Weekend rain in N.S. to weaken by Sunday

Unfortunately, I mean, we've had a great run of weekends,
but that comes to an end
as we look at this stream of subtropical moisture coming
from the Gulf of Mexico up the eastern
seaboard and right into our backyard.
That is already underway.
It's going to continue for Friday night,
continue for Saturday, continue for Saturday night,
and then finally taper off from west to east
as we move through the early hours of Sunday
and into Sunday afternoon for Cape Breton.
All in all, it looks like we're going
to be in the 30 to 60 millimeter range across
most of the province, but it looks like we'll
also see some pockets that do push up towards 60
to 80 millimeters in some localized areas, especially the eastern shore
into the Cape Breton region,
also in through the valley into the Cobequid Bay area.
But more than the totals, by the time we get to Sunday,
it's the rainfall rates that I want to direct your attention to.
10 to 20 to 25 millimeters per hour is possible
with these heavier downpours and thunderstorms.
When the rainfall is falling that heavily, then things back up.
Storm drains back up.
We get some localized flooding in lower exposed areas.
The water pools on the roads,
which makes for unsafe driving conditions.
So that's what I really want to direct your attention to,
especially for Saturdays when
we're going to be seeing these heavier pockets
of rain that will add up quickly.
And so, yes, exercise caution if you're
on the roads this weekend and make sure that
you've got those storm drains cleared.
We will again dry out a little bit
with some lingering showers into Sunday.
Full forecast is coming up.
