It was a fun weekend overall, right, guys?
It sure was.
I think a lot of people are still recovering after,
obviously, the Brewers World Series win, and
then the parade, and then Halloween,
and all the other volleyball games, and basketball
games, and soccer games,
and everything else that was happening, but we get time to talk
about it now, which is fun, because
that's what we could do on Real Milwaukee.
How did you guys recover after the weekend?
Did you sleep?
I don't think I have.
The extra hour certainly worked out nice.
That helped a lot.
My neighborhood, I literally watched them all kind of in sequence.
Remember, it was Halloween.
Because I started putting my stuff out
because I hadn't had time all week.
And then like two doors down, pumpkins started to show up.
A couple doors over, it was like, oh, right, the kids are coming.
We've got to put something out here.
Unfortunately, my house, we didn't do the trick-or-treating
because we went somewhere else to do the trick-or-treating,
so nobody got candy at our house.
That happens a lot.
Yeah, and that happens, too.
But the recovery of that extra hour without it.
Oh, we needed that.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brewer's week.
Not that we're complaining, but still.
Yeah, but we, so we're back, and we'll have to do this
because the Brewers are still top of mind,
and they should be, obviously.
That celebration was something, definitely one for the books here,
and some new perspective this morning
on the Brewers' championship celebration.
Milwaukee Police estimated about 750,000 people attended
either the parade or the rally on Friday,
and for perspective, about 560,000 live in the city.
Yeah, there were some people down there.
MPD also said that this may have been the largest crowd
for a single day event in the state's history.
Will you agree?
Oh, for sure.
It was just amazing, too,
because it was all the families that were out there, too.
It was such a great event.
And I love that they even got off of the buses.
They were in the streets.
They've really, I think, made this a personable event.
Celebration.
You know what I mean?
For the fans.
It really was.
They interacted.
They were safe.
We were safe.
The crowd was safe.
Everybody was joyous.
I'm going to go down and say this,
that I've never experienced anything that was as joyful
and really well put together as this.
And people stood, they stood behind the barricades,
they stood behind the police lines.
They were all polite.
Everybody was polite.
Behaved.
We came together, man.
We could do it.
And we pulled this out quick, too, you know?
I mean, the last time I could think of anything even close
to this size was probably the Harley
Parade, like the 105, I think it was,
or something like that, where everybody, you know, was
coming down for the big parade,
but I'm sure those numbers weren't even half, maybe about
half, but yeah, 750, I mean, think about it,
the whole state only has five million people,
so like one in six, one in seven
were actually present at that parade, that's crazy.
There was an occasion that I had.
I had the opportunity to talk to some beer vendors down
on the grounds during Fox 6 Now with Haley,
and they were sold out of beer at about 2.15, 2.30 or so,
and we got to do the math on air live about the amount
of possible beer that was consumed over that time.
And the first thing I said was,
I don't think there's ever been an event in the history of Milwaukee
or even the state of Wisconsin where that much
was consumed prior to a certain time of the day.
And that's just counting what was sold.
It was a small little window.
Sure.
Yeah, you were at, what is that?
Do the math real quick.
You're at six hours, essentially, on the Summerfest grounds.
And that was just self-reliance bar tab.
So that's it.
Truthfully, they had some fun, didn't they?
They were having a lot of fun, for sure.
And rightfully so, because they did amazing this whole season.
So two members of the crew are going to have
to make a little more space in their trophy rooms.
Both Jackson Chirio and second baseman Bryce Terang
were honored with a Golden Glove.
So the Golden Gloves recognize the best defenders
at each position in their team.
Fairly.
So this is Chirio's first recognition as an outfielder
and Terang's second career win.
He remains the only Milwaukee infielder to be honored
since the club moved to the National League in 1998.
Congrats.
Yeah, I mean, and some of the catches Terang made in that game,
like you just see him flying around.
Oh, amazing.
Flopping and making these huge,
it's like he turned into some sort of Stretch Armstrong or something.
He was just Mr. Incredible.
It was just bizarre.
So incredibly well-deserved there.
Some Brewers fans are going the extra mile as well
to commemorate the historic World Series win.
Fates Align Tattoo Shop offered up free flash tattoos, real ones,
not the kind the kids put on and you take off with the olive oil.
This is real stuff.
It's the brewer's logo or the barrel man,
and fans captured the historic World Series in ink.
The large turnout also helped with driving donations for a coat drive,
which is awesome.
That was what was happening, as one said.
It's actually pretty crazy, like we knew it was going to be good,
but we didn't think it was going to be this busy.
It's been a crazy year. I can't believe they won still.
It feels a little surreal even sitting
in this chair getting the tattoo done.
I feel pretty proud to be like, hey, you got one of those too?
Yeah, it's like a brotherhood, even with sisterhood,
too, even within getting that tattoo.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, I kind of want one.
It looks really good.
I don't have any tattoos, but that looks really good.
That might be a good first one for your big baseball guy.
Just go back, too.
You know, there are a lot of companies really kind of.
Leading into this with free scoops,
free cones, or whatever, free shakes.
Tally's Tap in Waukesha, a sports bar out there,
is making good on a promise for free beer
because they put that out there.
So they're going to be serving
complimentary suds today starting at noon.
Now, there's a limit of three Miller Lite drafts per person,
and they also plan to have some food specials, DJs, and giveaways.
But I would say take your time.
Don't go at those three immediately
because noon is an early start for some people.
And that could be a long day.
I hope they get, and they will get some people,
but I hope they have also, they play it safe.
You know what I mean?
Oh, for sure.
We know how to party, but we
also know how to do it safely here in Milwaukee.
So take Brian's advice.
It's good advice.
All right.
And we also have to show people a good time, right?
Including the Jonas Brothers.
Yes.
All right.
Where's Haley, right?
Oh, right.
A celebrity sighting out of Milwaukee.
She's still wandering around.
I'm trying to find her.
I'm trying to find her.
Steven, are they still there?
So Kevin and Joe Jonas raised a glass Sunday
at Estabrook Park in Shorewood.
No word on if Nick joined them.
But the Jonas Brothers performed last night at Pfizer Forum.
As part of their Burning Up tour all over again.
Now, I know she was at the concert last night.
But, like, this was her chance.
Like, they were out in the wild.
Yeah, this is so close.
You know?
And does anybody know why?
I mean, were they here for the Brewers?
Well, no, no, no, no.
They had a performance last night.
Oh, they did.
They did have a concert, yeah.
But still, why?
Because, like, a lot of times they
don't leave the tour van or the hotel.
They don't always go wandering around town.
Well, they usually do.
Do they?
Okay.
They came.
I think they went to, like, Benelux.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, yeah.
But not every star does, right?
But as for Park.
But it's a beer, I mean, me and they were like,
we want the authentic Milwaukee experience.
Let's go to a beer garden in the park and stuff.
I think it's a good choice.
It's a great weekend, too, to come and hang out, you know?
Maybe that was it.
The weather was just really nice.
We're like, let's get outside.
Yeah.
Well, being outside means that we're going
to have to start wearing some coats.
And, guys, today was the Fox 6 Coats for Kids kickoff.
As I was down there, I loved seeing the community rally behind.
There's Rich from Operation Warm.
They've been a part of it for 10 years or so.
They put out those nice coats, new coats, coats.
with those donations of $25 or more.
You know, when you're at...
Salvation Army, you just immediately kind of cave
because they do such great work.
And this is them again for 42 years.
You know, Rob, you know Vince,
and this is kind of how this all started years ago.
It all started as Cinderella's Coats for Kids
and continued on after his retirement, of course.
And it's been an amazing project every year.
The staff here at Fox 6 does an incredible job
getting all these bins ready every year.
And of course, the community always steps up.
And I know it's been a mild October,
November looks like it's following suit so far.
It will eventually get cold.
Kids will need coats at some point in the Wisconsin winter.
So please dig deep.
Yeah, and there's that QR code there at the bottom.
So for Fox 6 Coats for Kids and the coat drive here,
clearly we need your help here.
So have a new or gently loved winter coat.
Donate those at the drop-off.
Steinhafels, Landmark Credit Union, Salvation Army,
all those through December 6th.
I was saying the 2nd earlier on, so I misspoke there.
But you can scan that QR code on the bottom there
with your smartphone or tablet,
and then you can safely donate money as well
that will buy those brand-new coats from Operation Warm.
So a lot of coats are needed for the kids this winter.
The weather will turn cold eventually.
Fox6now.com for more information.
Guys, we're going to be right back with more
Real Milwaukee here for you.
They have a very
elaborate light display.
You know, we first saw the house in October.
They had it up already.
Hmm.
Yeah.
Do they go that big every year?
The herald angels sing.
Glory to the newborn King.
They go that big all year.
Oh wow!
That's my cue.
Pleasure.
It was a pleasure.
All right.
Oh, that's too funny.
The Kringles really love Christmas,
but things take a turn when their new neighbors
soon realize their sinister intentions
and team up to launch a high-stakes rescue mission.
Christmas at the Kringles is not your average Christmas movie,
but you can check it out in theaters on Friday.
Hey, Gino.
All right, let me just say it off the bat.
This is not a warm family comedy.
It is a different type of movie
because it is holiday and it's horror.
I talked with Rob Riggle and Rachel Bilson about it.
This movie is here.
This movie is in this lane.
What movie is this lane in?
Yeah.
Your guess is as good as mine.
All right.
It is a comedy, horror, holiday, what,
oh my gosh, that can't be right, yep, type movie.
I mean,
ha ha ha.
And Rachel, I love for you, you are...
You are what we are feeling.
You are that normal person
in an abnormal situation.
Talk about some of the people
who you are acting with
because I started with Ron
who looks in pain
throughout this movie
in the most beautiful way.
Yes. Ron looks in pain throughout the whole movie
and it's perfect for his character. I mean,
we were surrounded by Rob Riggle, Thomas Lennon,
Arden Mirren, Beverly D'Angelo. I mean,
just the list goes on. You couldn't put together
a better group to just create the most insane,
fun, hilarious movie I think I've ever seen.
I totally can remove myself and just watch it.
And I'm like, what is this? But also I love it.
I love it.
That's quite the cast list.
She just rattled off there.
It looks like they had a lot of fun on the set, too.
You know what?
I know there are actors, and everyone could pretend that they had fun.
I really do believe this cast really enjoyed working with each other.
I love this Santa because I'm
not quite sure about him almost throughout the whole movie.
Yeah, I think that's what makes him fun,
is you don't know if he's a good guy, a bad guy.
You don't know if he's got a good heart, a bad heart.
Thank you very much.
Then also you don't know, is he real?
Is he magical? Does he have superpowers?
What's going on with this guy? Because he feels like a jerk.
And then he feels like a good guy.
So it's a lot of fun to play a character that you can't pin down.
Rachel, I may be unpopular in this opinion, but...
I always suspect people who have Christmas decorations up way too long
that there's something wrong.
This movie confirms it.
Yeah, I mean, well, all year long, I think,
is different than, like, February, right?
I mean, listen, I still have spiders outside
from last Halloween, so I'm not one to talk.
That's just—now they look really creepy, so it works in my favor.
But, yes, all year long is definitely suspicious.
Rob, you always seem to enjoy life and to want to have a good time.
And with a cast like this,
I'm guessing you felt this way throughout the movie.
Well, it's the greatest gift in the world when you're driving to set.
Well, first of all, we got to make this in L.A., which never happens.
So that was huge.
I was thrilled about that.
But when you're driving to set and you can't get there fast enough,
that's a really good sign.
That's a sign that, you know,
I think I'm involved in a project I'm really enjoying.
It's because of the people.
We had a great director, Kevin.
We had a great cast.
People that I enjoyed being in front of the camera with,
but honestly, as soon as they
yelled cut, I just wanted to go sit down
and do more bits because it was a joyful experience.
Everybody was having fun.
Everybody sincerely enjoyed each other,
and it made for a great environment.
I loved it.
Oh, that's nice to hear, right?
Because you hear so many of the background gossip
and rumors and fighting and stuff.
So, I mean, like you said, they're actors, who knows?
But it seems pretty genuine, yeah.
Yes, but here again, I want to warn people because some years back,
I got a call from a studio saying, hey,
we have a movie we want to send you to.
It's called Bad Santa.
And I was screaming it at the Mayfair Theater, and I brought my nephew.
He's 10 years old.
I mean, a cute Santa movie.
I ran him out of that theater in like five minutes
after the fourth bad word that was uttered by Santa.
A lot of these movies lately have a little tour
and look a little twist in it.
Right, right.
Do not go to this with kids.
I'm just telling you.
I like that.
You're throwing that out there immediately.
I need to be clear.
Yeah.
Thanks, Gino.
All right, Gino.
See you tomorrow.
That was not going to pop up in the Hallmark rotation.
Right.
Yeah.
All right, that's good to know.
Gino's very clear about that.
You only make the bad Santa mistake once, right?
You don't want to repeat that.
We'll be repeating something, the energy at least,
coming up in just a couple minutes.
We've got some food coming up.
We've got cookie book chat.
Oh, there's a show.
Yeah, that's right.
Another magical season of Harry Potter Wizards of Baking
kicks off this week on Food Network,
and you may recognize one of the contestants for this season.
So Cake Artists and Food Network champion and owner
of Signature Sweets, Kimberly Adams, is here ahead of the premiere.
Good morning. How are you?
Good morning. I'm good.
I'm so excited to hear about this.
Thank you.
Okay. So first, what can we expect?
You said that you really, really had a good time shooting this year.
Yes. I had a super, super fun time because we had three cake artists
on a team this year instead of just two people.
So we could do more. We can make it fun and really make it ours.
Now, you've been a champion in many
of the competitions on the Food Network.
This one?
It's a little bit different.
Share a little bit about some of the themes that you guys have
and kind of I want to see
the reveal in a minute, too.
OK, so we we got to literally go
into the world of Harry Potter this time.
I mean, we were in the world last time,
but you'll see what I'm saying when the show comes
out, like we're literally in the world of Harry Potter.
So it was so fun.
Some of the themes were the classrooms, some of the some of
Hagrid's hut like there's like specific themes I can't name all
of them okay yeah but I'm sure
you obviously drew some more inspiration being submerged
in it like that yes all right so what
do we have here? So you know that trend of the museum
of us that's going around on TikTok like
everyone's making it so I created a museum of us
but I made it the entire Harry Potter
Wizards of Baking.
All the contestants, the judges, I made a museum of us.
Okay, so this, I'm looking at, this is so intricate.
Okay, so break this down for me because this whole back wall is edible.
How did you make this and did you kind of like print the pictures or?
Yes, so I built the cake on the inside.
I have a video on my Instagram, too, of how I actually did it.
So I built the cake on the inside.
Then everything is buttercream on the outside.
I made it look like brick.
I made each portrait is made out of chocolate.
Then I printed edible prints of each team and the judges.
And then all the little intricate details on there.
That is amazing. I love the detail of it all.
Thank you. You know the chimney,
how we come out of the chimney on the show.
Like, it's, I love it.
Oh, that's pretty cool.
So, you said this time you guys were working in groups of three.
How did you find that in terms of pulling
from people's strengths and creativity?
Oh, it was amazing.
So, I work with Ju Jar and Caitlin, who Ju Jar is so good with,
like, details and colorings and shadings and things like that.
And, you know, that's what Wizards of Baking is all about.
And then Caitlin is an amazing sculptor, so we had her as well.
And so Jujar and I, between us two, we did the desserts.
So Duff is one of the judges on the show.
And the last time I saw Duff, I competed against him,
and I beat him in the dessert category.
So now he is judging me.
Oh, wow.
So it makes for a very interesting show.
And that's the thing.
It's like besides just, you know, your talent with.
Baking.
It's the dynamics of the team too kind
of make the show pretty interesting.
Absolutely.
Oh, I love this.
Okay.
Okay.
Wow.
Look at that.
I'm looking at like the video right now.
And you said literally you're like in the world of it.
And this is pretty cool because I think
this is what the 25th anniversary.
Yes.
Of it coming out.
Yes.
They're celebrating the 25th anniversary with the new Harry Potter.
That's a series on HBO now.
Perfect.
Okay.
All right.
I feel like what's next for you?
I feel like, you know...
Every time I see one of your cakes, I'm like, oh, you can't top that.
Oh, no, yes, you can.
Oh, man.
I am just teaching now.
So I want to transition into something that I can give back into.
And teaching is one of those things.
So I teach for the FSEP program, which is the Food,
Share, Employment Training Program for the state.
I also have two apprenticeship programs, the pre-apprenticeship and the
apprenticeship program for the Department of Workforce Development.
And then I also teach Serve Safe classes, which is teaching you
food safety, how to work in a kitchen, things you need to do.
The do's and don'ts of the kitchen,
because anyone that works in any food service industry,
they need to have that skill.
So I teach that as well.
I love that we have such a national treasure here in our area,
being able to teach other bakers.
Do people sign up for classes or how can they take part of your tutelage?
Yes. Yes. You can reach me at SignatureSweetsKim.com.
I'm yeah, that com and also SignatureSweetsKim at Gmail as well
or my Instagram or any social media.
You can reach out to me that way. All right.
Back to the cake. Now, you said you can cut this.
Oh, absolutely. All right. Come on around. Yes.
Let's cut this so you guys can see that it is cake.
I feel like I'm doing a reveal.
Oh my gosh, look at that.
You can see right through.
Yeah, it's cake.
Literally.
Let's pull it out.
Look, guys.
Oh my gosh.
Oh, I'm trying to get it out.
And there's lighting in here.
Like, this is pretty elaborate.
We'll make it a mess.
Oh, that looks delicious, too.
Let you get it right.
Oh, wow.
That's cool.
Yeah, I do have other lighting, too.
Let's just do this.
Let's show you this little cute piece.
Yeah, that's fine.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Oh, that's amazing.
Okay.
Okay.
And the pictures are edible, too.
Okay.
Yes, the pictures are chocolate and edible images.
Wow.
All right.
If you did this on this scale,
I'm so excited to see what's happening on Food Network.
When are we airing?
November 4th.
OK.
I think it's 7 p.m. our time.
Perfect.
Please watch.
It's going to be so good, you guys.
I feel like you're going to go far this season.
It's going to be good.
All right.
Kimberly, thank you so much.
You are so welcome.
Thanks for having me.
All right.
We'll be right back.
This is awesome.
Welcome back to Real Milwaukee here.
You know, one of the things about this season
is that it's hard to bounce back, right?
Sure.
It's definitely hard to bounce back.
And when it comes to entertaining,
I know that that's something that we all try to do.
Often, often as well.
I don't have the exact story pulled up for this one here.
Yeah, well, this one's about the research,
if you wanted to read that one.
It's basically showing, like, a huge drop in the number of Americans
who are having friends over to their house.
So, in 1975, 42% of Americans said they had friends
or family over at least, you know, once a month.
Well, now that number dropped substantially to 12%.
Whoa.
Yeah.
So, and it's not just dinner parties.
People are also less likely to play cards,
go to bars or take in, you know, community
events.
So some of the reasons why they're saying staying home has become.
It's cheaper, it's a cheaper way of entertaining,
obviously, and time spent parenting was high
on the list.
Oh, that's interesting.
Well, the kids had much bigger schedules
than I had back in the 70s, right?
So, like, not that my parents entertained a lot either,
but I do remember them, you
know, having people over, and, you know,
when the kids were the same age as the time I'm
remembering, I was mostly at a hockey rink or something.
There was just stuff going on.
I'm sure you had the basketball game and whatever.
So, yeah, I think people kind of value
their time, too, when they get home.
I'm just like, I just want to exhale for a moment.
This is a good way to do it, too, because the Christmas Fantasy House,
you can go to their place where they're entertaining
their 33rd year, by the way, as well.
That's right.
Nicola is getting into the holiday spirit at this year's location.
Hey, Nic.
Hello.
Yeah. Hey, guys. Good morning to you.
You know, if you are not in the holiday spirit just yet,
I know Halloween was just on Saturday.
You're in luck. I have just the place for you walking
in the doors of this stunning home in Oconomowoc.
You will just automatically feel like you are in a winter wonderland.
And nobody knows that better than the organizers
of the Christmas Fantasy House back for another year
and even more spectacular than ever before.
I'm so grateful now to be joined live by Becky Weedy.
She's from the Ronald McDonald House, which,
of course, all the proceeds from this event.
Benefit and then we have Connie Walters
who's on the committee for this fabulous event.
Thank you for being here.
Okay, so going into this event,
kind of what was the goal for this year?
Because I know that these homes have
a reputation for just being so spectacular.
How do you up the ante every year?
It is difficult to up ourselves, yes,
to up the ante with the decorations and so forth.
But I think every year it comes together so fabulously.
It offers such inspiration.
The decorators do an incredible job.
They are...
such pros at what they do.
They know exactly, you know, they come early, they scope out the area,
they even draw, you know, out what their vision is.
It's really, really nice. It's so much fun
to be a part of it. Oh, and it really shows
when you walk through this house. I mean,
the attention to detail here, guys, is just spectacular.
Take a look at this bedroom here.
You can see they thought of everything.
They have even the headboard is decorated. It's just
stunning. But even though, of course,
this event really gets us into the holiday spirit,
It also supports local businesses.
It's really about benefiting a really wonderful cause
and that is the Ronald McDonald House
So, Becky, for folks at home who maybe aren't familiar,
what kind of services does the Ronald
McDonald House provide?
Well, what we really want to do is keep families close.
So we offer a warm room, warm meals, a comfortable room, warm meals.
And a place for families to stay
when their child is receiving medical care.
That's one of the most stressful times
and we're trying to eliminate stresses and
financial burdens for families.
There is no cost for families to stay at the Ronald McDonald House.
So our average stay is eight and a half days.
And we really, there is supportive programming throughout the house and
we just cater to families and we're supportive to them.
I can imagine too that it's really lovely
for families to be with other families who are going
through the same thing, right? Because it's important
to have that support when you're
going through a difficult time. That is exactly right.
We provide dinners every night for families
and it's just such a relief when they come back from the hospital
and they see familiar faces,
not only in our staff, but with other families
and they actually build connections
that last way longer than they leave the Ronald McDonald house.
So that's a great thing for us.
And obviously because everything that you offer is free for guests
and families who come to stay,
what does it mean to you to have
the Christmas Fantasy Home supporting your wonderful organization?
We are just so grateful. It just means so much.
And when families get into the holiday spirit and they're at the house,
the Ronald McDonald House, it's hard sometimes.
So all this money and proceeds that are coming
and just really benefit the families
and just keep them together and bring them into the holiday cheer.
as well.
Oh, I can only imagine. Oh my gosh. Okay.
So now Connie, I got to talk to you. I did notice,
I took a quick whip around the house,
just the first floor, at least. And I did notice a little
bit of a trend here. It seems like there's a lot
of natural elements coming in. Is there outside
in? Yes. Is that the theme for this year?
So there isn't a theme necessarily. Um, but those are,
it's Christmas of all kinds.
You know, we, we do have whimsy Christmas. We have Santa Christmas.
We have vintage Christmas,
but we do have a lot of what you said where the outside is kind of
We have the feathers and the pine and the twigs and things like that.
So, yeah, we even have a Ronald McDonald house room.
It's completely done in McDonald.
It's great.
It is great.
There's grimace.
You know, it's like all old school McDonald's.
It's really fun for everybody here, of course.
Everybody.
Yes.
So for folks at home who maybe have never been to this before,
what can they expect when they come?
All right. So you can't come to the home itself.
There is a shuttle and the shuttle is at the
Lake Country Dockhounds.
And admission at the door, you can pay at the door. You can go online
and pay online. It's $25 entry.
And all, like we said, all the proceeds go to Ronald McDonald House.
And then they'll just be in for just magical splendor.
There is a raffle. The raffle is the
biggest this year. A silent auction is the biggest
this year that it's ever been. We also have a
We have a sweet shop, too.
There's just lots to do.
You could spend the whole day here, actually.
After being in this house, I mean, it's so big,
it's so magnificent, it's so stunning.
I feel like people could easily do that.
Now, this house is also for sale, is that right?
Yes.
Oh, right.
Victory Homes. Thank you for bringing that in.
Yes, they've been lovely partners. This is the
fourth model home that they've donated for us.
So they are just wonderful to work with.
They are Johnny on the spot.
You know, we had a toilet go down the other day and they, I mean,
that's, it's nice to say on television, right? We've said worse.
So
So, I mean, they are like right here to fix things.
They put extra outlets in for us.
They hang lights.
They, you know, they've just been wonderful.
They've been absolutely, they closed down.
This is a model home.
They've closed down the model for us so we could have our event here.
So, again, they've just been nothing but spectacular, really.
And for folks who maybe want a new home for the holidays,
I feel like that's going to be pretty nice.
I'm moving ready.
Seriously.
Guys, I'm going to give you another look here around this bedroom.
This is just a small taste
of what you can see all throughout this house.
For the Christmas Fantasy House for this year,
they're open all week long.
And, again, you can just get a ticket right at the door.
Just drive, park your car at the Lake Country Dockhounds,
and then they'll shuttle you over here.
And, guys, I mean, I...
I think I understand how people would think,
okay, well, Halloween was just on Saturday.
The leaves are still super vibrant,
but walking into these doors, first step in,
they've got the Christmas candles going.
You can smell it like it is. It's the holiday season.
You feel it as soon as you walk in.
That's just one part of it. Thank you so much,
Nicola. It looks great. Have you got your tree up yet?
Oh, you're late this year.
What is happening?
Well, we'll talk about that in a little bit.
We'll do that on another episode.
But we're excited because, yes,
Santa only comes once a year, but Ying comes all the time.
And that's pretty darn close, right?
We've got a recipe for shrimp vegetable stir fry coming up next.
Ooh, look at that.
It's a meal you can have on the table in just a very few minutes.
I love that because we need this in our household here.
Ying Shouler is here with maybe one of the quickest demos yet here.
A recipe for shrimp vegetable stir fry.
Love it.
I told you we made the stir fry, the fried rice actually,
I should say, with shrimp just the past week.
Mine didn't turn out.
It was mushy.
Maybe the rice was not chilled enough.
There you go.
It wasn't chilled at all.
Or maybe your shrimp, you make sure it's,
you know, pat it dry with a paper towel.
Yeah, yeah.
So it's just a couple of tips to make a huge difference.
And that's why you're here, too, for the tips, too.
And you need to get the wok or the pan
at a certain temperature, too, right?
Too hot's not good, too cool's not good.
Well, this is a cast iron wok, so I can preheat it.
But if you have, like, a coating, probably not good.
Like a Teflon or whatever?
Yeah, it's not good to preheat.
So you have to put a little bit of oil first.
Then you turn it on.
So that's it, yeah.
So you got it all ready to roll here?
Yeah, I'm ready.
There we go, you're firing it up.
Yep, so we're going to add a...
First, of course, add some oil.
I'm gonna see how long this takes, too.
What's your preferred oil?
I just use vegetable oil, but you can use any.
People, if you like the peanut oil, that's fine,
but I just use the vegetable oil
because vegetable oil actually is 100% soybean oil,
and that's what I grown up with.
Oh, okay, so that's what you're used to.
It's relatively inexpensive as well.
I see you have the shrimp ready to go.
It's not the pre-cooked.
Does it matter either way?
It doesn't matter.
But if you do stir-fry, you probably want to use the fresh.
Yeah, true.
You got the tails on in there?
Yeah.
Okay.
Just make it a little bit of...
It looks a little prettier.
No, it doesn't look like it.
Because they turn that nice, like, pinkish orange or whatever.
Yeah, so when you, you know,
change the color and also curl it up like this, it's a shrimp
that it doesn't cook very long.
You don't need to cook very long.
Yeah, it cooks very quickly.
So especially my pan's very hot,
you know, and then they cook very fast.
And you don't really have to worry about undercooking
shrimp, but overcooking shrimp's a problem.
All right?
Yeah, so to get it dry and whatever.
So, yeah, when they curled up like this,
you know, pretty much it's done, yeah.
So what I'm gonna do is, normally you can take it out
or you can leave it in, since we, you know,
I'll just take it out, so.
You can, if you only make a small bunch.
Oh, I forgot my shrimp and garlic.
I mean, garlic and ginger, talking too much.
But it's not too late.
Yeah, so we can add garlic and ginger.
Put it in with the veggies?
Yes.
Okay.
And then we're going to add our vegetables.
To get that garlic rub?
Yeah I can smell that. I love garlic. So we got mushrooms or pepper.
And keypads, yeah.
Sometimes I use some onions. So it's up to you.
You know people can use anything. They can use
broccoli. Good way to clean out the fridge.
Zucchini. Yeah whatever you like. So this one
doesn't cook very long.
That's why you know in the recipe I said you can leave the shrimp in
because it doesn't cook very long.
Otherwise the shrimp will be overcooked.
So this is pretty neat.
See, when the peapod's getting darker, deeper green,
that's done.
Otherwise, you're gonna get a mushy.
So when the shrimp curls up
and when the peapod's go dark green.
Yes.
I noticed you didn't put any more oil in either,
since whatever oil was in there the first time
wasn't done.
So now I'll put it back.
Yeah, put it back and then just add the sauce.
That's it.
That's it?
Just like that?
You're at like, not even two minutes for that.
Yeah, I always tell people,
this is faster than you go to get a takeout.
Yeah, this one. You don't need to.
It'd take longer to get it out of the fridge than it is to cook it.
And what was the sauce that you put in?
It was the stir-fried sauce.
Okay, and as always,
you get a line of amazing sauces for any occasion, too.
Available in a lot of the area stores.
They're not hard to find at all.
And you also brought us a dessert today.
I thought that was some pre-made shrimp,
and I saw you put sprinkles on it,
and I was like, what on earth are we doing?
But that's not what that is.
That's fried bananas.
Fried bananas.
It's like a dessert, a snack.
It's very good.
That's right.
Can I skip ahead?
Yeah, go ahead.
Help yourself.
Yeah.
Some people have said that, you know, they'll be good for ice cream.
Sure.
You know, with some even chocolate, you know.
There's always a little sweet treat at the end.
You always bring like a...
Want me to try some?
I'll pass on that one.
Okay.
I'm waiting for that stir fry.
Yeah.
But in all honesty, you had the stir fry sauce with this.
What would be a good substitute for the stir fry
if you wanted to give it a little different
flavor?
Would a sweet and sour or an orange even work?
All those work, but I like to use a cream barbecue,
marinade, or the Kung Pao.
If you don't mind a little kick.
Kung Pao is really good for stir-frying.
Marinade might be a little thin, but you don't add a lot.
It has a pretty strong flavor.
Look how good that looks.
There you go.
So you have the stir-fry ready.
Rice, noodles, pretty much your option, or just by itself.
First off, it might be a little salty.
Yes.
Yeah, so over rice will be good, all noodles.
Okay, either or.
Always great hanging out with you.
Now the kitchen smells good.
We have to make things look equally as good here.
Nicola's out at the Christmas Fantasy House.
Nicola, that house looks amazing.
What else can you show us today?
Thank you very much for being here today.
Yeah, hey guys, good morning. This place is amazing.
It is so ready to go for Christmas.
Every single room, every single corner is filled
with stunning decorations, and the hearth is no
exception. I'm now joined live by Amy Skaggs
with Mayhouse Collection. They're located in
Oconomowoc, and you were telling me about your business,
Amy, and about how, you know, yes,
of course you have decor like this,
but you have a lot of other things, gifts, clothes.
Tell our viewers at home what they
can expect when they come to see you.
Absolutely.
We're located in Oconomowoc,
right off of Brown Street, and it's exactly right.
We have men's and women's fashion,
along with a whole entire baby section.
Of course, decor, home accessories, jewelry,
shoes, it's a big department store.
And this has got to be great exposure for your business.
I can imagine having all these people come through
and get just a small sample of what
you sell at your store.
Absolutely. We've got some brochures here.
If you come through, there's a coupon in the back.
I noticed that. Very nice. Love a good coupon this time of year.
Absolutely. So come on and see us,
and we'd love to take care of any holiday needs.
And I'm sure you can absolutely do that.
Now, I understand you all first saw the house in May,
and so ever since then, all the designers here have
been planning for what they're going to do
for their room leading up, of course, to today.
And you guys got the hearth room. And so you're
saying the hearth here, which is beautiful,
I don't know if you guys can see, has a little
Lovely, like, black and white marble detail.
That was really your inspiration for this space.
Absolutely.
My coworker and I, Amelia, she's our store manager.
We saw the house in May and then again in July,
which obviously had progressed, had
the finishing touches with the black and white.
We named that the Gilded Hearth.
I love it.
And kind of based all of our decorations off of that,
elevated and really curated.
Kind of the whole space here on just that alone.
We were talking to you about this theme that we're seeing
in holiday decor this year about bringing the outside in.
So a lot of natural elements.
You all accomplish that beautifully in this room,
but it's also really kind of glamorous and sophisticated too.
Yeah, it's great because some
of the things you can find right outside and bring them in.
They can become sort of a winter theme as well as Christmas
and last a little bit longer into that February time.
For sure, because I know there's people like me who just get so sad
when they have to take their holiday decorations down.
With these kinds of touches, the greens, the neutral colors,
you really certainly don't have to.
So I have to ask you, this is incredible.
How long did it take you?
Once you were in the room, you kind of had your vision.
to do all of this like what was the what
was the process like absolutely um well it's a lot of
obviously packing the decorations unpacking them we kind
of tried to map it out ahead of time but
honestly it is about 10 hours times two
because two of us did it oh wow so it's about 20 hours of
Putting things together and then stepping back
and kind of retweaking and adding and...
Editing and zhuzhing.
Absolutely, zhuzhing is the word, right?
And just really making this space feel that magical.
You know, touch and you've certainly accomplished
that and also a great way to kind of showcase
your projects or your products, excuse me, what you offer.
I mean, we have this lovely little,
I don't know if you guys can see it, but like a hat
ladder, I'm going to call it.
Um, cause people obviously need warm accessories for this time of year.
You've got that all covered.
Of course, entertaining by the fireplace.
Yeah, cozy in.
Yeah, it's so thoughtful.
And then you have the entertaining stuff as well.
Like I love this cheese tray here for folks,
the glassware, all of this people can find
in your store.
Absolutely.
So come on to the store
and we can kind of direct you as far as what you saw at the Fantasy
House and things like that.
We just feel so blessed to be, again,
part of the Christmas Fantasy House
and being able to help those families
at the Ronald McDonald for such a great cause.
And I'm sure they love having you.
So, again, yes, that is Mayhouse Collection
is one of the fabulous designers
that you can find here at the Christmas Fantasy House
that is located in the Village of Summit.
They are open every day until November 8th.
Guys, this place is worth the trip, let me tell you.
It is just wonderful.
Do we have to get tickets ahead of time, or can we just go there?
What does that look like?
Oh no, Derica, you can just come right here to the house
and buy your ticket right at the door.
You can't park here, so what you do is you drive
your car to the Lake Country Dockhounds lot,
leave it there, and then they have shuttles
that are driving constantly that have drop-offs at the house.
Nicola, did you see a decoration that you're like,
I have to buy this, I have to use this in my decor?
Core.
You say a decoration. You know me too well.
Okay. I kind of want to up my entertaining game
because I'd like to have a Christmas party this year.
And so I really love this. I love the way
that this whole like banquet here is set up.
I love that. I also love this because I feel like
you can never have too many ornaments.
You know, this is, this place is dangerous. I'll say that
if you love Christmas, you love decorations, you love beautiful things.
Oh, the Christmas Fantasy House has no shortage
of those things to shop and look for.
Oh, I'm getting a lot of inspiration.
I love the color palette of it all, too, in each different room.
It's beautiful.
That's some really good stuff.
And I'll be watching my inbox for the invite for the big party.
Party over there.
Party at Nicola's house.
Oh, my gosh.
No pressure.
Just saying.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
She's like, I'm tossed away.
You're kidding!
Thanks, Nicola.
Let me say this.
Hold my breath.
I didn't realize I was still on camera.
Obviously.
Top of the invite list.
Ha, ha, ha, ha.
That's funny.
All right, thanks, Nick.
Oh, my God.
So, I will say this, being somebody that's been at the house for years,
that I felt, like, disappointed
not being able to go out there this year.
And Nicola was so very excited to go out there.
I think she's going to hunker down for a bit.
She may not see her tomorrow.
She might spend the entire day there.
Such a great cause, though, as you guys know.
Beautiful.
In 33 years.
More Fox 6 Real Milwaukee.
After the break, guys.
Thank you so much.
It's here.
I'm starting to speak now.
It's a big deal.
I know, it sure is.
It's a big deal.
Looking ahead, obviously, the We Energies cookie book.
Looking ahead to the holiday season, right?
So this year's book features 38 recipes
from home bakers across the state.
You can place your orders online for this year's edition now.
There are a couple of drive-thru distribution
events going on right now in our area.
There's one taking place
at the Racine County Fairgrounds in Union Grove until 1,
and another at the We Energies facility
on Sunset Road in Port Washington until 2.
We were just flipping through here,
and there are so many good cookies in here, and even bars, too.
Cookies and bars. Mint balls, that's a different one.
Yeah, I'm kind of like eyeing a couple of these, too.
Yeah, what's this one up here? That caught my eye
because of the mix of the flavors in there.
Cherry and walnut bars.
I was on that one.
Anything cherry flavored, I like.
And look how ornate this is.
And what I love about these is they make it easy,
because I'm not a good baker at all,
but I can follow a recipe, you know?
And most of these things you have in your cabinet,
and they just make such beautiful creations, too.
There was another one, which is the one I was eyeing.
There's a bar, is that the chocolate bar?
Oh, look how beautiful this is.
Yeah.
What are you guys eyeing? What would you make here?
I don't know. I would fail making them, but I will eat all of them.
Yeah, that's right.
Someone else is cooking. I'm all in.
But there are some that look like they are,
even if you're kind of an entry-level cook,
there are some that look like they're pretty achievable.
You may not succeed to the level of the book.
Oh, you know what? Let me show you the...
Where is it?
There's the mint ball.
Oh, there's your mint ball that you were looking at.
Potato chip?
This would have a little potato chip in it.
Yeah.
Okay.
But wait, I wanted to get to the...
Where's the one you want?
Oh, there we go.
There it is.
Look at this.
It's just your good old chocolate chip cookie.
I love it.
But I'm sure it has a story with it, you know.
