AI GeneratedVoters in Nassau County, particularly in Freeport, are showing high energy and steady turnout at polling locations. Residents are motivated by a variety of key issues, including immigration, the cost of living, and public safety, as they exercise their democratic rights before the polls close at 9 p.m.
You still have plenty of time to cast
your ballot and so many of you already have.
News 12 Long Island's Jonathan Gordon
is in Freeport at one of the many
voting locations in Nassau County.
And Jonathan, what are people saying there?
Yeah, Antoinette, there's been a lot of energy today.
We've been here since before
the polls opened all throughout the morning,
particularly in a couple other Nassau County poll sites as well.
But we've seen here, particularly at the Freeport Rec Center,
that people are excited to vote, and there's been a good steady stream,
putting some people that are making
their way in now for the midday rush.
And we've been asking people what's
been motivating them to head to the polls.
Voters all across Long Island have been making
their way to their respective polling locations today.
Freeport resident Denise Wallace said she voted early,
but encouraged others to exercise their rights today.
People are coming out to vote
and everybody recognizes that you have to vote.
We asked voters what issues brought them out
to the polls. Some said immigration.
If they want to come to this country like I came.
It has to be legal.
Others, the cost of living.
If he could lower the gas price tomorrow morning,
and I change my vote tomorrow morning, I change my vote.
But you know where my vote is.
Some felt strongly about public safety.
Crime and just no bail. It's ridiculous.
And others, to elect the person they
felt represents their interests first.
This is a democracy, and you're supposed to be for the people.
And people have their own agendas.
We reached out to the Nassau County Board of Elections to get
an update on sort of how turnout is going and how things are going.
We're still waiting to hear back,
bring you an update if we do get a response from them.
In the meantime, polls are still open, and as you said,
they'll remain open until 9 o'clock tonight.
We're in Freeport, Nassau County, Jonathan Gordon, News 12.
