I looked at two things.
I thought, you know, I've served in Congress a long time, 18 years
in the House and the Senate. And you know what, it's time?
It was time for a new generation
to be able to represent the state of Michigan.
And I thought, man, we have an incredible
bench in Michigan. We've got so many young leaders,
and I'm so excited we're gonna elect
one of those young leaders, Abdul El-Sayed,
as the next senator from the great state of
Michigan!
And I tell you, he ran a tough race.
And if you look at the kind of stuff that he had to deal with,
you knew the Republicans were getting worried
because they just put out more lies,
more deceitful ads, more ugliness,
attacking personally, Abdul, attacking his background,
his heritage. Well, let me just tell you,
I'm very proud that I am a son of an immigrant.
My father.
Traced our lineage back to the Revolutionary War.
My forefather was with George Washington
at Valley Forge. So I am the son of an immigrant,
and I'm the son of the American Revolutionary War.
Ladies and gentlemen, that is America.
That is who we are. We are proud of it. And as Democrats,
we celebrate that diversity
because we know that is what makes us strong. And tonight,
People all across Michigan and all across the country,
I am so confident, are gonna
say that is why we voted for Democrats from coast to coast,
and why we're gonna get a
majority in the US House
and the United States Senate.
And we have to in the time all these last two years,
the last two years that I've served,
the Republicans in the Senate have basically just
been a rubber stamp for Trump.
It doesn't matter what he does.
It doesn't matter how he hurts people. It doesn't matter
he goes into a war which we should have never gotten into.
But when we take the majority,
we are gonna force a strategy to end that war in Iran.
It cannot continue. The American people
want it to end, and that is why they're voting for us here tonight.
The system of checks and
balances only works when that happens.
And it wouldn't happen without all your efforts.
So soon we're gonna get that great news.
And I just wanna say as I get off this stage,
It does not happen without thousands
of volunteers all across our state that knocked on doors,
talked to their friends. They did it with their hearts.
They did it with passion.
And we were on a mission.
And tonight, after all that work, we are tired.
I'm sure every one of you
is tired. But tonight, we are going to celebrate all night long
because America is coming back.
We are going to win tonight. Thank you.
