And this morning, we want to give you
an expert opinion heading into the midterms.
Joining us now is the former minority leader
of the Nassau County Legislature, Kavon Abraham.
Kavon, thanks so much for joining us early.
Of course, one race a lot of Long Islanders are going
to be paying attention to is the race for governor.
Do you think Nassau County Executive Bruce
Blakeman did enough to beat Governor Hochul,
or do you think she's going to take it again?
I think I think Kathy Hochul is going to prevail.
The governor has a lot of wind at her back.
You obviously see the national scene of what's going on right now.
People are feeling their affordability is at risk.
People are feeling that things are going up.
Costs are going up. And I think the wind of the sail
of the blue wave for Democrats is coming.
And it's it's boosting, I think, Kathy Hochul even more.
than she would have normally won in a conventional year four years ago.
So from that standpoint, I think she's going to prevail.
Not that the county executive hasn't done enough.
It's just basically I don't think he has
the momentum to be able to carry it through.
So, Kavon, if that's true,
do you see the blue wave going all the way down through the ballot
in this now local election
and even year scenario through the county legislature?
What would that mean for how the county
is run over the next year or two?
Well, it's going to be interesting.
I mean, every single race is different. I mean,
Nassau is a little unique because obviously,
you know, how the districts are drawn up through the
settlement last year.
But I think from that standpoint, it's possible. I mean, right now,
as you know, the legislature sits at 11-8 in Nassau County.
It's really, really difficult
to pick up two seats. I mean,
I served in the legislature for almost 23 years.
I could tell you that picking up one
or two seats is extremely difficult.
But I think the Democrats in Nassau have made a great push.
I think the goal would be to pick up those two seats.
But obviously, it would be a great night
if they prevail on the congressional level,
they prevail on the state senate, the assembly level,
and the other parts of government as well.
Former Nassau County Legislator Kavon Abrams,
thanks so much for joining us and giving us
your insight on the show this morning.
Thank you.
And Kavad will join us tomorrow night as well
with live reaction as results come in. He'll be
alongside former Suffolk legislature presiding
officer Kevin McCaffrey and political analyst
Mike Dowidziak. That's our panel tomorrow night.
We have reporters at all of the important live
locations. Join us tomorrow starting at 9 p.m.
