Tony Award-winning musical sensation,
Jersey Boys, back on stage now in North Texas.
Good morning to Harry Sperduto and Owen McCready.
Harry, you got the cowboy boot memo. I like it.
I do, yes.
Already acting like he's from Texas. I love it. I love it.
This show is the behind-the-scenes kind of of the music, true story.
Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
This is a story that has been told now for two decades,
the Jersey Boys.
But boy, it just continues to resonate with audiences.
What is it about this performance that you love so much, this show?
Yeah, I mean, I think there's so many elements people can connect with.
I mean, the songs are so iconic.
And I think even many generations know one of them, many of them.
So I think hearing those live all the time.
I also think just the fact that this story is real is so crazy,
where these guys came
from and where they end up in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
It's such a cool experience to see happen in a matter of two
and a half hours.
And I just think they love that.
Owen, does it change things for you that it's based on a true story?
I mean, I would think like you're as an actor,
you're like, okay, I'm playing a character.
But then when you're playing a character that was like real,
like in real life, it changes
things.
To the pressure, for sure.
I mean, just for example, we played in New Brunswick
a couple weeks ago, and I met the son of the man that I'm playing.
Oh.
They told me at intermission that he was in the audience,
and I was like, the pressure doesn't get any bigger than that.
Yeah. Where are you from originally?
I'm from Australia.
Do you talk with that accent on stage?
I try not to. I try my best not to.
How do you do that?
We get to work with an amazing dialect coach,
his name's Charlie Layton, and he tells us
when we're making the right vowel sounds,
when we're not, you know, when I'm slipping
into my old Australian habits.
Say welcome to Texas, like without the accent.
Just an Australian accent?
No, like a normal accent, like a American,
like a Jersey boy, like a Jersey boy.
Welcome to Texas.
What about like a Jersey boy accent?
Welcome to Texas.
Yeah, okay, wow, that's interesting.
That's fantastic.
You know, one of the things I think people love about this show
is it's hard to stay in your seat
because you've got so many big songs, big hits.
Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry, Walk Like a Man,
Can't Take My Eyes Off of You.
Um, do you, can you see, can you feel the audience, like,
okay, that night the audience was really into the music,
or this night is kind of different, like,
can you feel the vibe of the audience when you're up on stage?
Absolutely. I think the energy is something
that you definitely tune into every night.
There are audiences that seem less enthusiastic,
but we, I mean, Harry can confirm this too.
By the end, it seems like everyone
is pretty much on their feet every night.
Yeah.
I think one of my favorite parts
While we're performing the song specifically
is seeing the audience reactions.
Usually the lights are so bright, to be honest,
we can't see far at all, but I can see a couple
rows and when we're performing like Big
Girls Don't Cry, our big three medley.
You could really see so many smiles on the faces,
and that always inspires my performances every night,
to see that they're enjoying it as much as I am.
Yeah, this is the 20th anniversary of this show.
I know you guys got to go
to the Stockyard Sundance Square, would you think?
Thumbs up?
Oh, yeah.
two thumbs up
It's my second trip there, and yeah, it's a great place.
You've got to check it out if you haven't.
Oh, I love it.
