Insider drops JAWDROPPING Red Wings Updates...
Sep 26, 2026
An NHL insider just revealed a shocking new update on Dylan Larkin and his future with
the Red Wings, as some new interesting details have been revealed revolving around his trade
request and what is to come on the trade front. But not only that, we have a major update on
Simon Evanson from the point of view of the Red Wings as well, as they continue to try and get
a contract done before the season opens in just a few days time. We're going to break down all
of these new updates and some of the truths that have been revealed on Dylan Larkin and
quite frankly is kind of puzzling as to why a trade has not gone through. We're going to break
that all down in this episode of Red Wings Digest. But guys, before we get into all of that, a quick
reminder to hit that subscribe button. We've noticed that about 85% of you guys who watch
these videos on the regular are not subscribed to the channel, which means you're missing
big updates on the Red Wings every single day, bringing you guys daily content on the Red Wings.
Thank you so much to all of you who have subscribed. We're at 5,000 subscribers now,
which is unbelievable. We set the goal a little while ago and thank you so much for allowing us
to hit that goal. We see the comments every day. Glad you guys are enjoying the content and
as fired up in the comments as we are in the videos. Now we have a brand new update on
Dylan Larkin from Elliott Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast this morning. He laid out a
couple of things. We're going to save the Simon Evanson thing because we got some thoughts on
that for a little bit later in this video. We're just going to focus on Dylan Larkin for a second,
but there are more teams that he's willing to go to than have been reported. First of all,
what? Second of all, the teams listed are Colorado, Washington, Dallas, and Tampa. Now
that does open the list a little bit more and he also speculates that he thinks the list is
somewhere around eight teams that Dylan Larkin would be willing to go to. The thing about these
teams is that it's kind of the same to Florida and Vegas where they don't have much to give up
in terms of what you want, and they're all, you know, playoff teams looking to make a push,
right? So Mark, what do you make of this new report? Because this is a little bit shocking
considering what we heard all summer. I mean, looking at the list, at least he's expanding.
It's not those original teams where it's looking at guys that cannot offer the value that Detroit
wants. But like you said, looking at the list, Colorado doesn't have a lot of assets. Washington
has a little bit, but they also just traded for Jordan Cairo. So you missed out getting a guy
like Connor McMichael into this organization, looking at Dallas, another young piece,
Tampa, no young pieces between the pipes or anywhere in between that organization. So again,
you're looking at a list of four extra teams that aren't really going to push the needle unless
something huge changes. They want to trade out. What are their big guys? And listen,
respect to Dylan Larkin for making the list longer, but I don't know if it moves the needles
with these teams. And again, you're still sucking a situation where Dylan Larkin's at camp. Maybe
he's like, Hey, the media is being mean to me. I got to expand this list a little bit. But at the
end of the day, he's still under contract. He's still with this organization. And I'm at the
point right now, screw it. If this guy's not willing to go somewhere where you're going to
get value form, keep them, hold them till trade deadline, whatever it takes, forced him into a
position where he needs to expand this to maybe a team like Utah that has so many young pieces
or someone else that is willing to offer what you're expecting back. Yeah. And one thing that
I would like to know to go back to the report is when was this expanded or was it even expanded?
Was it originally eight teams? Was it these teams that were involved? We did hear Dallas and Tampa
pretty early on, but it was more just rumors at that point. And then it was confirmed that
Dallas was put on the list. So I would like to know at what point these teams were brought to
the table, because if it was from the start, that means you just didn't have a GM in place to execute
this trade. That's a disaster, right? And that's awful. We know it's gotten to this point that
obviously Simon Evanston still doesn't have a contract. We'll get to that in a second too,
but maybe they could have pulled off a trade with a few more options on the other side of things.
The Red Wings don't really have to budge. He's here at camp at this point. He is injured. He's
working through things, whatever he's going to end up on the team. They did take the captaincy
off of him, but you don't have to just bend because he asked for a trade, right? You don't
have to bend and take whatever another team's willing to offer you, especially teams that
are all competitive and won't give you much outside of futures, right? And we know that
they did not want futures. So guys, let us know in the comments how you feel about that.
One thing I would like to know is when were these teams given? Is it at the beginning? Because then
I have a lot more questions as to how this summer played out, that's for sure. But all we can do is
speculate at this point. Now, we do have another new update, Simon Evanston and his contract,
and that plays into this new report from Elliott Friedman as well that has people freaking out
already on Twitter this morning. And you can see this from Brad cannot emphasize enough what an
absolute dumb idea it is to bridge Edmondson. Now, the reason I'm bringing this up first is because
I saw this tweet first before I saw the report and before I listened to 32 thoughts. So I'm bringing
you into my brain. We're working backwards a little bit where I go, wait a minute, a bridge
deal for Edmondson. You know what? At the end of the day, just get them signed. But that doesn't
make any sense. Why is it? Why is everyone talking about a bridge? That's because on a new in this
new report, he said that I have to think that teams are circling around the Red Wings thinking
and asking, what are you going to do here? Because I'm not sure Edmondson's crazy about a bridge. So
Edmondson's not crazy about a bridge. So then I'm like, what happened here? And in the original
report to go back to this, and I want your thoughts on this too, Mark, it's reported this
morning from Friedman that Detroit's preference, the Red Wings organization's preference is to go,
because their preference is to go on a bridge deal. Doesn't it make sense to sign them long
term? In fact, as long as possible, in fact, to an eight year contract, which you can't even do
anymore because you missed the deadline last week to get the number down. Why on earth would you
want to bridge this guy when guys that are in the same contract realm as him comparables are getting
long term contracts to bring the dollar amount down a little bit. And I mean, looking at this
you said it perfectly. First, you had no general manager, so you couldn't work with them in the
early off season to get them signed to a new contract. What did that lead to? Other players
around the league, Leo Carlson, Zeve Boyum, all these guys signed long term deals on a very high
cap it from Leo Carlson to 18 million, all the way to Zeve Boyum, a young defenseman with less
experience than Edmondson getting almost $10 million. So not only did you shoot yourself
in the foot because you did not get to eat your deal, but you can't sign anymore. And you also
didn't get him signed before these big contracts. Darius, we also got reports today coming out from
the board of governors through the NHL, that the salary caps going to rise almost $14 million over
the next couple of seasons or in the 28, 29, whatever it may be. So not only is Edmondson
sitting there saying, Hey, I can't get a seven year deal. I'd still want to do this. Now is
agents probably looking at a higher dollar amount. You missed the cutoff of getting the eight year
deal, getting them below market value. And now you're probably going to have to sign them above
market value with all the new reports coming in. This is one of the biggest fumbles. I understand
that Dylan Larkin not being tried and still hair hurts. It sucks as a fan watching a guy that
clearly doesn't want to be on this team, still skating around with the team. But I think the
biggest mishap this entire off season is how they didn't handle not only the general manager signing,
but getting him assigned to a deal because this kid's at camp. He wants to play. And now you're
just waiting and waiting, but getting into what you said about the bridge, that is one of the
biggest idiotic things I've seen where you can lock them up to a long-term deal with the cap
rising year after year, 10 million, 14 million. This is going to be a contract that ages gracefully.
And listen, if he doesn't pan out to a top two defense, when you still have them locked up on a
good deal with the rising capital, but a bridge just sounds like a, Hey, we're going to pay you
very well for three years. Guess what? We're going to have to pay you double what we probably would
have paid you this year. If we just wait that time out, I just do not get it. And genuinely,
it's frustrating to see how this organization is being managed or sorry, the lack of management
that is working between this group. Yeah. And let me make something very clear, right? There's been
a lot of the negativity around the team. We've been pretty negative through the summer, even
though we're pretty optimistic people and try to look at, you know, things through, you know,
rookies hidden gems in the organization that look like they can surprise all that type of stuff.
There's been a lot of backlash from fans on the team. And when I read stuff like this,
and these reports that come out this morning, it makes me wonder how there isn't more.
Because when you look at the entire situation, the team did not have a general manager,
the agent and the player said, we don't even know who to talk to. We want to get a contract done.
The player is at camp without a contract, which is literally unheard of. The player wants to sign
longterm, which is better for the team. When you look at the landscape of everything that's going
on, like you just outlined, and like you just outlined as well, mark, the salary cap is going
up in two years. If you sign him to a bridge, there's going to be more money available to him
that he can take at that point. That is stupid. That is bad business. You should get this contract
signed now. And for as long as possible, and you already burned a year off of that by not hitting
the deadline last week, there should be even more outrage about this. Who's actually in charge here
is Sean Horkoff want to go on a bridge. He's not the guy to be the interim general manager. Then
that doesn't make any sense for this player, the term, or any of that. And a lot of people
are worried about giving a lot of young players, big money like that. The contracts are about to
get worse. They're about to get so much. There's $127 million available on the cap in two years.
If you sign him to a bridge, you're walking him straight to take you for a walk. He's going to
take you to the cleaners. That doesn't make any sense. Anyway, a couple other updates to get to
less than how you feel about all that in the comments below, but there is a few other things
we've got to get to here before we wrap up. One of those things is the last couple of preseason
games. This guy has looked fantastic. Anton Johansson, excuse me, looks fantastic. Spent
some time in the AHL last season. He looks like he could earn a spot. When asked about guys like
that this morning, Todd McClellan had this to say, clearly he's played really well. And unfortunately
for some others that have played well, they're going to have to end up going down and they
haven't been to, you know, Anton's level. He also was talking about how, and I want to bring
this up for Max. Max asked McClellan about Anton and Axel Sandin Pelika. And he said, well,
Simon's not signed. So maybe one of them is going to make the team. He just seemed really done with
this whole situation as well, but he's the head coach and he's chugging through it. And I actually
really liked Todd McClellan. And I think he's handled this pretty well. Just a couple other
updates. I want your thoughts on all of this too, Mark, before we wrap up. These are the lines in
next week. So getting a little bit closer, and this is kind of what we saw yesterday too. So
very close to what the lineup is going to look like. This is super close. So any final thoughts
on any of these new updates, Mark, because it seems like the coach is over it. I think the
fan base is over it. And based on these new reports and, you know, mind you, it is coming
from Friedman. We don't know, you know, I tend to think whenever Friedman does talk, it's something
that is very accurate, right? But at the end of the day, it's crazy.
I mean, looking at the positives, there's a couple of young guys in this camp, like I said,
Anton's making that push. There's so many guys within this group that truly want to be here,
unlike one person. But again, we're not going to continue about Dylan Lurken for the rest of the
episode. This is a team that has a lot of potential when it comes to the young guys. And Darius,
I think over the next couple of days, and especially over the start of the season,
there's going to be a lot of surprising faces that join. And maybe we look at this in three
weeks time when they're the top team in the Atlantic division, making that push, and we say,
hey, everything's different. But let's be honest here, they got a lot to do before they win this
fan base back over. And last thing here, update on Dylan Lurken, he will not, he is expected to
miss, he will not play the last preseason game as well. It's still dealing with that injury,
but he is on the ice. He's not taking line rushes, and he won't play, but he is on the
ice working his way back. And I think it was, you know, an upper body or shoulder injury or
something like that. So he can't skate and getting reps in there. And like you kind of
outlined too, we kind of joke about it. This team, you know, won't be as bad as people are saying,
right? That's the thing. You still have a lot of skill on the team. But the problem is, you know,
what direction are you going in beyond even this season? What are you striving for? As a team,
there's so much up in the air and one of your best defensemen is not signed. And you just
stripped the captaincy off of the player who's in camp and is injured. And there's a lot going on.
Anyway, let us know how you feel in the comments below. We'll see you for another video.
