For families still picking up the pieces after devastating flooding
in Brevard County, a hot meal
can make a big difference.
And neighbors came together today to hand out hundreds of those
meals to help people who lost everything they own.
Bailey Bockover joins us live now in Palm
Bay with the community really stepping up to help, Bailey.
Jack, agencies here in Brevard handed out
tons of meals to those affected
and many residents we spoke to just expressed how grateful they were.
Hot meals packed and handed out by Palm Bay firefighters.
The Red Cross supplied the meals
and the city's Tony Rosa Community Center opened their doors.
But for Jeremy Spikes, picking up this dinner took swallowed pride.
I don't really like asking for help.
Like I humbled myself and I was like,
you know what, I really do need help, you know,
and this really shows the strength of this community.
Spikes isn't alone.
With some people now having to rebuild their lives after the floods,
dinner here is bridging
a desperate gap.
Julie Angulo came to grab hot boxes not just for herself,
but for her mother's entire block.
Her 78-year-old mom had to escape
the rising water in a neighbor's canoe.
I actually came here to get food for the neighbors.
There's a lot of elderly on my mom's street.
My mom's been there over 30 years.
Relief crews are now racing to make sure no flood victim goes hungry.
The Red Cross says the demand keeps climbing.
Over 600 to 700 meals have been provided
with the help of our partners, of course,
and we're able to feed folks
who need a hot meal if they're not able to eat at home.
If you or someone you know is still in need of a hot meal,
you can return tomorrow during lunchtime.
However, a set time has not yet been announced.
