Canucks make a surprising move... This has Major implications
Oct 15, 2026
The Vancouver Canucks make a surprising move
as Manny Malhotra reveals the Canucks lines
heading into their next game after making a total shakeup
on the back end and a huge surprising move
on the power play. We're going
to break down everything you need to know on the new lines
that Manny Malhotra is pushing
into the Canucks next game including updates on players coming
into the lineup and more on Filip Petr as he returns to the ice.
We're going to break down
everything you need to know on these updates
and so much more but before we get into it I just want
to give a huge shout out to everyone watching we're trying
to reach our goal of 10 000 subscribers
and we're inching closer and closer
so if you're part of the 260 people watching this right now
and you haven't hit that free subscribe button make sure
to go down and do it means absolute
world and i'll keep you up to date with everything
to do around Vancouver Canucks hockey and let's
just dive straight into it today where the Canucks dropped
a snippet on back skating with the squad
as Filip Petr joined the Canucks on Long Island
as they continue their road games now
looking at Filip Petr not at this point is he in the lineup
but it is awesome to see that
Filip Petr is back on the ice and practicing with the Canucks
and hopefully in the near future
we get to see the forward rejoin this team in a full practice
and get into the lineup because again a
dynamic player that was outstanding during
the preseason before going down with an injury i
want to know your guys thoughts
on Filip Petr where does he go into this lineup when he does
return let me know your thoughts on that below
but let's just dive straight into an update coming
through with the Vancouver Canucks where Zee Boyum loses
not only his power play role but gets
demoted within this lineup now with Zeev Boyum a very young player
which I want to put as a big
emphasis on this because a young guy
that's pushing through has struggled since signing
his contract and going into the season with the Canucks.
Boyum dropped to the third pairing with Shen tonight,
tough learning curve in his first
pairing even with Hironi.
Boyum is a team high 10 giveaways by blue liners,
one hit, six blocks, one assist, and
a minus four rating.
Now diving back to, of course,
this offseason when we seen Ryan Johnson sign Zeev Boyum to
this contract, he said, we understand
the first couple of years is a bad contract, but
Zeev Boyum is one of the top young defensemen in the NHL
and he's going to continue to grow
and growing is a big thing to look at when it comes to Zeev Boyum
because again still so young
sitting at 20 years old not even 21 yet Zeev Boyum has struggled
to start the year logging 22 and a
half minutes six shots on net one even strength point
no power play points hence the demotion
out of the top unit with the replacement being
an incredible piece we're going to dive into that
later but looking at Zeev Boyum
and his ice time over the stretch of course eating a lot of minutes
on that top pairing over the last five games 22 minutes
and 40 seconds this season average
just about that but looking at the minutes versus Carolina
and the New Jersey Devils two losses the
Canucks took Zeev Boyum was at and above the average of 22
and a half minutes over those games
And the struggles continued from season start into this point.
And with this, Manny Malhotra is now giving a reset to Zeev Boyum.
And of course, the Canucks team
when they're looking to build on the power play.
Now looking at Zeev Boyum in the 26-27 season so far,
one hit which is ranked 253rd in the NHL, blocked shots the 119th,
10, 10 giveaways, which is the 18th most in the NHL.
Zbynek Myropas again is so young and I'm not struggling
or worried about Zeev Boyum making the push
and we see people talking even Zeev himself coming
into the season I definitely want to
take a step into a bigger role this season
which he was catapulted into and this is going to be a
cause of growing pains for sure
and again going into the development and Zeev Boyum we can see
Manny Malhotra we acknowledge that he's young
and it's going to take time now of course Zeev Boyum
coming out of the top unit will be replaced with someone
and it dives into a comments where I seen
Jonathan Lekkermäki needs to get bigger he's got a great shot
and guess what Canucks fans that
shot's going to be headlined on the top unit
as we see Jonathan Lekkermäki who's having an
incredible season get moved on to power play one now
of course with Zeev Boyum giving him a reset
it opens up a new opportunity for Jonathan Lekkermäki
to move into the power play one
position after already starting on the top line with Pettersson
and now Jager Ross which is
our most productive line by far Marco Rossi moved
to PP2 Tom Vilander moves to PP2 as well and
Zeev Boyum is off the power play units now
of course Filip Hronek was the defenseman on that
top pairing we see Marco Rossi moved down
to the second unit with Tom Vilander stepping in as well
with Zeev coming off now with Jonathan Lekkermäki it opens up
an opportunity for Jonathan Lekkermäki
to continue his development
and honestly prove a lot of people wrong now when looking at Lekarmaki
of course bringing that goal scoring mentality the strengths of him
so far this season efficient
production when it's a bigger offensive role
is worth testing the points per 60 is at 3.22 in the
89th percentile fewer giveaways
so far supporting case for more puck touches and of course a small
sample size giving Manny Malhotra now the position
to run him on not only the first power play unit
and on the top line but now getting a look at once
was hence our top prospect and of course a lot of
this hinges on Jonathan Lekarmaki's shot
and how he has been playing since getting the promotion
now Jonathan Lekarmaki
and where the shots are coming from it's a bit of all over the ice
but we know that slot shot is his favorite
of course with a goal coming through there
outside the goal there as well
but the one-timer is something that stands out the 20% shooting
will end up dropping throughout this season
but the production from Jonathan Lekarmaki yes
you can lean into a lot of this coming from Pedersen
and his success especially on the top
unit but now looking at the top unit and breaking a bit up
which was struggling at chances but of
course the penalty kill is the biggest question
with this Jonathan Lekarmaki spoke about how
the transition's been easy during training camp
with Manny I know Manny I know the system so I'm
more prepared now. Now Jonathan Lekarmaki played quite
a bit under Manny Malhotra in the AHL,
gaining trust, especially during the playoffs.
We've seen him scratched at one point, coming
back and scoring two huge goals in a game versus
the Checkers in the finals. Jonathan Lekarmaki
is continuing his growth,
but it's not only him where Liam Oliver speaks and said he's an
unbelievably skilled player. He has a great shot.
What we know with Jonathan Lekarmaki and the
changes coming through, the Canucks are a young team.
There's changes coming to the defense,
appearance with Zeb Boyle being demoted
to the bottom pairing with the top units there's a lot
of young guys getting the chance
but this is a learning curve and a great moment for Manny
Malhotra to get a look at a lot of the guys Paul Cotter
who was slated as a fourth liner has already
jumped into that second line we know
that Jonathan Lekaraki has cemented himself on the top unit now
with this you're giving a chance to DPD
who has been incredible the goal versus the Rangers
incredible and his other goal this season what we're seeing is
a young developing team getting
their feet wet and trying to figure out what works
is Zeb Boyle going to be the third pairing
defenseman of the future hell no he's going
to get back up on that first pairing and the power play
at some point but now with this giving
the opportunities for guys to make the push DPD
getting his confidence fans i want to know
your thoughts on everything around this team of course
struggling out of the gate while winning the game versus Edmonton
and then of course making the push
beating the Calgary Flames we love to see it losing
to the Rangers what are your thoughts on
this lineup heading into the game with this mirror lining
is starting between the pipes kevin
Lankham struggles continue
but with the Canucks again we're looking at the first overall pick
and not making the playoffs
so at the end of the day enjoy this game watch the development of the
young guys let me know your thoughts
on absolutely everything down below including the Philip Pietro
update because we love to see it let me know
your thoughts on everything down in the comments i'm
slowly getting over this flu
so sorry for my voice take care Canucks fans and i'll see you in the
next one let's get it up tonight
