He's not technically on the ballot,
but these midterms are very much a referendum on the
current U.S. president,
as well as on the state of the U.S. economy that he's presiding
over.
And with a very unpopular president and voters hurting financially,
poll after poll show
that the Democrats are in a good position to win.
There's little doubt that Democrats should
be able to take back control of the House.
The question there is more about how big.
The blue wave will be when it comes to the Senate,
things are a little bit more complicated there.
There are about 10 races that are considered competitive,
and most of these are currently held by Republicans. The Democrats,
they need to hold on to all of their seats and flip at least.
Four of those held by the Republicans
in order to take back control of the Senate.
The polls recently have shown that Democrats do have an edge.
But in states that are traditionally Republican,
like Texas, Iowa, South Carolina, Kansas,
that Donald Trump won by double digits just two years ago,
well, Democrats will need to put up
a stronger than average performance in order to win.
Otherwise, the United States could be left
with a divided Congress for the next two years.
