Today, let discover the dutis of each speaker in WSC Debate!!!
Hello everyone, today I want to talk about our debating roles in WSC.
Well, maybe you have seen some of my contest debates in my YouTube channel.
Well, yes, I have made one shorts about it.
And today I'm going to talk about the main duties of the speakers.
Okay, so now let's start with speaker one.
Our first speaker, which is speaker one.
Now, what is its main duty?
Its main duty is to lay out the foundation of the team's entire argument.
So, when you are the first speaker, you need to be very urgent,
need to be very fast and tell the third speaker your ideas.
You have to speak first, so you also have to be really fast about that.
The second thing first speaker need to do is to define keywords if it's necessary.
If you define keywords, please think about the motion,
please think about what you're saying.
Because when you're talking about a keyword,
technically a keyword is when you think about the motion.
So, for example, animal testing should be banned.
Remember to check out that video later.
Animal testing should be banned.
Think about the word animal testing, right?
Animal testing.
Well, it's a pretty good word to explain, right?
Explain it as animal testing is what?
Animal testing is technically testing an animal.
So, you test an animal for maybe a kind of medicine, if it's healthy or not.
It's pretty toxic, right?
Well, you can explain it for the judge and the debaters.
Like, what is animal testing technically for you?
What do you think animal testing is?
Okay, then the third thing the first speaker needs to do is clearly,
you need to clearly state your team's position, affirmative or negative.
Okay, this is really easy, right?
Affirmative.
Maybe you're affirmative.
You think that animal testing should be banned.
Also, remember to label your speaker, right?
So, for example, you are the first speaker, then someone else.
For example, Mike is the second speaker and maybe Mai is the third speaker.
Maybe then you need to lay out the orders.
Who's this?
Who's that?
Okay, then the fifth thing you need to do is probably don't attack the team too hard
because they haven't even said anything yet.
Well, if you're the affirmative team, you often go first, right?
Well, don't attack it too hard because they haven't even said a thing.
You are the first speaker.
You are in the affirmative team, right?
So, don't rebuttal too hard even though you need to rebuttal.
And the last thing the first speaker needs to do is your tone should be clear,
focusing, and convincing.
Well, this is what the important thing is about to happen.
Well, the most important thing is you need to be urgent.
You need to be very fast because you have only four minutes to speak.
Your speech has to be very convincing, very long.
So, it would be very, very amazing for judges.
Next, I will talk about the second speaker.
If you're the second speaker, totally, here are the main duties that you need to do.
Firstly, directly respond to what your team speaker one has said.
Well, yes, you need to respond to them really quickly because don't rebuttal just yet.
Introduce yourself.
Make the intro.
Then, respond to the first speaker what she or he just said.
So, for example, they said,
animal testing should be banned because it can make the animal pain and stressful.
Yes.
So, speaker number two also need to say that.
As the speaker number one says, you respond really quickly.
As speaker number one says, animal testing makes the animal very sad and stressed.
And maybe it even died.
So, that is how you should respond.
Okay, then continue to expand and develop your team's arguments.
The second speaker also need to expand your ideas out.
So, speaker three can summarize.
Then you can add more examples and analyze the arguments more deeper.
So, technically, it is very, very hard to be speaker number two.
Speaker number two needs to try really hard to expand and make their ideas really deep.
Then, here's a note.
This team main counter attack is warrior.
Well, also, you must have a firm grasp of the opponent's contents to refute their logic.
This is when you need to rebuttal.
Have you ever heard of rebuttal?
Well, then check out my video in the end of this video.
Now, also, here is our speaker three, the third speaker, technically.
Well, the third speaker, its main task is to summarize.
It has to summarize the entire debate.
That debate up to the point that they are supposed to say.
Also, they will need to refute the point of the opponent has made in more depth.
Technically, what I'm trying to say is that many people just think that you don't need to repeat.
But you also need to rebuttal too.
Every, every speaker in debate needs to rebuttal.
Even one, two, three.
Clarify the contractions and weakness in your team's arguments.
Also, you need to clarify what has been wrong in your teams.
I mean, in the other teams.
So, technically, the point is that you need to clarify the weakness in your team.
Also, you have to defend the points that have been refuted by your team.
For example, speaker number one.
They said that it is not good.
Also, you need to state that point even more deeper and more, more deeper.
To even though rescue the idea.
You don't want it to be stolen, right?
Okay.
Also, this is a note.
This rescuer is if the team is at a disadvantage.
Technically, speaker number three is the rescuer if the team is an advantage.
This is way better because, you know, the disadvantages is better than affirmative sometimes.
Also, speaker number three should not add new arguments.
They need to summarize all of the arguments.
What do I mean by summarize?
Summarize is to gather all in one group together.
Then, you just add more ideas.
I mean, more ideas to the idea than just label.
For example, it's not good to animal test.
Because, why?
Why?
Well, technically, I think that it's pretty, pretty good.
For example, you're in the disadvantage.
Good to animal test because, you know, the medicine is good or bad.
Well, if your team says that.
I mean, if you're the third speaker of that.
You should not, not summarize the other team arguments.
Because maybe you are helping the other team if you do that.
Remember to help your team to win, right?
So, you have to summarize your team's argument, not the other's argument.
If you are on the affirmative side of that, you should summarize that is not good to animal test.
Because the animals can be painful and even stress.
Find more ideas about it.
Okay, now you are the reply speaker.
What do you mean?
Usually, speaker one or speaker three, not speaker two.
Means the final speech.
Reply speech.
We have four speech.
Speaker number one, speaker number two, speaker number three.
Then there's reply speaker.
Usually, speaker one or speaker three.
Now, our main task here is summarize the whole debate.
Now, listen really carefully and reply.
Summarize the whole debate.
What do they say?
Also, compare the arguments from both sides and state clearly why your team deserves to win.
For example, I'm in the affirmative side.
Testing animals should be me.
Well, I think my team would win because animals can be hurt from those.
Types of animal tests.
Maybe it is toxic or maybe it's a big injection, which is very, very venomous for animals.
Now you see what the reply speaker did.
Also, you shouldn't, shouldn't.
When you are the reply speaker, you shouldn't present new arguments.
That is not good.
When you present new arguments, the team doesn't deserve to win.
Here is a short summary.
Okay, so the position main test.
Speaker number one introduces the topic, then defines, then presents the main argument.
Then speaker number two refutes the opposing team, expands the argument.
Speaker number three synthesizes.
Counterattacks deeply.
Defends the argument.
Also, the reply speaker, we cannot forget about that, summarizes, evaluates, concludes the match.
Well, I think it's the end of our lesson for today.
I hope you have a good day and good luck with your debate next time.
Goodbye.
