L.A. Mayor Karen Bass and City Councilmember Nithya Raman,
they're in a close race this
election day. Let's get to Brooke right now,
live from Silver Lake, where Nithya Raman cast
her ballot a little bit ago. She
was there with her family, right, Brooke?
Hey, yes, she sure was, but you know,
that race is close. You know what's not close?
Y'all, the distance you will have
to stand next to someone as you're voting,
it is pretty easy to vote this morning.
There's nobody here. I mean, we see a couple people
trickle in and out, but it is not a busy polling place at all.
Matter of fact, they had to do no
clearing when the councilwoman came in to vote.
She was in there with her entire family watching,
but she was the only one voting at the time because it's-
Pretty quiet.
I think that possibly goes to show
How many people focus on early voting,
which is interesting because there's not been a lot of
action right back and forth over as we got closer to election day.
But it is interesting, the parking
lots are fairly bare. The people that we see coming in and out,
I was hoping to be able to
spend some time talking to a lot of voters this morning.
And so far, not many, just a simple like,
hey, is there a ballot drop box in there?
People are taking advantage of
the ease in which it is for us to vote here in California.
Especially Los Angeles County.
So I want to show you though,
just a little bit of Councilwoman Nithya Raman right after
she cast her ballot for herself.
It's overwhelming.
It's just I feel so lucky.
My parents and in laws have been here
on and off helping with childcare throughout the
entire campaign.
My father and father in law have personally knocked on probably.
A thousand doors.
My dad is everyone's favorite canvasser.
The number of voters I meet across Los Angeles
who said they met my dad at a tabling booth
or at their door is just so...
I feel so lucky to have a family that has supported this vision
and they're in it because
They know that Los Angeles deserves a city that works for everyone,
and they're out here
fighting for that.
They may not be full-time residents of LA,
but they believe in that vision and they're
fighting for it.
There you go, the councilwoman there talking
about what it meant to her to have her parents,
her in-laws, her husband, her kids, her sister-in-law,
and her niece there with her as she
cast her ballot. I gotta tell you, Roxy and Sandra,
as I bring it back out here, send it back to the
studio, one thing about election day,
this is probably my favorite part personally, just as
a voter myself, it's the poll workers.
It's always somebody who feels really passionate about
volunteering in this way,
someone who does it year after year after year with just the sweetest
It is personality and
If you have a regular polling place often
you see them every time you go and vote and
it's just nice and it's just like one of those things
that you always want to remember just
to be kind to them today because they're doing this for you
and this really means a lot to
them.
Back to you.
Good point, Brooke.
Absolutely.
I know my poll workers at my polling place,
people in the community, so great to see.
And oftentimes they're very, very friendly.
So we appreciate that as well.
All right, they're really happy to be here, right?
Every year. Yeah, of course.
