physical,
it's not too serious. The compulsion to surf the web, it's like the internet or websites,
may cause people to feel anger or overwhelmed. So basically like google charm, you usually just
do a lot of research. So that makes you feel like it's basic, it's really popular.
And yeah, this can result in depression and suicide. I don't like it. So I think that I need
to reduce my time of spending time on the internet like screen time. And spending too
much time in front of a computer can also cause back aches, eye strain, carpal tunnel syndrome.
I don't like that because for example, I have back ache, my spine is curving so I don't like it.
Eye strain means that my eyes are hurting and carpal tunnel syndrome means that when I'm
typing like this, oops, when I'm actually literally typing like this, as you can see,
I'm typing like that, sometimes my wrist can hurt. So that's called the carpal tunnel syndrome.
That is what it's called. Okay, so our fifth paragraph is the internet has worked its way
to many areas of our lives, yet we use it when we're small to big. I'm not that big, but sorry,
it's tall. What can we do to avoid the internet addiction? What can we do to actually avoid the
internet addiction? Well, some experts suggested that we can have a touch-free zone.
I'm not actually sure what a touch-free zone is, but we can make our own free zone,
such as dinner table or family room. We can just leave the devices at somewhere else when we're
eating or we're just doing your homework. No researching. Out of reach in a car or with
friends is also a good idea. You can just put them somewhere else, not near with you. People
are less likely to be addicted to virtual, but they're satisfied with it. So people must learn
how to not become addicted to it because it's not good to be addicted to that.
Relationships in the real world and maintaining the strong ties with real life,
friends and family members. So we work together and build a strong relationship.
Okay. So thank you everyone for joining me today and I'll see you guys next time. Bye.
