Florida Gators HUMILIATED by Missouri - What the HELL Happened?!
Oct 5, 2026
Florida Gators go down to Mizzou and get absolutely spanked, embarrassed, if you will.
45-17 and wearing black today.
It's our funeral, but we got to talk about it.
Sober Sunday.
Let's get after it.
Good morning, good evening, good to see you.
Welcome back here to High Top Sports.
For those of you that are new to this channel, or new to what we call Sober Sunday, is where
we discuss the reaction with sober thoughts.
We have our call-in show, which we had yesterday, which were not the soberest of thoughts, for
myself especially.
But you're full of piss and vinegar, and for the last couple of weeks, we were full of
good piss and vinegar.
It's been a lot of hype, it's been a lot of excitement, and that has carried over into
quote-unquote sober Sunday.
But yesterday, the energy was not quite the same as it was.
A lot of doom and gloom, a lot of frustration, and a lot of irritation for what happened
on Saturday.
But you sit back, you lay down in bed, put your head to sleep, and you get to sleep on
it a little bit and have some thoughts.
And I actually took some time to shoot this video, because I needed to really soak all
of this in, because man, it felt like for the first four weeks, we were living in a
world that I didn't even know could even exist.
And then all within 24 hours, it comes crashing down.
Now, complete overreaction, probably, for a lot of us, and a lot of us have some major
overreactions, as any fan would, okay?
You saw what happened yesterday, and there's a lot of concern that's going to be feeling
at this very moment.
But let's break it on, let's talk about it.
Because just five days ago, we had a Heisman candidate in Jaden Ball, and we were losing
Buster Falkner and Aaron Filo, because he was going to be coaching a new team next year.
Now we're ready to fire everybody with five days later.
That's the life of college football, unfortunately.
But here's the thing, man.
This is one of those games where you look at it, and you're like, where did it go wrong?
What was the issue?
The whole thing was a disaster.
It was from start, from jump shriek, just did not really seem to get going.
I don't know what it was, maybe we'll get answers from more on Monday, from Coach John
Summerall.
He did speak that he did not feel good in his pressure going into it, because I saw
it this week, just didn't know, I didn't think we were going to have it, and sure enough,
we were the furthest thing from having it, all right?
Now, I know we've got a lot of things and a lot of people that we want to fire after
this game, we're going to talk about that here today.
So for me, the first thing that I'm going to start is the secondary.
The secondary has been a point of conversation on this show every week, whether they've won
or not, which they have, it's been a point of conversation of like, that's going to have
to improve.
That has to get better.
You can't give up 39 against Auburn when you've dominated this entire game.
They marched on the field, et cetera, et cetera, blah, blah, blah, blah.
You handled your business against Ole Miss, for the most part, had some moments of weakness,
but handled it.
We were kind of overcoming a little bit.
We thought we were seeing some progression, and even against Campbell, and even against
FAU, we had questions on this secondary, myself included, kept raising the hand.
I was defending the defensive line, I think individually, I think the way that they've
been playing, what they are being called to do, I'm still not necessarily going to hate
on them.
I know we want more pressure.
I think you're calling three, four defense, they're not going to get a whole lot of pressure,
which that is another conversation we'll get into later on in this show, but the DBs is
a big area of concern.
John Summerall approached it last night in the presser, and he goes, look, if it was
just one person or one thing, we could address it, but it's much bigger than that, and he
admitted this.
He goes, look, because we were winning, because we were doing a lot of great things, he goes,
it was easy for them to hide.
It was easy to go, well, it didn't cost us the game, well, it didn't mess this up, well,
not only did it cost the game, but now it's going to be even more exploited, because it's
already been talked about, it's already been said, this cornerback room was a room that
we had high expectations for.
I think we had questions because it was going to be young, and it may be a little bit thin,
but a lot of talent.
Right?
Kermondy McClain was a number one cornerback in the country.
This was supposed to be the breakout year for him.
Hasn't been that.
You've got De'Jon Johnson going into his senior year, had high expectations for him.
You've got Ben Hanks, who was being praised like nobody's business, from all coaches,
from everybody around, that this guy was going to be him.
Hasn't quite lived up to that expectation either.
Javari Flowers has had moments of greatness, but also has had moments of just being outright
battered into the dirt.
Right?
And so the entire secondary as a whole, Kanye Clark has not lived up to his expectations.
The shining parts or the bright parts, probably just be DJ Coleman, to be quite honest with
you at this point.
And look, love these guys to death, nothing but the best, but it hasn't been good.
And that was kind of the big eye-opening last night, Austin Simmons had his way with our
defense.
Now, he also had his way with the cornerbacks, because you can't guard all day.
And I'm not necessarily going to hate on the individuals and the players on that front
line, because I think they're doing pretty damn good.
They were holding the run pretty well.
Brad White's got to figure it out.
Brad White's got to figure out how he's going to adjust his scheme a little bit, because
you don't have the talent or maybe necessarily the bodies that you need to run what you want
to do.
And the biggest thing that concerns me after yesterday is like losing a football game,
that's going to happen.
We all said this.
I talked about it all week.
Allen and I had this game circled.
This was the game that we felt, hey, going into Mizzou, the big thing for me was you've
got the first four games for Florida.
I have Florida going four now.
My reasoning behind all of that was you're going up against Auburn and a new coach.
I believe that Florida hired a better coach and had a better coaching staff and had more
talent used to handle Auburn.
They did.
You got Ole Miss coming home.
You're going to have a ton of energy.
I like our coaching staff.
I like it over the edge of Ole Miss, even with Trinidad.
And I do think you're going to have an advantage of them coming off the high of the LSU.
They did that.
Then I go, okay, but then you're going to head to Mizzou.
Tough place to play, always has been.
Talented football team, well-rounded, but you're going up against your first SEC coach.
What I mean by that is this guy's been in the league for six years.
He's been dragged.
He's been ran through the dirt, okay?
This guy was also being highly looked at this offseason.
It doesn't really get talked about a lot, but Auburn was looking at him.
LSU was looking at him, right?
We had our Auburn guy come on the show, he goes, look, LSU was potentially going to pull
him away.
Or, excuse me, Mizzou came on, he was like, look, Auburn was looking at him, or LSU was
looking at him if Lane Kiffin didn't fall through.
So Eli is a, people don't like him and I get all that, I might get some flack from that,
but a prominent coach in the SEC, and for me, I go, look, this is going to be a true
test for Coach John Summerall.
Now, like I said all last week, I felt very good about what the team had put on paper
for the last four weeks, very good about how we were looking, so I felt ultra confident
going into this game, I really did.
What happened on Saturday had me lost for words.
I really didn't know where to look.
I didn't understand the lethargic, how the players looked, I don't know what was going
on with Jayden Ball, people were saying he was hurt, that he was dealing with something,
if that was the case, why was he still playing?
I don't know.
On top of him not looking good, offensive line got bullied.
Like all of a sudden, it was like the glass broke, and reality set in, and it looked like
we didn't belong on the football field.
It looked at times that they had more guys on the field than we did, and I've been there
before, a lot last year, where it was like, we just don't look like we even belong on
this football field.
Now, losing a game, again, back to my point, losing a football game, it's part of it, it's
going to happen.
How you lose has always been my thing, right?
How did it look, right?
And it didn't look good.
It looked as bad as it possibly could, and that's where my fear comes in a little bit,
and I think that's why there is this massive overreaction.
You go into Mizzou, you play a hard-fought game, and it's just like back and forth, back
and forth.
It's like, okay, Mizzou might be a more respectable football team than we thought.
We looked really good still, they just got the ball last.
That wasn't the case.
We looked like we didn't belong.
And the biggest thing that has fear in me is that there was zero response, zero adjustments.
The game wasn't over going into half, but the team basically said it's over, and they
quit.
And we talked about that all week.
I haven't seen, that team hadn't played down yet.
That team had not had a lead up until that point.
So now you said a whole lot about yourself without saying much at all.
So when ---- ain't going your way, then you don't care.
When it's all high sky flying, then you don't care.
That tells me way more than anything else, and that is what scares me, all right?
And the penalties, and just the bad attitudes that kind of happen after the fact, that's
what I'm hoping to see get turned around pretty damn quickly.
Pretty damn quickly.
Because that was eye-opening to me, to say the least.
I have no idea what happened, I don't know if Travels was going on.
I'm not going to give too much excuse for that.
John and the boys are going to have a long week ahead of them to get ready to bounce
back for South Carolina, who had a tough loss against Kentucky, and you've got a coach in
Shane Beamer who is literally fighting for his life.
This at one point was at 14 points, but I have no idea what it's going to be now.
Vegas has got to be in shambles, just like the rest of us, with how this team is playing
and the bipolar energy that this Florida Gator football team is giving us right now.
Now, for me, I think people are going to also criticize the offense, they're going to criticize
Aaron Philo, rightfully so.
Philo was forced to have to make some throws on the football field, did not make a lot
of good throws, did not look comfortable.
A lot of that was just not much pocket protection at all, the O-line was getting bullied all
night long.
So, for me, some players in position groups have some rope to give.
O-line's got plenty of rope, they played great for four games.
I think Aaron Philo is starting to lose a little bit of his rope after the last two
games.
Jayden Ball, he's got plenty.
I don't know what happened to him, I'm just going to go ahead and not worry about that
for now, and hopefully that was just maybe too much of the fame over the last couple
of weeks.
And I think people are going to point to that as well, too.
We saw Aaron Philo do interviews, we saw Jayden Ball on Pat McAfee, and I saw that happening
last week.
And I was wondering, I go, if they lose, this is going to come back to bite them in the
ass.
There's these interviews from the players, the coaches I don't want to get too worked
up about, but these players doing these interviews, going on Pat McAfee, it's going to bite them
in the ass.
I didn't talk too much about it because I do believe, like, hey, you are a professional.
And if you go play in the league, you're probably going to be asked to do interviews, you're
going to be asked to do these things.
If you can't manage it, you ain't going to make it anyways.
So I get, as fans, it's easy for us to point to that, and that may be the case, but that's
the life that they're going to have to be moving into anyways.
And if you can't manage that, that's going to be a bigger issue in the long run anyway.
Congratulations, boys and girls, because this show is brought to you by Price Picks, and
I congratulate you because you finally made it to college football season, boys and girls.
Yes, that is right.
You can now get in on the action on Price Picks with college football.
It is time to get up after it.
This week, we're rocking and rolling, feeling pretty good about our guy Micah Alejandro
from Hawaii.
Then we've got, of course, King Miller with USC, getting some rush touchdowns.
I know we don't like FSU around these parks, but I think Ashley Daniels is going to use
a little legs in this upcoming week for some nice football to get him more in his rushing yard.
You can now get in on the action with Price Picks for the rushing season and individual
games.
And on the app, you can pick your team to just win the game outright when you use that
code HMA.
Download the app today using the link in the description.
You pay $5.
You get $150 if you win that lineup for brand new users.
And take advantage.
Ride with the crowd.
Okay?
Use the great features that Price Picks has to offer.
Price Picks.
It is good to be around.
Now, I hear you.
You're going to say, well, that's not our problem.
As a college team, they can worry about it when they get to the NFL.
And I probably, if I had to guess, could imagine we won't be hearing too much of these players
for the rest of the year during the regular season.
Now, I mean, Jaden Ball's Heisman campaign has been kaput to bed.
It's done and over with.
There's no more conversation.
You can't go for 13 yards against Mizzou and think that conversation is still in the mix.
But how he responds, how this team responds, and how this coach responds is going to be
everything.
I said it a while ago, a couple months ago, and I've said it a lot this week.
We have been riding on the ultimate high.
I mean, a high like nobody's business for seven to eight months.
Right now, nine months, actually.
I mean, it has been good news after good news after good news for this Fort O'Gator football
team, whether it was recruiting, whether it was NIL, whether it was transfer portal, coaching
hires, a lot of positivity and a lot of good graces was built up over these nine months.
And then they came in and won four games.
You win a massive game against a top five team at Ole Miss, you have built up a ton
of stock.
Right?
And I was like, but how, what's going to happen when the foot drops?
Because it's going to drop.
It's not like you're not going to just run through and go perfect season, just keep this
thing.
It's going to drop.
And that's what I was waiting for to have happen.
I didn't want it to happen, but I knew it was going to happen.
And now we've got to figure out who the hell we really are.
We're going to figure out who John Summerall truly is at this point.
And he said it in the press conference, he's sick to his stomach.
That's how we all feel, coach.
Like what the hell was that?
What the hell was that?
Bloody Tuesdays better be extra bloody and no snow cone Wednesday that tweeted out yesterday
either because snow cones need to cut to a wrap.
Everybody was flying high.
Hey, look, we talked about it.
Everybody was in the chat.
A lot of fans.
It's a trap game.
They're going to get too ahead of themselves.
They're going to get too high and mighty.
They're going to get too cocky.
And I pushed back.
I go, no, no, no.
We're going to be just okay.
Right?
I bought all in.
I was all in on the pressers mentally.
I always checked in.
I want to know.
But I got to be honest with you.
I don't bet on the Gators.
I bet on the Gators yesterday because I was like, we're going to go out to Mizzou.
We got this.
Eli Dorkowitz.
We ain't got to worry about that.
Hell, the Mizzou guy came on our show and picked Florida to win.
And we're going to roll these cats.
So if I was feeling that way, I'm sure these players walked out that thing.
They were going to just sleepwalk this Mizzou team.
They're going to just walk into this arena, just do their thing, and then walk on up out
of it.
Buster got exposed.
Brad White, I can't really say exposed.
He's been kind of getting throttled all year long.
He just got finally, you know, there was no more defending.
He lost every juice that he got.
Troutwine and his boys got beat up.
They got bullied.
And we got beat on every aspect of this game.
There wasn't a part, maybe special teams, we had some good returns, and they missed
the field goal maybe.
I don't know.
We had some great punts.
But we got beat in every facet, in every facet.
And I think that was probably the most alarming thing to me, right?
Losses happens.
You bounce back.
You find out who you are.
People are going to overreact.
I'm not one to overreact.
I mean, I am, but I'm not going to, you know, pull the fire alarm at any stretch.
But there's some concernings to me that I have to pull back my phantom a little bit
of like, why did the team quit?
Why weren't there any adjustments?
Because this was the same thing that I was excited about.
I felt like we had made adjustments for the first four couple of weeks at halftime.
There seemed to be in-game coaching.
But for whatever reason, that all seemed to go by the wayside on this game on Saturday.
So again, maybe it was a bad day.
Got ahead of themselves.
And coach said it.
He said it on Monday.
You're either going to get humbled, right, or you need to humble yourself.
And we got humbled by, in the worst way possible, I'll tell you what.
That is, that's not the way you want to get humbled.
That's not the way you want to get humbled.
But look, in the grand scheme of things, and I know people don't want to hear this, but
when you take a step back and you look at it, a lot of us at the beginning of the season,
right, hey, nine, three, 10 and two, eight, eight and four, hell of a successful season
for a first year in John Summerall.
We said that.
Now, that isn't making excuses because the expectations and the reality changed a bit
for us.
We've been talking about it.
At that point, for me, my adjustment came up like, look, it's playoff football team
right now.
Everybody's telling us like, hey, this is a playoff football team.
It looks the part.
It's flying on all cylinders.
Buster Faulkner's showing you why he went offensive coordinator of the year last year.
If you're able to put up 45 points a game, I don't really care if the defense kind of
has some holes.
It'll figure itself out.
Well, then you can put up 10.
I know we got 17, but that was kind of a trash time, so 10 points.
Okay, well, reality set in.
Reality set in.
Now, all of a sudden, this schedule looks daunting again.
All of a sudden, this schedule has a bit more of like, okay, like a little bit, it's sober
us up a little bit.
You're not going to just walk in, march through these teams, right?
Got South Carolina home, 12.45 kickoff.
It's a weird one.
New kickoff in the swamp.
It'll be electric.
It'll be a great time.
It's going to be the throwback, but they have to respond.
You've got a team that's backs against the wall with Shane Beamer.
They are deflated.
They're fighting for their life, right?
This is a Napier-esque team that you're walking at, walking into your arena.
You're the new coach with a lot of energy.
You've got to circle back the wagon, figure out what happened.
Where was the ball dropped?
You talked about being a player-led team, and maybe that's part of his madness.
Maybe that's part of the method to the madness of letting these guys go out there and go,
look, I trusted you to go do your thing, and here's what happened.
This is your team.
This is your day.
What happened?
Because he talks about it, right?
During the week, it's my thing, and then we pass to the team on Saturday.
Well, we pass to the team on Saturday, and they didn't want to go.
So now what do we do?
What do we figure out?
So what, now what?
You could probably run it back, right?
So what, now what?
You could use it again this week after the performance we had against Mizzou.
So look, I know everybody's looking to fire somebody, and what's blood in the water,
that's kind of how us Florida fans like to get up after it.
Again, still a long way to go, a lot of football left in this season.
I mean, if you look around the league, you know, any given week, you're going to get throttled.
Any given week, you're going to look like a hero.
I think that's the age of college football.
You look around, and you see, Mizzou lost to Mississippi State last week.
People were ready to sign Mizzou off, and now look, and they're back within a week.
Hell, FSU was dead and gone.
They took down Virginia.
That is college football.
It is the wild, wild west at its finest, and so you got to be able to shake it off.
Just like you shake off a win, you got to shake off a loss here.
So I've been turning the page every week.
I've told you all that.
Even we won, I've celebrated, we've earned it, we've done our thing.
But come Monday, I turn the page on the next week, and that's what we're doing here.
We're dwelling.
We're whining a little bit.
We're frustrated.
We have every right to do so.
We have every right to complain.
I got to give some flowers to people that were kind of, hey, yelling about defense,
and I kept, I was pushing them to the side.
I kind of kept overlooking at it, right?
But now it's out in the open.
You can't hide it anymore.
Again, I've got some rope, and I'll allow some other people to maybe give them some
more time before I fully kind of call the card on certain players and certain position
groups, but the cornerback and Brad White, their rope's gone.
They have burned it all, in my opinion, up until this point.
You can always earn it back, but right now, I can't defend it.
I can't support it.
I mean, I'll support it, but I can't defend it.
You put yourself into this predicament, so kind of put up or shut up.
The offensive line, they got a lot of flack all offseason, looked good for the
first four weeks, got humbled a little bit this week, and hopefully, you know,
they'll turn it around, but we'll see.
It's going to be a big response.
I'm excited, even more excited for this game than I was before because we're
really going to find out what this season's going to look like here, and we're
getting right into it.
I mean, it's college football.
We're in the middle of the season, and I'm excited, but let me know how you guys
are feeling.
Let me know in the chats.
Are you in the overreact camp?
Is it doom and gloom?
Is it, hey, that was scary, but let's get into it.
Next week, let me know in the comment section below.
We'll see you guys tonight live at Gators Summit, 8.30.
We'll talk about it some more.
We finally get to pick Dave and Allie Peake's brain tonight, and then, of course,
we'll see you guys tomorrow morning live at 7.15.
We'll recap another great week of college football.
The one thing is, week five's come and gone.
Or was it week four?
No, yeah.
Week five, we're already week six.
Like, that's, we're already halfway through, y'all.
Halfway through.
We'll see you boys in the next one.
Peace and love, baby.
