Deep Ellum Halloween shooting suspect turns himself in

Dallas police say surveillance video showcased on Fox 4's track down led to the arrest of a suspect in the deadly Deep Ellum shootings. Good evening, I'm Steve Eager. Hi everybody, I'm Heather Hayes. David Yancey is now facing seven counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The shootings on Halloween night killed four people and wounded more than a dozen others. Authorities say Yancey turned himself in after the surveillance video went public. Fox 4's Sean Rabb live now with more on the investigation and that video that It did its job, Sean. Yeah, thank you. We are here in a parking lot at 2630 Main Street. This is where the news conference was held by Dallas Police Chief Daniel Como, the head of the U.S. Attorney's Office here, FBI, DEA et al. Just a couple of hours ago. Because of the big break in the case, this is the first person arrested who actually fired a gun and shot someone Halloween night. We showed you the video of this suspect first on Trackdown Wednesday. Let's take you back to that video one more time. A person caught on video who just openly fired indiscriminately in this parking lot at 2600 Main and Goodlatimer in Deep Evans. Seven people were shot. Thankfully, they survived. David Yancey is the man who's now in jail and facing seven counts of aggravated assault, deadly weapon, mass shooting. Also with an outstanding warrant and he now will be charged federally as a felon in possession of a firearm he's been dealt with before by local authorities. Within 30 minutes of track down airing, police were in contact with David Yancey. And I wanna thank some of the reporting out here, Mr. Rabb and others for highlighting that video because the work that you do actually brings people to us. You hold us accountable when you need to hold us accountable, but you're also arms of law enforcement in some way because that video helped solve this crime. Mr. Yancey pulled that handgun out and fired 11 rounds indiscriminately into a crowded street. And I wanna show you this from the complaint, which you'll have copies of. So here is the photo here of Mr. Yancey just firing off. You could see how many Halloween folks are out there having a great time and their night Turned into a nightmare. Now, four people were killed by gunfire Halloween night here in Deep Ellum. Four innocent victims, unarmed people killed by gunfire. Among them, 20-year-old Isaiah Bowling, a father of a 2-year-old and a 1-year-old. I spoke with his broken-hearted mother, Flora Perez, today. He was a loving, caring father. He was an amazing son. He was a hard worker. He was a working member of society. It's not like he was some... What do you say to those people who did it or those who know and haven't said anything to detectives? We're asking people to speak up. If you know something, say something. It's not about snitching. It's not about nothing. We can't save his life, but we can help get justice for him. We all can. Isaiah's funeral is set for next Friday, a week from tomorrow, November 13th. The family does have a verified GoFundMe page. Now, there were a lot of people who did the right thing in getting David Yancey to turn himself in last night. Folks saw it in the community. His family members saw it, even. Convinced him to go ahead and call Dallas police, which he did. He told them where he was located and he was waiting for officers when they showed up again within 30 minutes of that track down segment airing. And today, the U.S. attorney and the police chief both imploring other people who were down here firing guns, turn yourself in. Make it a little bit lenient on yourself by doing so. We have video. We have still images. Go ahead and turn yourself in. And quickly, I want to thank The viewers, the folks that watch us make Track Down happen because of viewers, we have now had 242 arrests through Track Down. Excellent, Sean. Question, I didn't hear a murder charge there for Yancey. Is that still a possibility or do they think others fired some of those deadly shots? Do we know? So what we know is this man is charged with seven counts of aggravated assault, deadly weapon mass shooting. Where he was and where he was doing the shooting. Right now, the people who police believe are his victims, all of those at this point are surviving. So the people who have lost their lives were shot by other people. There were three crime scenes, at least, down here, hundreds of rounds fired. There are other people who took the lives of a 21-year-old, a 25-year-old, a 28-year-old, all who were innocent victims, along with Isaiah Bowling. None of those folk had any kinds of weapons.
