Great to be with you on a Monday morning.
I hope you had a great weekend. Congratulations.
Victory Monday. Nice win on national TV last night.
And boy, do we have a celebration coming up at 6:15.
Yeah, we do. At least it was worth it.
It's going to be raining something amazing today.
All right, Marissa, I like your colors there.
It looks like you're sporting.
I tried. She was ready.
Yeah, a little branding.
You don't get to wear those every Monday, so it's great.
All right, let's see the forecast.
We look great.
Well, we look cloudy this morning.
We'll get some sunshine this afternoon, but we look quiet.
How about that?
No rain out there early this morning.
All right, that's a 6 a.m. look.
And remember, the sun getting up
a little after 6:30 this morning, not 7:30,
as we move the clocks back.
DCA at...
This music just keeps going on and on.
It's just rolling through.
48 at DCA, 43 at Dulles.
Quick look, there's some clouds out there,
and there are showers south and west.
We won't get the rain today,
and we should see some afternoon clearing
after some morning clouds.
I'll have more in just a minute,
but temps in the 60s this afternoon.
It isn't like the music to distract from his weather forecast.
We'll take a look here on Monday Morning Community.
Overview-wise, for the most part, looking good.
You will see a couple of red zones.
We'll focus in on one of them.
It's a crash after the 3rd Street Tunnel.
If you are traveling outbound Southeast-Southwest Freeway,
traffic getting by in the right lane only,
you're going to see about nine minutes building
in delays there from the 14th Street Bridge.
Back to you.
Developing story here at 7,
police investigating a deadly stabbing in Wheaton.
Officials responded to that scene overnight, happened on Elkin Street.
That's where Maureen Umay is this morning with what we know so far.
Morning, Mo.
Good morning. So yeah, a scene is still very active.
In fact, we've seen more police officers arriving here in Texas,
I'm assuming, to continue their investigation to what happened here
at the 11300 block of Elkin Street. We have learned since
our last report that the stabbing happened in front of Maria's Cafe.
That is the restaurant, the Blue Awning, that you see there
in front of the, it looks like a gray Dodge police cruiser.
We understand that the man or the person who was stabbed,
that they died or were stabbed in front of the restaurant.
We don't know if anything happened inside and then spilled outside.
Just not a lot of information from police at this point.
We're learning a lot of what we have now from their social media posts,
which haven't really been very much.
But they were dispatched to this area around 12:04
for a report of a stabbing.
The victim's injuries initially were unknown,
and then the police later confirmed that he died.
They're now trying to figure out what led to the stabbing.
They haven't released any suspect information
or said if there might be a wider danger to the community.
It probably is not a danger because if that were the case,
they probably would have put that in one of their posts.
They normally do from just my experience covering
these types of things with a little information.
But you can see police again here on the scene continuing
their investigation into what happened here.
It looks to be a block with many restaurants, a side street.
So the cordon off area is not affecting traffic here
in the Wheaton area on the busy roads.
This is off to a side street,
so it doesn't seem to be doing much in terms of information.
Thank
you.
At this hour, as we speak, so the investigation continuing in earnest.
If we learn more and when we do learn more,
we'll be sure to pass it along to you.
But again, just not a lot to go on.
One person dead, police looking for a suspect.
More as we get it here from the scene.
In the meantime, I'll send it back to you guys in the studio.
In the meantime, an investigation underway after
a juvenile boy was shot in Navy Yard.
Police say this happened about 1040
Saturday night, First Street Southeast.
Officials have not released the age
of the victim who did go to the hospital.
No word on any suspects or motive at this time.
In Loudoun County, a man considered armed
and dangerous has been found, but it's still unclear
whether he's been arrested or taken into custody.
The Sheriff's Office confirming
deputies found 30-year-old Christian DeJesus Santiago
and questioned him. This comes after
deputies responded to Conejo Way
and North Star Boulevard in Aldi for reports of a domestic
incident. This all happening Sunday.
No other information has been given. The Loudoun County
Sheriff's Office is expected to provide more information later today.
Today, co-host Savannah Guthrie issuing another plea
for information about her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie.
Savannah posted to Facebook
to mark nine months now since Nancy disappeared.
She wrote the family, quote,
aches for her and cannot move forward without closure.
Investigators believe the 84-year-old
was taken from her home in Tucson.
A $1 million reward is being offered in that case.
All right, 6:04, we'll get to talk
a little bit early, but for good reason.
Take a look at the gorgeous sunrise.
And with our clock change over the weekend,
now we get to enjoy a few peaks of sun in the 6 o'clock hour.
Plus, the early morning people are the ones
that benefit from this early start.
I think so. I do agree. We feel it more.
Yeah, for sure.
Now, of course, the trade is the sun is,
I think, setting at 506 tonight.
So just remember, correspondingly,
coming home from work and school, we've got an earlier sunset.
Okay, let's hop in and dry start to the week.
I'm going to show you some showers that are nearby,
and they're bringing some clouds on the...
Radar here in just a moment, but it should be another dry day for us.
In fact, it looks like our rain chances don't really
go up until maybe Thursday, Friday this week,
so we're going to be well over two weeks without any rain around here.
Okay, morning look in Frederick, and it looks great.
You can see the sky starting to brighten up there just a little bit.
6 a.m. numbers in the cool department for sure.
40 at BWI Marshall.
43 Dulles and at Reagan National this morning were 48 degrees.
So we look good.
Some clouds across the region to start your morning.
I think the trend will be the system is going to kind
of fade off to our south and east later today.
The trend will be to go from generally cloudy
to partly sunny this afternoon.
We'll keep it cool.
Daytime highs will be in the 60s, but it should be,
again, a dry afternoon and a dry couple days here.
It looks like things don't really start
to break down until about Thursday for our next rain chances.
We'll focus on that coming up.
Morning clouds.
I talked about some afternoon sunshine.
Tends about where they should be in the mid-60s later this afternoon.
Don't forget about the Fox Local app as you run out the door.
And it should be really easy to download.
It's absolutely free.
And then you can watch our show right there on your phone.
So, you know, when you're sitting on Metro, you can watch the show.
When you're waiting patiently at the DMV, you can watch our show.
You know, it's just great access to watch our show anywhere you want.
I actually had a really great experience
with you and me the last time I went.
It was like 30 minutes and I was out.
Tell me everything.
But first, I've got to say hi to Sharonda.
Okay, we've got the fan club and we've got a proud grandma here.
Sharonda, thanks for checking in in Waldorf.
Proud grandma, congratulations to our QB, our assistant coach,
and the 49ers on their division championship.
Shout-out.
Whoa, we already heard from you.
Shout-out to our Washington Commanders on yesterday's win.
And it looks like we got Jazlyn Rich, the assistant coach.
No, that's Jamal Rich, and our QB is Jazlyn Rich.
All right, Rich family, you guys look amazing.
And we got Stacey.
Happy eight-month-old baby, Sayer.
There you go in Washington, D.C.
Love it.
Send us your picture.
Scan me in the upper right-hand corner.
Yeah, we love it.
Thank you guys for sending them in.
We love it.
Take a look here, 606, at your traffic southwest.
This is outbound southeast southwest freeway,
if that's where you're traveling this morning.
Crash after the 3rd Street Tunnel.
That is traffic getting by in the right lane only.
So you'll be slow for about 13 or so minutes is what you're looking at.
That's from the 14th Street Bridge, so you'll see those delays.
There is a speech going on in the D.C. area.
We'll
Afternoon kind of evening, you're going to see it,
the closures for the morning,
6 a.m. to 4 p.m. is what we're looking at there for your closures.
be
You're going to see emergency no parking in the area as well.
It's going to affect things like Constitution Avenue, 23rd Street.
right
We're looking at Rock Creek Parkway, Virginia Avenue.
The entire list is on fox5dc.com.
But again, keep in mind you're going to see
a lot of closures through the area today.
back.
Finally, there's a look at 395 traveling northbound.
Pretty good there as you're heading towards
14th Street Bridge from the Beltway.
It's about 14 minutes.
Marissa?
Annie Mae, thank you.
Happening today, President Trump is set to return to the reflecting
pool to make his closing arguments ahead of the midterms.
That's what Annie Mae was just referencing.
He's been on the campaign trail trying to get out the vote for
Republicans and defend his renovation projects at a number of rallies.
And he's going to be doing that in person today.
Mel's down by the reflecting pool this morning, Mel.
Hey, good morning, guys.
Yeah, so we had to do a little driving shot here because everything was
getting shut down at six in the morning.
And truthfully, we wanted to stop at a light here,
but we wanted to try to show you that everything is fenced off,
literally no pedestrian access and
only a few vehicular access points, literally from 23rd Street at the
The Lincoln Memorial all the way to the World War II Memorial here at,
what is it, 17th Street
here. So completely surrounded by this fencing that you're seeing,
and that is some of the
issues that you're going to be experiencing.
President Trump, the reason he wanted to come
to the reflecting pool today,
he told reporters he wanted to show people how beautiful the pool
is now. Now, it has been refilled,
but it's still not completely accessible to the public.
Now, the National Park Service says the pool will remain fenced off.
What we're seeing is more like that bicycle fencing or roping.
That's going to continue until November 21st,
the Park Service says, including walkways and grass medians.
The sealant contractor completed warranty repairs
to the original peeling liner on October 2nd.
It is still President Trump's chosen color of American flag blue.
Renovation work began in the spring.
It was May 7th when President Trump
and his motorcade celebrated the project by driving over the pool.
...newly painted surface.
After the pool was filled, the liner began separating,
and once oxygenating water bubblers were removed,
the warm weather caused
huge algae blooms. The administration tried to blame vandals,
but there was no evidence of that.
The no-bid $1.5 million project cost eventually ballooned
to 10 times as much,
according to the Associated Press.
The pool and water were cleaned and drained as
contractors worked to find a more permanent solution.
And back out live here now,
Another look at just those fencing,
that fencing that is surrounding all of the area here.
So really just inaccessible, whether by foot or by car.
Just be aware of that this morning.
The president's speech at two this afternoon.
Road closures begin at 6 a.m. in those areas,
as we mentioned, right around the Lincoln Memorial.
Those are in effect right now.
And then they are going to extend out.
Further, the perimeter is going
to be pushed even further out starting at one this afternoon
until at least four.
Police are asking drivers to find alternate routes.
And as you can see here,
a lot of people a little surprised by these closures.
And so do expect that you're going
to have some delays as well.
We'll send it back to you in the studio.
Right, definitely gotta plan ahead.
Thanks, Melanie.
Still to come, nine people tragically lose
their lives after a private jet crashes in Florida.
We'll tell you the latest on that investigation.
Also, a little bit later, a new monument honoring Black
Revolutionary War soldiers right here in the DMV.
We'll talk about that coming up.
