Police cracking down on dangerous driving in south Ottawa
Nov 6, 2026
A driver's pulled over on Limebank Road
for going more than 30 kilometers over the speed limit
and gets another ticket for his tinted window,
part of the traffic blitz in South Ottawa.
Inspector Ali Togral says, like the rest of the city,
South Ottawa is seeing concerning trends.
Our officers are observing.
Police say over the past couple of weeks,
they've given out dozens of tickets in this area.
And during this latest traffic blitz,
20 officers were out cracking down on bad driving.
The service says over the next couple of months,
it's putting an increased focus on traffic concerns in South Ottawa,
especially where residents have reported issues.
Togral says Limebank Road, Finley Creek,
Hunt Club Road and Stranger Drive
are all hotspots for traffic infractions.
And he says with winter coming,
road conditions aren't about to improve.
We also ask motorists to be particularly mindful
of pedestrians, cyclists.
who become even more vulnerable during poor weather
and reduced visibility.
Councillors in the South End also made an emotional appeal.
When you get behind the wheel, don't be that person.
The councillor for Riverside South
Finley Creek says more needs to be done.
I will keep pressing for stronger enforcement
against speeding and aggressive driving.
And Ottawa needs more red light cameras.
The police cannot be at every intersection.
2026 has been an especially deadly year on Ottawa's roads
and these traffic blitzes
are just one way police hope can turn things around.
They're also asking residents
to help report areas they think need attention.
There have already been 32 traffic-related deaths
in Ottawa so far this year,
11 of them involving pedestrians.
In most recent years, there have been between 20 and 25 fatalities.
Police Chief Eric Stubb says
They're planning to expand
this traffic blitz initiative to the rest of the city.
