Deep Ellum shooting victim drover herself to hospital

Investigators say surveillance videos showcased in Fox 4's trackdown led to the arrest of a suspect in the Deep Ellum shootings. Hello, everybody. I'm Heather Hayes. I'm Steve Egers. It's 9 o'clock. The suspect, David Yancey, now facing seven counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He will likely face federal charges as well. Police say Yancey turned himself in after this video was broadcast. Three separate shootings early Sunday in Deep Ellum left four people dead and more than a dozen injured. Fox 4's David Centenari spoke to one victim. Victim who was shot but survived, David. Yeah, we're learning more about some of the victims that one young woman I spoke to did not immediately know she was shot. She ended up driving herself to a hospital. Everyone was having fun. Then things kind of just went. Diaria House was celebrating Halloween in Deep Ellum. When one of three separate shootings broke out. It was so much, it was so much. The 22 year old, one of dozens of bystanders running for safety, dodging countless bullets. I just kind of jumped to the ground and then I rolled around a little trying to see if like. I was shocked, I didn't know. Video shows Howes rolling on the ground in pain. She says she did not immediately know she was struck by gunfire. How's she doing? Howes says she did not have time to wait for first responders. So you drove yourself all the way to the hospital after being shot? Yes, I was trying to catch my breath, but that was hard. And at that point, this side of my body was starting to shut down. She made it to the hospital parking lot. I honed my horn, and then I tried to get out the car. And then at that point, I was busy and confused. She says she's still recovering from a collapsed lung and several broken ribs. It's just really sad that we aren't able to go out and have fun and not worry about not coming home. Four people were killed, 15 others wounded, in three separate shootings in Deep Ellum on Halloween. No one has been arrested for the shootout that injured Howes, but on Thursday, authorities announced charges in one of the other shootings. David Yancey, a convicted felon with a lengthy rap sheet, who's on probation and had an active warrant. He's back out here, causing violence. Investigators credit Fox 4 with airing surveillance images during track down, leading Yancey to turn himself in. And I wanna thank some of the reporting out here, Mr. Rab and others. For highlighting that video, the videos and the great tips captured Mr. Yancy pulling a handgun from his waistband, very deliberately I might add, premeditated I might add. You see him cocking a chamber in the round and then placing it back in his waistband. Mr. Yancy pulled that handgun out and fired 11 rounds indiscriminately into a crowded street. Yancy allegedly shot seven people, all survived. And it's only by the grace of God and the immediate response of our great first responders that we are not standing here today talking about seven more funerals. We already have four. I'm very grateful that my protection is always with me. House hopes to be released from the hospital in a couple of days. She calls it a blessing. I made it. That's my biggest thing. Being able to talk about it today is the greatest takeaway from it all because there are some people who were not fortunate. As we've reported, both uniformed and undercover federal agents will be patrolling Deep Ellum with police for the foreseeable future. Investigators are asking anyone with tips to come forward and they're asking any suspects who are out there to just turn themselves in.
