Midterm elections latest: Texas races down to the wire ahead of Election Day

We are watching for critical election updates just hours ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. This includes taking a look at polls that have shown the hotly contested U.S. Senate race in Texas is in a dead heat. Republican and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton faces Democrat and state Rep. James Talarico for the seat currently held by U.S. Sen. John Cornyn. We are also watching Texas' Republican Gov. Greg Abbott as he looks to defeat his Democratic challenger Gina Hinojosa and capture another term leading the Lone Star State. Both candidates made their final appeals Monday while urging supporters to turn out to vote before Tuesday’s election. We are learning the latest this evening with Jenna King from FOX 7 Austin in Texas.
