AI GeneratedBill Anderson discusses the current state of the midterm elections, highlighting unexpected competitiveness in several Senate races and the potential for these results to signal broader national political shifts. The conversation explores key battleground states and how the outcomes will influence the trajectory of both parties heading toward 2028.
This continues to heat up the battle playing out in key swing states
and districts all across the country. Bill Anderson joining us now,
host of Battleground Midterms here at Fox with a closer look
at some of the races that you're keeping a close eye on.
Bill, what's standing out now that Election Day is underway?
First of all, good morning, Steve. That was a great
breakdown. I was sitting there intensely
watching you guys break down. It's a lot.
It's going to be, I think, even more exciting than
anybody thought. If you went back six months ago
and thought that a legitimate seven Senate seats
may be in play, and as of polls this morning,
all seven are favoring Democrats in.
Likely, in most states, that President
Trump carried pretty significantly.
It's going to be a battle, battleground, that I'm not sure people
really thought existed six months ago, and yet here we are.
You know, it's interesting, Bill, because we had some strategists
on earlier this morning from both sides of the aisle,
and I asked them which one state they might
be particularly keeping an eye on, and they both surprised me.
One said Ohio, and one said Iowa.
Are there any states to you that are standing out?
Well, I think those stand out and throw Texas into the mix as well.
I mean, Texas is a situation
where Democrats have tried to get Texas for years.
Democrats have thought they had a legitimate shot
in Texas for years, have polled fairly well.
But it's a situation now where a Democrat in Texas,
of all places, holds a significant lead.
But I think that Iowa, Kansas, excuse me,
In Senate races, Ohio that you just pointed out.
Those are standing out because, again, they're not races
that anybody really seriously thought would be in play.
And I think that we're going to be watching closely
because regardless of the outcome, and I think there
are going to be some people who are surprised by the outcome,
it's going to speak to what the kind
of national movement is, where the energy is.
Are people staying where they've been?
Are they voting for change? There's a lot to watch tonight.
You know, Bill, it's going to be fun, and we'll be keeping tabs
with you tonight as we get the results coming in.
On the congressional level,
but I have to ask you, since we have you here,
so many people say starting tomorrow morning, the race to 2028 is on.
And for Democrats, there's some decision making to do.
What do you think about that?
Does anybody stand out to you as an early favorite, perhaps?
And maybe that includes the governor where you are in Pennsylvania.
Is there any play there?
I mean, Governor Shapiro here in Pennsylvania has
been talked about for years. But I think
that one of the reasons why it's
so important to watch tonight is because I think it speaks
to the direction of the country.
Again, names that will start to emerge will have a lot
to do with whether or not the country in the midterms votes for,
in quotes, younger, fresher
ideas.
How do people feel about these democratic socialists?
Candidates, and Abdul El Saeed,
individuals like that will let you know just how far,
how progressive, how liberal the country is willing to go.
On the other side of that, some of the Republican candidates,
there are people who are waiting
to see if the country is kind of over MAGA.
Are you looking for a recreated MAGA?
So you're looking for specific names.
Josh Shapiro was thrown out there, AOC was thrown out there.
There's a senator.
Running in Iowa that a lot, or candidate running in Iowa that a lot
of people are talking about has kind of created a new identity.
But it really kind of depends on how people vote tonight
and what they say they want going forward.
All right, we'll see. We'll test the waters tonight
and see what happens and take it from there.
Bill Anderson's covered politics for a long time.
Of course, check him out on Battleground with the SE Cup.
Thank you, Bill. It's always a pleasure talking with you.
Enjoy the long day today.
Appreciate you, and I struggled to get over what
your commanders just did to my team.
Well, that battleground has been decided for now, but we'll see.
There's always next year.
