Video Summary
AI GeneratedMinnesota experienced a historic midterm election with record-breaking turnout, exceeding 2.8 million voters. While fraud was not a primary motivator, the federal immigration crackdown and the actions of ICE significantly influenced voter mobilization, contributing to a \"blue wave\" of Democratic victories both in Minnesota and in other states like Texas.
Our top story, a historic midterm election with many firsts
on the state and national level here in Minnesota.
Unofficial results show more than 2.8 million voters cast ballots.
That breaks the previous record set in 2018.
Thank you for joining us on Fox 9
and Fox Local for our continued election coverage.
I'm Randy Meyer.
And I'm Kelsey Carlson.
Tonight, we are taking a closer look at two
of the big issues for candidates ahead of
the midterms, those being fraud and the federal immigration crackdown.
As Mike Manzoni will report,
fraud didn't seem to be a top voting motivator for many.
But first, Maury Glover joins us.
Maury, it appears the federal immigration crackdown was,
especially for those in the
metro.
That's right, whether it was motivating voters
or mobilizing turnout, backlash against the
ICE surge heavily influenced top races here in Minnesota
and across the country.
It's emotional. At the memorials for Alex
Preddy and Renee Goode, Minnesotans placed
their I voted stickers on the surrounding signs and posts.
But the ghosts of both Minnesotans killed by ICE agents
seem to loom large over the ballot box on election day.
After the horror of Renee Goode and Alex Preddy,
their senseless killings, we didn't look down.
We looked up. We didn't look away. We looked at each other.
In victory speech after victory speech.
We will rip apart.
Democratic candidates credited anger over Operation Metro Surge
as one of the main reasons for their win.
And you said, no more masked goons shooting our neighbors
and terrorizing our communities
Earlier this year, tens of thousands took to the streets to protest
the largest federal immigration law
enforcement deployment in US history.
But Democrats say the actions of ICE
in Minnesota at the direction of President Trump
also drove many to the polls for the midterm elections.
They even shot and killed two Minnesotans.
But he couldn't make us turn on each other.
And it wasn't just here in Minnesota,
people across the country use their votes to send a message,
resulting in a blue wave
washing over states like Texas,
where Democrats came out on top as well.
They're upset by some of the extremism now
that we're seeing with masked men and unmarked
vehicles kidnapping people off our streets
and sometimes killing our neighbors.
Now while some winning candidates like Peggy Flanagan want
to abolish ICE, others like James
Tallarico, you just saw there from Texas,
want to see major reforms. Back to you.
