Lawyers are working for free today in Hoppog,
helping veterans with legal issues.
Our Logan Crawford has the story.
Veterans like Norman Sellers from Wyandanch
are getting free legal help at the Suffolk County Bar Association.
I came here to look into wills, estate planning.
They were very knowledgeable
and they helped me go in the right direction.
The Pro Bono Project is an annual event
providing free legal services to veterans.
Lawyers donate their time to help
with litigation and court appearances,
providing advice and counsel, and research and writing.
They need help. They need legal help.
Going out, finding a lawyer, paying a lawyer, explaining the problem.
Costs a lot of money for most people.
Attorney George Palmer says he's in his seventh year volunteering
for the Pro Bono event for vets.
He specializes in matrimony and family law.
These are people that have volunteered for our country.
They have done an amazing amount of work that a lot of us either can't
or aren't willing to do to protect our freedoms.
And for any veteran in Suffolk who didn't get a chance to come today,
you can still work with the Suffolk County Bar Association after
the event for any legal help you might need.
Call the Bar Association here. We will always have a response.
Through our Veterans Committee, with a qualified lawyer,
to get that person through that problem.
Sellers hopes other veterans take advantage of this program.
Hopefully I can continue to inspire other veterans to come out
and take advantage of this opportunity like myself.
