Breaking news in West Philadelphia tonight at a SEPTA train station.
Three people, including a 14-year-old boy,
are in the hospital after a shooting
on the Market Frankfurt Line platform at 56 and Market Streets.
This is the 10 o'clock news. I'm Jeff Skowerski.
Let's get to the very latest tonight on this breaking news.
Our Brittany Weir is live at Philadelphia Police Headquarters tonight.
Brittany, what can you tell us?
Yes, Jeff. Well, we know, like you said,
those three people were shot, including a 14-year-old boy.
This all happened at the SEPTA station at 56th and Market.
Now we know two of those people are in the hospital.
Inspector D.F. Pace says officers rushed
to the scene after getting reports of someone with a gun.
There they found two men ages 25 and 26 and a 14 year old boy all shot.
The teenage victim was hit four times, twice in the arm
and twice in the leg. He's now in stable condition at CHOP.
The two older victims were taken to Penn Presbyterian.
Both are in critical condition, and investigators say they have video
of the person who pulled the trigger.
We do have good video surveillance of the shooter.
He was wearing a black balaclava over his head,
a royal blue top jacket, black pants, and black shoes,
as well as carrying a bright red backpack.
When he...
Stopped shooting after he shot at the individuals.
He ran westbound on Market Street out of view of the cameras.
And police also said that they did find a backpack
and a gun inside of a trash can near
that scene. And we know the gun did have an extended magazine.
Now, police are working
to figure out whether
or not that gun that they found is related to that shooting. Now,
this is just the most recent violent incident
that has come after a troubling weekend here
in Philadelphia. We know a string of shootings
and stabbings have left three people dead and
And multiple others injured, inspectors.
Police say this is just unsettling to have to report,
but they are asking anyone with information
on these shootings to please give them a call.
Live outside police headquarters, Brittany Weir, Fox 29 News.
Thank you, Brittany.
Developing tonight, new surveillance video capturing the chaos
as six people were shot near the University of Delaware on Halloween.
All classes are canceled tomorrow.
Police say they have made an arrest. A 16-year-old who was
also a victim in the shooting.
He was found with a loaded gun that was recovered by police. The
other victims range from 15 to 21,
and that includes a 20-year-old University of Delaware
student. Let's go out to Kelly Rule.
Kelly, you spoke to a witness. What are they saying
Tonight about this horrifying situation.
Well, Jeff, witnesses tell me they have never seen a main street
so crowded and that it was absolute chaos out here.
And that was despite a heavy police
presence trying to keep things moving.
They say things got out of control very quickly.
Terrifying surveillance video provided to Fox 29 captured the sound
of gunshots near the University of Delaware's campus Saturday night,
followed by crowds of people running.
He's just sitting there, just his shirt pulled up.
And all I see is just a hole right here, right towards the liver area.
Newark police say six people
were shot just before 11-15 Halloween night
on the south sidewalk of East Main Street across from Choate Street.
Landon Singleton says he did all he could to help one of the victims.
Did not think at all.
Just took off my shirt, folded it up a few times,
maybe two or three times,
pressed it on the wound, you know, keep pressure.
And then he squeezed my hand.
Very, very hard. Like I was like his last hope.
Police say the shooting happened during a large gathering in the area.
One victim, a 20 year old, is a University of Delaware student.
Investigators say he was shot in the back
and suffered a collapsed lung.
The other victims hospitalized range from just 15 to 21 years old.
Police say a 16 year old victim found
with a loaded firearm is facing weapons charges,
but it's unclear if he fired his gun during the shooting.
It was like too crowded that we didn't even have space to walk.
Vishwa Pappan says he celebrated Halloween on Main Street for the past
two years and never saw the crowds he did Saturday night.
He took this video moments before
the shooting capturing the pandemonium.
There were like so many young kids yesterday,
I mean like so many young kids,
I think it's...
and I've seen people smoking, doing drugs in the car,
and there were so many cops who
were trying to, you know, settle down things, but it was not happening.
It was like too chaotic.
There was just like TikToks posted of like big like meetups happening.
Yeah, like where are we going to go
on Halloween, like Main Street, Newark.
Students still shaken up tell Fox 29 they
are grateful they will have the day off Monday.
The university said they are canceling all classes in person
and virtual and no exams
or assignments will be due to give everyone time to rest
and process. Those that jumped
in to help say they pray everyone recovers
and they will never forget their faces.
He started closing his eyes so I grabbed his head I
picked up just a tad because you need
to stay awake you need to stay awake.
Now the university says despite the cancellation of classes,
campus will remain open tomorrow and
they will have a walk-in counseling available
from 9 until 4 in Warner Hall. Newark police are asking
anybody that has pictures or videos of the shooting to send them in.
Jeff. All right, Kelly
Rule reporting from Delaware tonight on this situation.
Obviously very, very difficult to watch
that surveillance video,
but again there is not a threat to the community. Kelly, thank you.
Also developing a tragedy in South Florida.
A plane carrying nine people nosedives
into a Palm Beach County neighborhood this afternoon.
The business jet plummets to the ground
and explodes in a giant fireball.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirming
tonight all nine on board have died.
There is dash cam video from a passenger car passing by.
We must warn you, it is tough to watch.
This video here shows the plane nosediving
at a high rate of speed into an intersection.
We froze that video to not show the exact moment of impact,
but we can show you the ensuing fireball.
Federal officials say the Learjet was en route from Texas
to the Bahamas when it went down just before 1 o'clock.
Officials have not identified the victims at this time.
It's also unknown if anyone on the ground was injured.
The FAA and NTSB are on the scene investigating the cause of the crash.
U.S. Senator Chris Murphy
is in the hospital tonight after suffering a stroke.
The 56-year-old Connecticut Democrat is awake
and alert, according to officials.
This comes after the senator began experiencing numbness in his arm
while attending his son's hockey game yesterday.
Murphy is currently at Johns Hopkins.
Let's turn your attention to the forecast now.
A live look from the parkway.
Temperatures dipping into the 40s tonight,
but things will heat up this week.
One last taste, perhaps, of spring and summer, Kathy.
Let's get the latest from a well-rested Kathy.
Or getting an extra hour must be nice for some.
Not for all of us with young children.
They're waking us up.
They don't care about the extra hour.
No, they don't.
The teenagers keep you up, so we both lose.
Okay.
Temperatures in Philadelphia right now, 51 degrees, mainly clear skies.
And you're right, Jeff, it is cooling down quickly.
43 in Allentown, 47 in Reading, and 45 in Exton.
A frost advisory in effect for parts of lower Bucks
and Montgomery counties,
even the lower part of Chester County into South Jersey
with temperatures as low as 35 degrees.
Not the end of the growing season.
We'll
be
right
back.
So coming up, we'll talk about more sunny skies,
November warmth peaking by midweek, and rain after an 18-day dry spell.
Yeah, finally. We'll talk more about that with The 7 Day, Jeff.
All right, we'll have those umbrellas ready. Thank you, Kathy.
Elsewhere tonight, a tragic update to a story of a young girl that was
struck by a car on Friday while riding her scooter in South Jersey.
She died this morning.
A post from the...
Bordentown Township Facebook page confirming
the victim was a 13-year-old student at Bordentown
Regional Middle School in Burlington County.
The girl, yet to be publicly identified,
was struck by the car Friday evening along Route 130
in Burlington Road. Officials say
she was airlifted to the hospital,
where she later died from her injuries.
We're just two days out from the midterm elections
and another busy campaign trail
as it's almost time for you to decide.
Both Republicans and Democrats fighting for every
last vote tonight. Fox's Madison Scarpino shows us what's
at stake in the tightest races
around the country.
President Donald Trump in Iowa Sunday,
closing out the final days of the midterm elections
on the road, trying to boost Republican voter turnout.
His visit comes as polls show Democrats
tied with or leading Republicans in many key Iowa races.
I think it's good for him to come.
And see what his policies have done to a state like Iowa. I mean,
we're uniquely hurting. Also on the campaign trail,
Michigan Democrat Abdul Al Sayed,
who is locked in a tight race with former GOP Congressman
Mike Rogers. But instead of the race,
Al Sayed was forced to comment on party politics
after his former opponent, Haley Stevens,
stunned Democrats by publicly endorsing Rogers.
At the end of the day, I actually don't think about Haley Stevens.
You know what I'm saying?
I think about the, like I said, the 9,999,998 people who are not
those two. Because you know what?
I'm just less interested in the politics of it all than I am
in the policy of it all. Stephen's endorsement came after she
was uninvited to an event with
El-Sayed. When asked why,
Stephen says her decision ultimately came down to putting country
over party. My vote for Senate is gonna be with Mike Rogers,
and I will tell you why.
Because we have to stand with country. We can't stand with hate.
President Trump had this to say about the drama.
I think she was very brave doing it.
And she did it for the people of Michigan.
And I have great respect. I don't know her. I've never met her. But
I have great respect for her, I will tell you.
Up next for the president, a stop in Salina, Kansas.
In Atlanta, Madison Scarpino, Fox News.
In Pennsylvania, Governor Josh Shapiro spent time
in Philadelphia today as he seeks re-election.
The Democratic incumbent is facing Republican challenger
and state treasurer Stacey Garrity.
Governor Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor
Austin Davis today capping off their 10-day,
29-county campaign bus tour in Philadelphia.
It's his final push to rally Pennsylvanians
for a second term in Harrisburg.
While Shapiro campaigns locally,
Garrity hanging out with Steelers fans
in Pittsburgh this morning.
While fans are tailgating,
she spoke with voters
before the Steelers beat the Browns.
Stay tuned to Fox 29,
your home of the midterm elections
this Tuesday from the moment
the polls open until the results are announced.
We'll have comprehensive coverage
on air and online,
as well as streaming on the Fox local app.
