Questions in Virginia and Maryland.
Voters voting to amend their state constitution tonight
on some major issues. And we want to get right over to Katie Barlow.
She has all the details. Katie.
That's right, Kim and Angie.
We actually have answers from the voters on four major
constitutional amendments across Maryland and Virginia.
Let's start with Maryland,
where voters have approved redistricting.
It will amend the Constitution to make it easier
and allow the state legislature and the political party in power,
which in Maryland is Democrats,
to redistrict in between the decade censuses,
be able to try and redistrict
Out the eighth seat in Maryland, Maryland District 1,
that is the only one held by a Republican.
The other seven are currently held by the majority party.
Now looking at Virginia, all three constitutional amendments
on the ballot have also passed in Virginia.
The first entrenches the right to choose to have
an abortion in the state's constitution,
a response to the Supreme Court's landmark decision saying there
is no federal constitutional right to abortion
in the Dobbs decision back in 2022.
And in question two,
Virginia voters also voted to remove a ban on same-sex marriage
that is currently in the Virginia Constitution
that will now no longer exist.
And then in question three.
Virginia voters also voted to allow convicted felons
the right to vote once they have finished
their prison time. And that will, along with the right to vote,
come with the right to serve on a
jury, the right to be a notary public,
and the right to run for public office in Virginia.
Maryland similarly voted to enshrine the right
to abortion in their constitution and also allows
people who are convicted felons the right to vote as well.
So they're doing similarly.
to their neighbors now after passing
all three constitutional amendments.
We'll have more on the D.C. ban on foie gras
and voters there coming up in the 11 o'clock
hour.
That's one of the other referendum votes we're tracking.
