The search for the Boston College men's hockey team's heart
Nov 4, 2026
For Boston College Eagles on SI,
I'm Christopher Walsh with Just a Minute.
Thanks for being here.
And if you were following our coverage over the weekend, you know,
BC Hockey split two games against Northeastern, the Homeless Huskies.
Both games went to overtime.
The first game.
Uh, head coach, Greg Brown benched one of his key players
and that player, he got a
bad, you know, penalty that shouldn't have gotten,
came back and he got the winning game
winning goal, but then team turns around,
loses overtime next, next night.
And the thing that kind of went through my head was,
is, is, is there a search kind of
going on right now for this team's heart?
It just, it, it hasn't been there yet.
And like, you know,
Came out, started the season, lost to Michigan State.
Okay, then lost to Alaska.
What?
Split against St. Cloud State.
You know, managed to tie against Denver.
That was, you know, that was impressive, especially it was in Denver.
And then we had this past week.
And here's the thing.
I mean, we're through October now.
And right now, this team looks like a very average Hockey East team.
It's, it's...
2-4-1 overall.
It has been outscored 21-19 in general.
And look, I know it's early and all,
but when you see BC hockey in sixth place,
and I mean, it's, you know,
if this is a team that's going to challenge
to try to make the NCAA tournament,
it not only has to get out of this.
You know, be on top, but challenged to be the best of the East
and so forth down the road.
And these other teams, you aren't seeing things like this with,
say, like BU or, you know,
even Merrimack, which is playing
with a ton of heart, UConn and so forth.
So we're seeing the improvement.
The thing is, are they going to get there in time?
And at this point, I think you have to kind of start really wondering.
Thanks for being here.
