Notre Dame Hasn’t Beaten Anybody, and the CFP Committee Just Called It Out

Notre Dame just got an ultimatum from the College Football Playoff. The selection committee revealed the first CFP rankings on Tuesday night, and Notre Dame came in at number 11. They were ranked number four in the AP Top 25 heading into their matchup against Miami. But the committee looked at that and said, absolutely not. Your strength of schedule is nada. The one meaningful game you played this year, you lost in Provo to BYU. And now they really have... One path to the College Football Playoff at this point. Obviously, Notre Dame, not in a conference. You're not going to make it in as a conference champion, and you have to be an at-large candidate. Well, you have one game of consequence left on your schedule. Saturday in South Bend against Miami. And if Notre Dame loses that, they are not making the College Football Playoff. What's their best win going to be SMU in a couple of weeks? I don't think so. Wisconsin maybe, but like they do not have the resume that stacks up. It is wild to see the CFP selection committee behave this way with Notre Dame, especially after the controversy of last year. But at the same time, it is fully deserved. Notre Dame hasn't played anybody. And if they don't beat Miami on Saturday, they won't have beaten anybody either.
