So here at this marina back at the end of August, a 40 foot luxury
sailboat was stolen and just days later over in Newport, Rhode Island,
authorities identified a boat that appeared to be the same one.
But when police tried to approach the vessel, the man who was on board
fired a weapon and was ultimately killed in a shootout with police.
So the video that you're going to see right now shows police attempting
to approach that vessel. And you can see in the video.
The person on board run
into the cabin despite officers instructing him to show his hands and
when the officers do get onto the boat that's when you hear that pop,
that gun go off. Officers
yelling that shots have been fired engaging
then in an exchange of gunfire and seconds later an
officer identifies himself in the video as being hit.
So eventually officers make their way into
the cabin of the boat where
the Newport Police Department says 27 year old Brendan Norris was
Boris was found with a gun
And a significant head injury.
So we do know that the officer who was hit with the gun,
that he was shot in the leg and treated for his injuries.
Meanwhile, Norris, who was on board that boat, died of a head injury.
So we will have a full breakdown of this video
for you more in depth coming up later tonight.
