Well, the Dylan Larkin vs. Red Wings trade saga does continue tonight.
The star player's banner once graced
the outside of LCA, and now it's gone.
Fox 2's Lauren Edwards joins us live
with fan reaction to all the drama.
It's been a lot for us Wings fans.
Absolutely, Rube.
You know, it was a 2-1 loss, though,
tonight for the Red Wings against the Vegas Golden Knights.
But it seems like there's something else that's lost as well.
Typically, when you walk in, you see a banner that's up there.
Dylan Larkin's banner.
But clearly, it is not there.
We spoke with several fans.
They had a lot to say about him and all the saga.
Trying
to keep it clean.
I mean...
If they would have treated the team right,
then he would have wanted to stay.
But...
They screwed up, so he wanted to go, and I don't blame him.
Wherever he goes, I hope he's happy.
He'll probably do great, great other
things than what he did when he was here.
So I wish him the best wherever he ends up.
Actually, I think a lot of it has to do with Larkin on this one.
You know, he wants to play with his American buddies, Olympic buddies.
And so he doesn't want to be here in Detroit.
So can I swear?
Yeah.
And that's the sentiment of a number of Red Wings fans like
these guys with the bags over their heads.
Now the season started with fans booing Dylan Larkin
because of all the off ice drama from requesting a trade
and wanting out to getting his sea drift away.
Then there was that mysterious.
upper body injury that kept him from playing.
Then he returned for a few games. Then on October 29th,
he informed the team that he won't be skating at all.
So the Red Wings suspended him without pay. Sports journalist Bob Duff,
who's been covering the Red Wings for over 40 years, has been keeping
a close eye on this and shared his thoughts on how all of this.
Well I think, you know,
he's in his rights to do what he's doing, and players get a no
trade clause so they can exercise that option,
so I don't really have a problem with that.
I think the problem I have with it is you signed
an eight year deal, the franchise made
a big commitment to you as their future leader.
And a heavily front-loaded contract, too,
so he's gotten the majority of his money already.
And now you're leaving, and you're basically leaving
the team that committed to you high and dry.
So, yeah, that banner is gone.
We don't know when it was taken down.
It seems like one moment it was here,
and one moment it's over the next.
It's not.
And if you've been following the website, LarkinLosses.com,
they have been tracking literally
minute by minute how much he's losing.
And that website states that he's losing about $41,000 a day.
And, you know, that's a lot, clearly a lot for all of us.
But coming up on The Edge, we ask those same fans, you know,
is it time to hit the panic button?
And you'll get that answer because.
It may not be, may not be.
For now, reporting live here in Detroit, Lauren Edwards, Fox 2 News.
