Investigation continues into deadly house fire in Sunset Park; 2 e-bikes removed from home

This morning, I can tell you there is a police car just outside of that Sunset Park home here as it's now been gated and closed off. This is as the FDNY investigates what led up to that home being engulfed in flames on Thursday, killing six people and injuring nine others. Now, that loss certainly being felt by the community here who bore witness to that tragedy. Now take a look. This is that chilling scene of smoke and flames that many neighbors say they were woken up by just after 1.30 a.m. on Thursday. FDNY says upon arrival at the two-story home on 58th Street, they were met with heavy fire and people trapped inside. Four people were rescued, with two of them later dying in the hospital and four others found dead inside the home. FDNY says the fire also caused part of a stairway inside that house to collapse. Neighbors watched in shock as body bags were carried out throughout the afternoon, but the concern only worsened as two e-bikes were also later removed. It's unexpected, you know. You don't know when you're going to, you know, when you're going to pass. I don't wish this on my worst enemy, you know. And take a look. This is now what remains of that home completely charred. This is despite finding those e-bikes inside. FDNY has not determined that they were the cause of the fire. Now in the meantime, we know that the intensity of those flames also extended to a nearby home, displacing eight people. Now that's the latest here in Sunset Park. Jonathan Calixto, News 12.
