Last minute Philadelphia Eagles updates and rumors ahead
of an all-important week 8 Sunday night football matchup
at the division rival Washington Commanders as the Eagles look
to salvage their season or what's potentially left of it.
I'm your host Colin Kelly. Welcome to Eagles Digest. It's game day.
The Philadelphia Eagles look to avoid a sixth straight loss.
A season-defining game. Why? The Eagles have to.
They have to win this game.
If they have any chance at making the playoffs, guys,
we're going to jump into that and more before we do.

We got some relatively big news on the trade rumor front,
as the Eagles are currently well outside the playoff race.
The Eagles via rap sheet via Mike Garofalo,
Go in several directions at the trade deadline,
but one thing's clear, Saquon Barkley won't
be part of those trade deadline plans.
Saquon, we saw him finally return
to action last Monday Night Football versus the Dallas
Cowboys, only about 10 snaps, but he was so impactful from the jump.
Saquon, the more I think about it,
he makes too much sense or means too much to this Eagles
competitive viability, not this season, but beyond, quite frankly.
As one of, if not the leaders of this team now,
especially with all the turnover from
Lane Johnson, from Jalen Hurts,
who's not there anymore right now, Saquon Barkley, I
think trading him while Howie Roseman understands
he could recoup significant value, modern
NFL teams, you need an absolute weapon out of the backfield.
But Saquon Barkley, trading him, I think this is,
in a way, Howie Roseman looking well beyond
this year.
If things continue to slide,
with no end really in sight, with this current losing
streak, say the Eagles make a coaching change,
I think Saquon would be a huge selling point
for any potential head coach,
should the Eagles move in that direction this offseason.
As far as trading Saquon, what that would mean,
not just for this season, but of course
in the immediate, what message would
that send to a guy like DeVonta Smith?
What message would it send to a guy like Jordan Mailata?
So, Saquon, he means way too much to the team,
and I understand, for the competitive future,
not just this season,
why the Eagles are simply not looking to move Saquon.
If they were to turn things around, say,
in 2027, how could you expect to without Saquon?
You know you'd be in the market to be a true contender
for a running back like Saquon
next 2027 trade deadline.
So, it just makes way too much sense,
all the sense in the world, to hold on to Saquon Barkley.
You look at the Eagles injury report heading into this matchup tonight.
First, the Washington Commanders, the long and short of it,
you do not have Jihad Campbell, Britton Covey, Jonathan Jones,
Savante Smith, nor Dontavion Wicks.
Again, the Eagles are especially decimated at wide receiver,
but also with Saquon dealing with the hamstring and the back,
being limited participant only on Friday.
Look, he's trying to get his body in the best possible position.
He wants to put himself in the best position to play snaps,
albeit even if it's limited.
Saquon Barkley
We know what he can do.
We saw what he could do in very limited snaps against
a team like the Cowboys.
So the Eagles cannot rationally expect Saquon
to play a majority of this game.
They responded in a Saturday move where they elevated Elijah Mitchell
for today's game,
as well as linebacker Mason Reiger.
Elijah Mitchell.
He's effectively the RB2.
We saw very limited action against the Cowboys.
It looks like Jaden Blue is going to be a very more limited,
specific option,
maybe on passing, third downs.
Elijah Mitchell, though, is going
to be that more consistent complement to Saquon for this matchup.
You look at Tanner McKee.
This is going to be a big test for him on this season.
He's by far the way had his most success short
and to the right as far as targeting.
Middle of the field.
Some success as well,
but I think this Eagles offense has turned a bit of a page, quite
honestly.
You look at how they have performed against the Cowboys,
albeit against a terrible defense.
The sustaining drives.
I think this Eagles offense can give this team a chance.
Tanner McKee more comfortable.
Makai Lemon having broken out, even without a Smith, a Wicks.
Makai Lemon, I think, is extremely, extremely confident and ready.
To perform, to contribute, we just saw it.
I think he continues a hot streak of form heading
into this Sunday Night Football matchup, guys.
You look at how this matchup lines up, courtesy of Kalshi.
Thank you for sponsoring today's video.
The market for this matchup, the Eagles are significantly,
significantly underdogs, 70%.
In terms of Washington,
where it's just 30% for your Philadelphia Eagles,
the beauty of Kalshi is you're trading directly against other users,
not the house, like traditional sportsbooks.
You're buying yes or no contracts
on the outcome of events related to politics,
even weather markets, but of course,
sports like your Philadelphia Eagles.
And I think about how this game's going to go.
I look at, specifically this offense,
the Eagles more than 18 plus points,
more than 17.5, to be clear.
This Eagles offensive thing has turned a page.
At a $25 yes trade, at a 47% chance to pay $53.48
if the Eagles go 18 plus points this
matchup, which I think they do.

A massive opportunity for this Eagles offense, especially without
Having to deal with star defensive lineman for the commanders,
Deron Payne, who suffered
a season-ending injury to his foot in Friday's practice.
That is a huge boost to this Eagles offense,
to this overall, any hope of ending this losing
streak.
This is one of the more stout defensive options,
certainly on the Commanders, but as far as
especially stopping the run across the league,
Deron Payne, he was going to be one of the,
If not the trade piece.
The piece to sell for the Commanders, Eagles, it's like he got traded.
The bottom line is they don't have to face him, which is huge.
But you look at, the key is try to stop Jayden Daniels for this game.
You look at what he's done relatively well this season,
he's yet to throw an interception.
Yes, he's been a little bit banged up,
but he's taking care of the football.
You got David Blough as OC talking about,
that's a superpower of his, how he takes care of
this football, this Eagles team.
Already challenged as far as being able to turn the ball over.
Dane Daniels, look, we saw week one.
It can look really bad for the majority of that game.
And then the Commanders, Jayden Daniels,
they don't need a lot of room to make it really
interesting.
The Eagles defense, in conjunction with the offense,
the new look relative to week one,
you've got to be playing it at a high level, especially on the road.
Look at Jayden Daniels, his form against the Eagles relative,
more yards, some more touchdowns
On average.
He's going to be motivated.
This Commanders, it's their season.
As much as it is for the Philadelphia Eagles,
the Commanders are currently just 1-4-1.
Their season is truly on the line.
Jayden Daniels, where's he throwing the ball?
You look at, not too dissimilar to Tanner McKee.
Short right, just short altogether.
In the middle of the field, not as much.
This Eagles defense is going to have to stop.
Receivers coming out of the slot.
Stephon Diggs. He's the guy.
He's the wide receiver one, the alpha receiver.
We know he gave Quinyon Mitchell some issues from the first possession
that week one matchup. You look at Terry McLaurin being out.
Okay, he was not a factor week one, quite honestly.
You look at, how about Chig Okonkwo?
He's really, I think, a relative key to stopping.
In the context of this matchup,
he's last several games on a bit of a 60-yard streak.
This Eagles defense, a Zach Bond, some safety help.
You're going to really need to take away a security blanket,
a security option for Jaden Daniels
as a relative key to this game, guys.
I want to hear from you.
What are your expectations for tonight's matchup?
Do you expect the Eagles to win?
Simple yes or no.
I'm going to say a 24.
21 loss for your Philadelphia Eagles.
They just don't find enough plays,
but some things to build on,
an ultimate indictment on this season,
two and six, confirming it's time to sell.
No Saquon, but you look at Will Shipley,
you look at a Rick Wallen.
Guys, please, please help us.
Eagles, we'd love to see you win.
We're talking to you, the players.
If anyone's in the locker room listening to this,
we need something to be happy about.
Go Birds.
