Right now it's six.
At some point, did you start to cut the body of mom?
Yes.
Shocking moments in the Naresh Bhat trial.
He now admits to dismembering his wife's body,
but maintains he did not kill her.
The latest from court.
Training facility arson.
New details tonight on how a group of men started a devastating fire
impacting local first responders.
And a rally against President Trump's arch development
as officials consider a final vote on the controversial project.
The Six starts right now.
Off the top here at Six,
a stunning twist and admission
in a high-profile Northern Virginia murder trial.
Defendant Naresh Bhatt on the stand telling
the jury he cut up his wife's body.
The Manassas Park man claims Momtacoff will die by suicide.
Fox 5's Tisha Lewis is live in the newsroom tonight with new details.
Tisha?
Angie and Kenneth, the testimony is jarring.
Nareshma now admitting to dismembering his wife
after he says he discovered her dead body in their bedroom.
He says she took her own life
and then went on to share what happened later
that evening after he picked up their child.
Ready? Yes. You're a liar. Yes.
You lied. Did there come a point
when you had to stop? Yes.
And why did you have to stop?
My hands were not working
and then I was feeling like I don't know what I was feeling,
but feeling very differently.
I was unable to do anything and then my hands were even not working,
body wasn't working
and then my feeling process wasn't clear.
A lot of black things coming on my eyes,
my system wasn't working, so I was unable to perform.
That was the prosecution
and the defense questioning Naresh Bhatt taking the stand
today, describing in detail the gruesome process
of cutting his wife's body. He says his wife,
Mata Kaple, Bhatt took her own life,
and that's when he made the discovery and dismembered her
body. Bhatt saying he stopped at moments because, quote,
He mentally and physically was powerless, but saying at times he lost
strength and he was cutting his wife's body in the couple's tub.
He says he also stopped at points because his,
quote, hands were not working.
The astonishing revelation made in court today
as Bhatt was questioned by his defense.
The prosecution honing in on Bhatt's admission to lying.
I can't explain my feeling that, you know, how can you say something?
All of the testimony, all this time since yesterday,
you're making all lies.
Big change, of course.
So they decided to concede that she's dead
and came up with this insane story that he
discovered her body in an apparent suicide
and decided that he would chop it up or try
to throw it in the garbage, I think is what he said,
instead of calling 911, calling anybody.
Attorney Michael Hollingsworth is unrelated
to the case. Meanwhile, this afternoon,
Naresh Bhat detailed how he talked
to the couple's daughter about what took place,
saying he blamed his wife for what happened,
telling their child her mother did not do a good
thing. He goes on to say he was crying. Angie.
Thank you, Tisha.
The head coach of Garfield's high school
girls basketball team in Woodbridge
charged with sexual assault.
47-year-old Demetrius Felder is accused
of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old student athlete.
Investigators believe that the incident
stayed back to June of this year
when Felder allegedly picked up the teen from her home
and sexually assaulted her.
He is currently being held without bond.
New tonight, a pedestrian is hurt after
a crash in Prince George's County.
It happened around 3.30 this afternoon on Old Baltimore Pike.
Mid-Cities Avenue in Beltsville,
police say the man has non-life-threatening injuries.
The road was closed for about an hour, but it's since reopened.
It's unclear what led up to that crash.
All right.
Weather time here as we take a live look outside
at a beaming National Harbor.
What does it say?
It says something in there.
There's some words coming through.
You know, I can never tell what it says.
I think that's our sponsor.
Oh, it is?
It says Spirit something.
Spirit?
Yeah.
Okay.
Oh, wait.
Washington Spirit.
Oh, the Washington Spirit.
Oh, you mean in the wheel.
In the wheel.
Yes, you're right.
In the Washington Spirit.
I was like, those people pay for that, for that text right there.
Okay, I was incorrect. I should have said that.
But, you know, before night fell. Yeah. I mean,
the clouds did all the talking today.
I know it was a kind of a rare break from like our beautiful
sunny pattern. Cloudy, a tiny bit of rain.
And but it's still very mild into the 70s. We're
gonna see that again tomorrow.
So just a little bit, you know, we got to water the lawns a little
A little bit, you guys.
More showers overnight, but again,
it looks to fall in that overnight time frame.
So when you wake up, especially D.C. and points north and west,
we'll be watching the sun come out as we go through the day.
So right now, or I guess I should say earlier in D.C.,
we'll start with the Almanac.
Seventy three was the high temperature
was still very mild despite the clouds and showers.
And that is 11 degrees.
above normal. Now, we certainly didn't get a lot,
just three one-hundredths of an inch
registered at Reagan National, but that is something.
We are in the books officially for
November, even though we do need more
because it has been very dry over the past few weeks.
Live look at Carroll's Creek here in Frederick,
Maryland, 70 degrees back home at the airport,
and temperatures will stay very mild this evening
as that front is still well to our west,
and we've got more moisture pooling overhead tonight.
So upper 60s to low 70s, a few sprinkles
...showing up on satellite and radar.
Otherwise, it'll be overnight towards early tomorrow morning
that we have the chance for some rain.
You see that fill in on your planner starting at 1 a.m.
And then kind of going through the morning drive.
But by mid-morning, we're drying out.
And then by mid-afternoon, we are clearing out.
Sun emerges.
We hit 70 degrees.
That front comes through tomorrow night, though.
So it does look much cooler for the weekend.
But more normal for November with temperatures returning to the 60s.
I'll have more on the weekend coming up.
Back to you.
Thank you, Caitlin.
Well, new this hour, President Trump signing
a proclamation meant to prevent future changes
to his redesigned Oval Office and Cabinet Room.
Trump claims he is making it a national monument.
Since returning to office, the president
changed multiple parts of the White House,
the most notable being additions to the Oval Office
and the East Wing Ballroom,
which is still under construction.
And the president's massive arch near Arlington
National Cemetery is headed to a vote by
the National Capital Planning Commission tonight on the final design.
But as the president pushes to get construction underway,
protests are breaking out.
Fox 5's Tom Fitzgerald is live at Memorial Bridge.
And Fitz, are the votes there to approve the arch?
Well, good evening. You know,
the approval of this project has not really been in question.
President Trump appointed many of the members
on the National Capital Planning Commission,
so it is likely when they finally do get to the vote tonight,
it will be approved.
But keep in mind, that's not the end of the story.
There are several lawsuits surrounding this arch,
one from both Virginia and D.C.,
another from a veterans group
who claim that this would dishonor the veterans.
That are buried inside Arlington National Cemetery.
This was the scene today as a group
of protesters surrounded Memorial Circle today.
They say this is an inappropriate place for the president's arch.
Now, he claims this is to honor the 250th birthday of America.
But these protesters are vehemently opposed to this project.
They claim it's the president's vanity project.
The next Congress in January will have
to work to prevent this from being built.
I believe building the arch will will impact
the sanctity of the place.
It's going to interfere with the sight line between
the Lincoln Memorial and the cemetery.
Now, as it stands right now, this meeting is still underway,
but a federal judge who has received these lawsuits has ordered
the Department of Justice to notify her immediately if there
is any approval or any move towards construction as soon as tonight.
Now, during this meeting of the National Capital Planning Commission,
the president of the board spoke out
in support of the president's plan.
But D.C. Council Chair Phil Mendelson,
who is a commission member himself, raised questions.
The inscription across the arch,
One Nation Under God, perfectly captures a vision of
great Americans going back to Andrew Jackson and Daniel Webster.
President Trump's triumphal arch will demonstrate what
our nation cherishes the most.
It will be a dual-purpose structure,
a major national monument that also incorporates military utility.
This meeting has been going on since 1 o'clock this afternoon.
It is still going on.
One hundred and thirty people have signed up to speak.
The National Capital Planning Commission tells Fox 5 they plan
to vote once all those public comments are made.
We're live in Northwest tonight.
We'll send it back to you.
Tom Fitzgerald, thank you.
Democrats flipping another Virginia congressional seat today.
Shannon Taylor projected to defeat longtime Republican Representative
Rob Whitman in the Commonwealth's first congressional district.
West of Richmond, he's been in office for nearly a decade.
And over in the 5th District, Republican Congressman John McGuire
projected to hold on to his seat,
defeating Democrat Tom Perriello by nearly 8,000 votes.
In Maryland, Senator Chris Van Hollen picking up an endorsement
to be the Senate Majority Leader when Democrats take over in January.
All eyes have been on Michigan Senator-elect Abdul Al-Sayed,
who's supporting Van Hollen.
I was very clear early on that I'm not going to say who I'm not for.
I'm going to say who I am for.
I am for Chris Van Hollen.
If he decides he wants to be Senate Majority
Leader, I think he'd be amazing at the job.
Van Hollen helped campaign for El-Sayed.
The Maryland senator will join us live at 6.30
to respond to the endorsement and talk Democratic priorities.
