Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe discussion analyzes a college football team's struggle to translate talent into wins. The core issue is a disconnect between athletic ability and mental toughness, with many players lacking the fundamental skills and \"killer instinct\" required for the SEC. While coaching is deemed effective, a lack of player accountability and internal cohesion has hindered on-field performance.
I don't see it.
There are some guys that are just
not holding up their end of the bargain
when it comes to playing this game.
So the standard is clearly in the Somara household just fine.
Yeah, for sure.
Again, I kind of want to lean into this,
but do you feel that a complete overhaul needs to happen
in this next portal cycle?
Because I agree that, look,
I understand having some remnants left over from the past regime.
however you've had also eight months to you know try
to get rid of some of that and i understand
that it doesn't happen overnight
and happen over you know day over day but i know these guys were
damn sure putting their feet in the ground
and fighting their way to make sure they got paid a
proper you know salary to play this position
to be an SEC cornerback to be an SEC linebacker
that's all i think the fans are really upset about
is just the lack of passion the lack of
confidence like i understand you don't know how
to win i understand all these things i have i i've
got empathy for you i get it you haven't had
the best deal handed it doesn't that effort is oh it
should always be there that's all that i'm asking
for and that's where my frustration has came from
yeah but i don't i wouldn't say for everybody it's
a lack of effort i mean no but it's agreed
the problem is it feels like the majority of it
though right because i do feel there are some
pockets that are good but that's not enough
when you got 22 dudes playing yeah i won't i won't even
says the majority it is but when you have one it gets exposed
and it and it looks bad sure it it
looks bad but i won't say as i won't say it's
a lack of effort it's a a lack of confidence it's
a lack of attention to detail okay being young
and being confident in in who you are we we have
to remember this offseason we had
to talk about how much gains they made in this one period of
time well damn how did we be able to make
these amount of gains in this one period of time what
weren't you doing out of all that other time
to where you shouldn't where you couldn't have made
those gains and so now that they made these gains what
do you do with the gains you did all this
lifting and stuff but that means if they
were missing that much in the weight room how much
were they missing in the football classroom
and so now you're coming in and you're trying to
revamp this stuff or you and then you're teaching them
a whole new system both offense and defense
That's going to take a little bit of time,
but there's certain things that I see
on tape that you just can't stand for.
You know what I mean?
Well, I could deal with a couple mistakes,
but there are certain things that you just can't stand for,
and I pulled a couple of them today, but that are still happening,
and you're going to have to eventually, because it's being taught,
eventually you're going to have to get new people.
It's just what it is what it is.
You're going to have to find some players that can get the job done
or what you're asking that's not going to be timid,
that's not going to be shy, that's going to be ready to go out there
and bust some heads.
You know what I mean?
Whenever defensively, it's a look that you should see from your defense
where everybody's confident in what they're doing,
where the D-line is high-fiving each other,
they're communicating, talking about what they're going to do
and how they're going to smash the person in front of you.
Until I see that, I can tell it's just
almost every man trying to do his job,
but unsure of what he's supposed to do
because we're not firing off the ball
how we should. We're not hitting people
in the mouth. We're not tackling how we
should because we're just trying
to get there while we're really trying to run through
somebody. I don't believe that's happening right
now. So maybe it's not necessarily
like you're pushing back on it. It's not a lack
of effort. It could just be lack of
confidence with a lack of
on top of confusion and so which
causes you to move slow essentially because you're
just you're thinking you're not playing
you're not doing which falls back on what
We were kind of talking about coaching, right?
Like, not having these guys prepared.
Look, I have a hard time, and I'm not trying to beat anybody down,
but the excuse of Young and these things,
I've heard it for three years.
We've said it.
I've said it myself.
I've been on that side.
I've been supportive of it.
And, look, I'm not here to can anybody.
Like, I want to make that very clear.
Like, I'm not mad at necessarily the coaching staff
or really even the players.
That's why I kind of went on this tangent because I think both people,
both parties are kind of put into a, you know, a sticky situation.
coach is in a situation
and the players are obviously dealing with the adversity of having
to overcome certain things
so you know you're trying to make this marriage happen as best as
you can but again it's i'm hoping we could see again
a transition that was i think what was
alarming to me and you and i said it it
was how it looked you got to turn it around and and from
the from the snap it just was the same thing
and i'm like how was what how how are you not at least
just ignorantly confident for at least three seconds.
But that's why you see what you saw.
You see Coach Chapman getting with LJ and telling him, hey, show me.
Show me.
You know what I mean?
I know you can do it.
I've watched you do it.
Go out there and show me.
That's why you get Summerall saying, hey, in the film room,
in front of everybody, hey, is this what we teach you in practice?
And everybody say no.
well how do you get to the game
and just still don't do what i've been showing you to do it's
hard to blame the coach when i know you've
been coaching him do the right thing but then he gets
into the game and does whatever he wants
to do it's either he doesn't have it up here yeah the
talent could be there but if he's not mentally locked
in and focused you can try to drill that
but at some point it has to turn on for the player on his own
or you got to find somebody else that
can get it but our problem is the people
that we depending on to get it done that's not doing it
we can't put the next guy in to get it done
because he's not as good as you i expect you
to get it done so now i gotta start hand feeding you
and giving you all these extra things on the
sideline which is really taking away from me coaching
the in the big picture but if this is
what i have to do for right now i'll try to piece it together
but that i'm not doing that moving
forward. Do you think there's a little bit of
like coaches like, it's like
you're going to have to figure this out.
And almost kind of like, look,
I'm going to be here next year, regardless if we go
4-8 or 8-4. You're going to have to.
I'm going to get my teeth kicked in. I'm fully
aware of what I signed up for. If you
want to be here and play for the Orange and Blue next year,
you're going to have to figure it out.
You're kind of on the same side.
Go ahead. It was very
telling for him to say, hey, we
were in meeting rooms and I said,
is this what we're teaching you at practice? He said,
this at a press conference
and the guys said no coach this is not what you're teaching us well
okay obviously coaching ain't the problem
if everybody you're saying without saying it
you're like this there's some guys on this
that on this team that either he said it well i
know but you're i'm trying to get you to say he's
the head coach i'll say there's some guys that
just not holding up their end of the bargain
when it comes to playing this game you can have all the
talent in the world brother
but that doesn't mean nothing if you go out there and wet the bed on
saturday yeah you could be an all-star at practice
because people telling you what to do and where to
be in that game when it's loud and it's on the line
and people are yelling you may miss my
communication with my hand signal telling you where you need
to be depth-wise but if you're
a junior or senior i needed you to have known
that before i got here you had three four years
five years to learn that before i get here
and and it looks good in practice but then i'm realizing
And, hey, when we get to these games, you guys are falling apart.
Congratulations, boys and girls, because
this show is brought to you by PrizePicks.
And I congratulate you because you finally made it
to college football season, boys and girls.
Yes, that is right.
You can now get in on the action on PrizePicks with college football.
It is time to get up after it.
This week, we're rocking and rolling, feeling pretty good.
But our guy, Micah Alejandro from Hawaii.
Then we've got, of course, King Miller
with USC getting some rush touchdowns.
I know we don't like FSU around these parks,
but I think Ashton Daniels is going to use
a little legs in this upcoming week
for some nice football to get him more in his rushing yards.
You can now get in on the action

Use the great features that PrizePicks has to offer.
PrizePicks, it is good to be right.
So even like Dallas, yeah,
Dallas Wilson said it's not coaching either.
And again, these are the hot voices.
He's not the only one that said it.
Well, like I just said a minute ago,
there are hot spots that are clearly,
you can tell their body language,
their energy, their effort.
It's much different than others, right?
And so there is definitely a group of guys
that have 100% bought in and are believing in it.
And I think that's why we saw the Easton Royal commit.
You're having conversations with Dallas Wilson,
who is a five-star stud that, look, his career is on the line.
I mean, it's not a secret.
So if you've got a guy that has completely bought in
and still kind of pushing the envelope of like,
this thing can work.
Unfortunately, we just have guys that are going through the motions
that truly just don't believe or want to buy into it.
And either you're just going to get your teeth kicked in
because here's the reality of it.
It's bad, but I don't have anywhere else to go.
okay because you continue to show me in practice
that you can perform you can do it but for
whatever reason when it comes time to put out
on the football field you're not performing and so
some people mentally just don't have it yeah they have all
the skill in the world they can fly around
and everything you get on that field on saturday
and you don't have it here's where i also think
not physically or anything else mentally some
people just don't get it some people don't
understand the game they're great athletes they
probably put you one-on-one in high school
they probably told you what to do on every play
when you get to college we don't have
at a certain level we can't keep doing
that throughout the whole game maybe him saying
we don't have veteran depth this you know we'll put
the 10 we'll put together simple hat back on
i don't think this is a tinfoil hat as it may appear
but him saying hey we don't have veteran
depth well yes maybe these guys are old they are juniors
and seniors but i mean veteran depth like
they had they know how to play the game at an elite level
and so what he's saying is like none
these cats were developed i walked into essentially
a bunch of high school yeah a bunch of high school
kids that yes they're getting paid like five
stars they look like stars five stars
they sound like five stars but they ain't five stars
because they haven't been developed
fundamentally with the game yeah
and no one down the distance he spoke about hey we need more
situational awareness we need to know down the distance
when the first game came and guys are
playing off in this third and three
and you eight yards off the ball, brother,
I should have had to tell you to scoot up in college.
This might have just solved it for me in my head.
This is how crazy my head is, guys.
You think I'm kidding when I do these things.
This is not an act.
Ask Steve.
It's a vicious psycho up there.
It's two mentalities on this team, Culi said.
And that's exactly what it is.
We have a civil war happening on the football field.
Yeah.
You got to weed it out.
we just didn't have time you've got two different personalities
if we had a portal you know meshing
together and that's why it's stuck right you've got there
is no cohesion and it's not necessarily
on purpose i don't feel like i feel like there's like
this full-on war like like you don't
necessarily see it or hear it it's like Kobe you know what i mean it's
a silent killer you don't
know what's happening but you have you literally have
a group of killers and then a group of not
killers on the outside everybody looks like they're ready to go
but internally it's not it's
not clicking and and that's i think that may
be where my conspiracy theory because you literally
you can't understand it because you guys looked
apart it sounds like you should be it i've seen
it be it at times but there's half of this group
and look if half of it ain't working the whole
thing breaks the only strongest and weakest link boss
so you look we talked about it today you're
gonna have to have i mean there it's gonna
be anarchy i think at the end of the year i think
it's going to be a wild portal season.
I'm sure
it is going to be a wild portal season.
But I'm not afraid of
the portal season knowing the coach
that we have in place and his ability
to galvanize people that
really want to play football and want to play
for that type of coach.
Real killers
want to play for a coach
like that. You know what I mean?
You want to go cut it loose.
I said it in y'all's Summer Raw chat.
we recruited when one of the last regimes here i don't like drop
the man name we recruited high
character people but they they didn't have killer instinct brother
when i told you when i went to
the first d-line barbecue i told
those guys i really literally feel like i probably could
slap one of y'all and y'all ain't gonna do nothing yeah
y'all ain't gonna jump me or nothing
they're getting closer to that bond
and and that and that fierceness that we need but it's still
some pieces that that that that that are not just there just yet
and our coach came in late we had
to pick the scraps we had to get um but i believe he's he's going
to get it right we just got to get
i mean there's he's what he what he proved to me
in this this conference and the adjustments that
i saw that he's willing to do what it takes to win now
but he's not willing to abandon all the
future plan we're gonna do some we're gonna put some wrinkles
in to try to win now and help the
guys that are here because they need to help
and we need to win right we can't just keep getting
blown out that that can't happen
so i'll do these minor adjustments but i can't abandon everything
that we have in place i can't abandon the whole defense
and just go to this one thing we can try
to add some wrinkles here and there
but we just can't abandon what we want to do knowing we're
recruiting future players to come do the things we know they can do.
