While the debate for No. 1 picks up, we could soon have a No. 1 vs. 2 matchup in college hockey
Nov 4, 2026
For the Hockey Hub on Boston College Eagles on SI,
I'm Christopher Walsh with just a minute
to talk a little college hockey with you.
And if you've been checking out our coverage this week,
there's four teams that received number one votes
in the college hockey rankings this week,
and that does not include Denver,
which slid down, didn't really like about it,
like that they moved down even though they had a sweep last week.
But that's just kind of the nature of the top five.
But the point that I want to make here is that we are,
well, number one, trying to
pick a number one team between these five teams
is incredibly difficult right now.
And you can make a case for each one.
Right now, I think you have to go with Wisconsin
because the Badgers haven't lost yet.
Although on paper, a lot of us think that Michigan is.
going to be the team kind of in the long run kind of thing
and just the way that that the
Wolverines have been able to score
and so forth uh just a ton of talent but there's also a ton
of talent on Denver there's a ton of talent on Michigan State
and and so forth but um so that's
first part of this is that
Wisconsin should probably be number one right now this week.
Whether or not they can hold on to it is another thing.
But number two is this opens up the door
for a couple of interesting possibilities
in terms of a number one versus two matchup.
Now, we've already seen this this year
with Denver versus Michigan playing at Denver,
and Michigan swept the series.
But we've got Michigan against Michigan
State coming up in a couple of weeks,
and then at the top of December,
It's Wisconsin going to Michigan.
Could one or both of those be one versus two matchups?
Could happen, but we're going to have to wait and see a little bit.
With Just a Minute, I'm Christopher Walsh.
Thanks for being here.
