Investigators are crediting surveillance video
for helping them arrest a suspect in
the Deep Ellum shootings on Halloween weekend.
We showcase that footage on Trackdown. Fox
Fox 4's Dan Godwin is live near the area where
the shootings happened. To explain, Dan.
Well, Paige, investigators still have a ways
to go before they're able to identify and arrest
all of the people responsible for these shootings,
but they do have one suspect in custody.
Four people were killed on Halloween,
15 others wounded in three separate shootings here in
Deep Ellum. The suspect who's in custody is David Yancey,
a convicted felon with a lengthy rap sheet
who's on probation and had an active warrant.
Investigators credit Fox 4 and Sean Rabb's
trackdown series for airing surveillance images
that led Yancey to turn himself in.
They say Yancey shot...
Seven people, all of them survived.
And I wanna thank some of the reporting out here, Mr. Rabb and others.
For highlighting that video,
the videos and the great tips captured Mr. Yancy pulling a handgun
from his waistband, very deliberately I might add,
premeditated I might add.
You see him cocking a chamber in the round
and then placing it back in his waistband.
Mr. Yancy pulled that handgun out
and fired 11 rounds indiscriminately into a crowded street.
I was struck in my back and
The bullet didn't come out so it's in my rib right here
and that's why I have three or four broken ribs on this side.
Daria Howes is also recovering
from a collapsed lung after being shot that night.
The 22-year-old was one of dozens of bystanders running for safety,
dodging countless bullets.
No one has been arrested for the shootout that injured Howes.
David Yancey is facing seven counts
of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
He will likely face federal charges as well.
Daria Howes, meanwhile,
hopes to be released from the hospital in a few days.
Reporting live in Deep Ellum, Dan Godwin on Good Day.
