Buena Vista Social Club star Karmine Alers performs live in studio

Welcome back on this Thursday morning. There is a musical on stage now in Fair Park, and it shares the vibrant music and history of 1950s and 1990s Savannah, Cuba. Yes, Buena Vista Social Club. We've got Carmine Ehlers here right now. This is the first Broadway show in two languages. So you guys sing in Spanish, but then there's dialogue in English, and you're telling the story of this music group, right? Yes, and the beauty of it all is that you don't need to speak Spanish. It's a beautiful show about love, loss and rebirth, and then the music just sort of supports it and you just feel all the Cuban rhythms and you just want to get up and dance. This thing's really got some rave reviews. New York Times, Buena Vista Social Club bringing the thrill of music making to Broadway, Variety giving it rave reviews. Is this sort of validation for all the hard work that you guys do? I think it is. I think we, you know, we feel it on stage. I think that the audiences feel it, and that's the response that we get, and so it's kind of like that kind of feeling. Everyone feels good about the show, and they walk out, and I think it is a story about For everyone, it's a story for everyone. That's beautiful, yeah, what's it like touring doing a show like this? How do you deal with this? It's great because we have such a great cast and crew and company that we are all really supportive of each other right now on this. These guys look pretty nice behind you. I mean, we just, we have a great time on stage and we have a great time off stage. So that's really important because we're living with each other basically at this time. Oh, I bet, I bet. So yeah, you guys can get into a groove, you kind of get in that zone. Yes, we do. And it's all about, I imagine you guys are all friends performing together too, so. Yes, a lot of people knew each other also before this, so like performing with each other. Yeah, that makes a difference too, because you can kind of really gel and Absolutely and then we also a lot of us speak Spanish so we get to speak our own language as well like that. Okay.
