This photo of Niagara Falls lit up blue spread
all over social media after the US midterms,
and so did this video, which has racked up millions of views.
The post suggests the falls were lit up
to celebrate Democrats' midterm election wins,
but that's false. The person
who originally posted this photo on Threads said she didn't
even take it on Tuesday night.
It's an old photo she said she shared to show
her support for the blue wave,
as others have done with sharing their blue photos.
And according to the Niagara Falls Special
Illumination Calendar, on November 3rd,
the falls were lit teal for Alzheimer's Awareness Month
at 10 p.m. for 15 minutes.
Charities are able to make illumination requests
for 15-minute blocks to mark
significant dates in support of their cause.
Not only does the color have nothing to do
with the midterms, but results were still coming in at that time.
And the Niagara Falls Illumination Board does
not allow partisan political displays.
This photo of the CN Tower was also shared after the midterms,
but it was also not lit blue for the Democrats.
This is an old photo that was first posted in
May when the CN Tower was covered
in icy blue projections for Drake's album release.
