Welcome back into Fox Orlando Election Night Live,
hearing from Darren Soto speaking to
supporters at his election night party that the AP has
not yet called his race, but he is holding
a 0.4% lead right now.
They're Obamacare in our state, in our district. That's wrong.
Team Soto, we're going to fix that, aren't we?
I think about those folks every day that lost
They lost their health care.
The only thing on their mind,
for many of you who got to talk to these folks,
they are heavily in my mind, these families, including Medicaid, too.
And then finally, it's time to stop
the rampant corruption in Washington.
Who's with me, Team Soto?
No more ballrooms,
no more pay-for-pardons,
no more insider trading.
You know, I have never owned or traded a share of stock in my life
because as your state representative
and then state senator and then member of Congress,
Your reputation, your honesty,
your duty to your constituents is all you have at the end of the day.
So you can count on me to continue
to make sure we're doing the right thing in Washington.
Isn't that right, Team Soto?
Most importantly, I want to thank all of the voters,
whether it's in Orange and Osceola County,
who have helped lift us over the top as of right now,
but also so many hardworking folks from
Indian River, from Okeechobee, from Glades, from Highlands.
We had some of our friends from
Highlands and from Indian River up today.
You know, we work very closely with our farmers,
with our ranchers, with our citrus growers.
We continue to have this commitment to make sure
That we have the back of our farmers, our ranchers, our growers.
Isn't that right, Team Soto?
Our dear friends in the Indian River, you know,
we have worked on restoring the lagoon,
on restoring reefs, and restoring coastal areas.
We're thinking about our new constituents to be in Indian River.
Let's give it up, Team Soto!
The last thing I will say is,
it's the voters who decide who represents
Florida's 9th congressional district.
Not Tallahassee, not Washington, not the pundits.
It's all of us, our neighbors, our vecinos.
And so let's give it up one more time for Central Florida,
our rural areas and the coast.
And stay tuned for tomorrow and the next day as we probably
have a recount, but I'd rather be up at the end of the day.
Thank you all. God bless.
Darren Soto speaking to supporters there,
acknowledging that with this margin of
victory, it looks like there may be an automatic recount triggered
because it is below the 0.5%,
threshold there. But he is speaking to supporters.
It looks like he may have
one final thought here. We'll let him finish.
Finish.
Speaking in Spanish to there at the supporters
at his election night party as we continue to
listen in to that. So it sounded like a bit
of a rebuke to those who had written him off because
of the redistricting.
So this goes to prove, he says, that it is not Tallahassee, it is not
Washington, D.C. that picks who represents you in Congress.
It's you, the voters, here in this district,
whatever that district may look like.
Yeah, this was a tough race, and that district
was not helpful to him at all in the way it was drawn.
It was certainly drawn with an eye to get him out of that seat,
and I think the fact that he won today really speaks
to his own strength as well.
Yeah, you can tell. He was a little angry,
and I guess politics can be...
Tough, tough business. But yeah,
like we've been talking about all night, you know, there's a guy
who's been who's been at it and he's been trying to to try to,
you know, be a good bipartisan representative.
He was getting a little vitriolic
in his speech there, but I could get that.
I've been there. And but I do think I do think at the end of the day,
that was a district that we talked earlier about being a bellwether.
And you can see how close it is,
just like we've like we've said all night long.
We look at all these races around District nine was that was a really
good example of how close things were going to be.
Yeah, I think that's right.
This really did become a bellwether for Florida.
How close that race is really reflects the results around the state.
