It's been over 30 years since a Texas Democrat has won statewide.
Now, James Tallarico,
a former schoolteacher and Presbyterian seminarian,
is carrying the hopes of what once seemed unlikely, Texas turning blue.
He's already had success when he first ran for the Texas House in 2018
and won a district that had voted for Donald Trump two years earlier.
Tallarico's US Senate campaign is against billionaire donors
and corrupt politicians.
He's trying to position himself as someone
who can bring both sides together and is calling for
unity, saying he wants the state to go purple.
Tallarico has frequently taken aim at his
Republican opponent Ken Paxton,
who has been indicted on fraud and impeached by his party
over extramarital affairs. I have a legislative record.
Ken Paxton has a criminal record. That
is the contrast in this race.
This election is about whether you want a senator who serves you
who serves billionaire mega donors
and Ken Paxton has the ultimate mega donor.
Elon Musk is trying to buy this Senate seat in Texas.
As part of his campaign,
Tallarico said he wouldn't take any money
from corporate political action committees.
While Republicans have paid an enormous amount
of money to beat Tallarico,
the Democrat has out-raised his opponent by $124 million.
Texas is the most expensive non-presidential race in US history.
